I HATE it when people park in front of my garage and block me!!!

I live in an apartment complex where one can pay extra for a garage, not a car port, but a full blown garage with an automatic garage door opener.

I love having this garage, but sometimes people come along and park their car in front of my garage door and block me from being able to leave or return to my garage.

Some asshole in an SUV did it again tonight and prevented me from being able to park my car in my garage. I'm so sick of just leaving ugly notes, so this time my note simply said: "Come and get me when you are ready to move from my driveway - [My apartment number]" and parked my car behind the SUV.

I came back inside to watch some TV and wait for the asshole to come knocking... but nothing. After awhile I went outside to peek and it was still there... then later I went and looked again, and it was gone... along with LOTS of tight-turn tire marks all over my driveway. Whoever it was went through hell to move their big SUV, with a small turning radius, out of my driveway without having to come talk to me.

    Damn... that felt good.

Only a coward would park in my driveway but not be willing to confront me face-to-face about it.

As my late, great brother Cory used to say: "AllRit!" Think he'll do that again?

Yeah I have seen this before.

A few years ago I owned a business that required a truck/van, the same truck you see Snap On tool sales men use when calling on mechanics.

I have a large door on my warehouse and a large sign with NO PARKING, violators will be towed.

I am driving up to it and this lady pulls in front of me and blocks my door and gets out.

I call to her from my truck and ask her to move and point out the sign.

SHE REFUSES!! I tell her the car will be towed and she starts telling me that she will never buy from me.

I tell her she never will because I won't sell to her. I sell only on the wholesale level.

So I park behind her car like you did only closer, no way out.

Go into my office and refuse to answer the banging on the door and leave the building.

About 30 minutes I get a call from the police. They beg me to back up my truck. This dork was driving them nuts. Private property no law broken by me and police have no jurisdiction regarding this type of thing on private property.

I wait another 30 minutes and saunter in and slowly back up and wave good bye to her. She is almost foaming at the mouth.

I loved every minute of it.

    Hey there,

I am not advocating committeing misdemeanor vehicular vandalism or more serious crimes BUT: (hypothetically)

    you might try the following:

    1. a. First time offender/one-time offender Gets a Pre-Printed Nasty Note from you (keep them in your car so they are handy.)

    b. You might also put a big note that says somethng like: I AM SOOO VERY SORRY YOU WERE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND I BACKED RIGHT INTO YOU - SORRY ABOUT THE DAMAGE PLEASE CONTACT ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN EXCHANGE INSURANCE INFORMATION (leave the note unsigned with no telephone number)

    2. First-time Repeat Offender gets AIR LET OUT OF 1 TIRE (I find a key in the valve stem is very easy to just let the air out pretty quickly. Obviously do this unobserved!)

(His/her inconvenience is equal to yours. If they are changing their own tire or waitng on AAA you might go for a drive at that time and so indicate how he/she is parked in the way.)

    3. Second time Repeat offender gets AIR LET OUT OF 2 TIRES

    4. Third-time Repeat gets AIR LET OUT OF ALL TIRES

    5. Fourth Time Repeat gets TOWED (you should make friends with a tow truck driver)

    6. Fifth time gets TIRES PUNCTURED.

    7. Sixth time gets SUGAR IN THE GAS TANK

and so on and so on..

again use the above with caution. It may be best to let sleeping dogs lie. A little inconvenience to you is not worth risking serious harm. Remember they do know where you live.

I can call the apartment manager's office and they will have the vehicle towed. I like to save that as a last resort because getting one's vehicle is a major pain in the ass and is expensive. I save that for repeat offenders... the first-timer's just get hassled by me.

What can I say, I'm a nice guy.

    Outoftheorg,

LMAO!!! That is too good! Gawd Bless America... I love the concept of Private Property!!!

You beat me to it! That`s what I was going to ask. Elsewhere, can you call the cops? Here, they would at least have it ticketed, if not towed.

    Edit: Oops, simulpost!

You could also leave a note on the windshield:

    Dear @$$hole:

I have a rental agreement with the landlord and pay $X per month for the privilege of using this parking space and garage. Since you're keeping me from using my pre-paid parking area, I have no other recourse but to charge people a sublet fee of $20/hour for the use of my parking space. The police have also been informed about your vehicle being parked here and they now have your licence plate number on file and you will be ticketed for each future infraction.

Please remit your parking fees before leaving the property.

Alternatively, you could put a handicapped parking sign on the spot with a "$300 fine" warning. Just keep it inside your garage when you aren't using it.

By the way, do they ever park there when you're parked in the garage and keep you from leaving when you want to leave? You could argue unlawful confinement on that one.

    Love, Scully

LMAO... I just had to post on that again!!!

Dude, if you are ever in the area, I'm buying you a beer!

Please remit your parking fees before leaving the property.

    LMAO! That's awsome!

Oh, and YES they DO park there when I'm in my garage and prevent me from leaving. If I'm in a hurry and need to be somewhere, I start knocking on all of the doors in the area until I find the asshole. (I've developed a bit of a reputation for it, so I'm amazed people are not warning their friends not to park there.)

by the way, the placing of your car behind them you have to be careful about 1) if the person is an idiot/road rage type they may just back or drive into your car, smash it up to get out of the spot and drive off. (so if you are going to do it I recommend writing down their license plate number, vehicle description and take a photo if you can.)

and 2) be extremely careful about the circumstance make sure that where you park you do have the legal right to park there and make sure that you do not in some way block them in a spot where they have the right to be. OTHERWISE, you could wind up in a position where you are guilty of FALSE IMPRISONMENT

In the post above where the lady deliberately parked her car in front of the guy's place, since she had the INTENT to block him in, she was actually guilty of the tort of False Imprisonment (which applies to both PERSON and VEHICLE THAT A PERSON IS IN). If the guy could have proven some damages or loss of business he could have sued her for these.
