i have a friend whos a jw and last october we started to hang out together (just us two).

I wasn't here when you first posted your situation but sure am glad that things have played out nicely for you.
I hope that part of your current life includes some college. As one who was deprived by parents and religion when I was in my teens and twenties, I now know the importance of continuing secular education. And it's tough to keep it up when you're in your 40's.
Thanks for the update. Always nice to hear from someone who's getting on well. Sounds like you are...!

i don't think i can successfully put a clamp on my mouth if i don't take a break from this place.
i want my wife to wake up, but i think i can't do what that would take if i keep myself up-to-date on all the worst going on currently in dub-land.. i love you all and i will be back, i just have to take a breather.. auldsoul
Enjoy the break.
You know where to find us when you need us...

i've been lurking for months, reading your posts nearly every day.
i finally decided to come out of hiding because i need help.
i post on another board that has nothing whatsoever to do with religion and i saw this post-.
Hi Happy -
Welcome to the Board. This was an 'entertaining' post.
I know you've already responded to the JW-to-be, but couple things come to mind.
As someone who was 'raised in the truth' isolated from all those filthy worldly people, I really resented my parents and other adult converts who would tell stories of wonderful holidays and fun times with family at birthdays and such. And the fun and excitement of dating. These are 'normal' things that they obviously found contributed to a relatively happy childhood. Witness kids get none of that.
But we survive.
I don't know if I got that she understands that she will be expected to shun her children if they choose not to become JWs or, worse, get baptized and THEN decide to not be JWs. I'm not sure that she is that aware of how her words have been prepared for her and how this will most likely become a reality ten years (or whatever) from now. Might make sense to ask: 'what if... your children do not accept the 'truth'. Will you be willing to disown and shun them?'
Does she really think that it is impossible to have a moral compass without JWs? I know of so many moral people - and incredibly moral, fun-loving, honest teenagers. People have lived principled lives for centuries without the witness factor.
My guess is that she may have a wild past and doesn't know how to raise her kids in a way to avoid that craziness (and heartache??) so she will pass that responsibility on to the wise and loving local elders. (*gag me*) It's easier that way. Actually, the more I think about this aspect, the rest of her comments seem to make sense to me too.... hmmm
Enjoyed the thread and look forward to more posts from your little corner.
btw - You have a pm (personal message) If you haven't already figured it out, find your name at the upper left corner of this page. Below your name you will see the link to your 'Inbox'. Click the link to find your message(s).
Thanks again.

JV - Didn't mean to send you running off to your dictionary... My questions were such that, in my opinion, if you thought about them, you would have the answer yourself. (Think of my post as a riddle.)
And yes I have seen it or else i wouldn't have asked the question in the first place.
OK. Then you noticed that WLG's avatar is boldly displaying a middle finger.
Defd, as a god-fearing man, is put-off by profanity - he says so again in the opening post of this thread.
As to whom and/or what the middle-finger is directed, probably best to ask Wanderlustguy. I remember him making comment but cannot find it for a direct quote right now so prefer to not water-down his words.

Edited to add:
The Collins Consise Dictionary defines a question as a form of words addressed to a person in order to elicit information or evoke a response. (emphasis added)
You got a response. I don't understand the reason for quoting a dictionary, but - well - now you've got two responses. -Aude.

Just a quick question, why doesn't defed like wanderlustguy's avatar?
Is that a serious question?
Have you seen WLG's avatar? Do you know what it means and who it's directed at??
Do you know much about defd?
-Aude.
Edited to add: btw - I LOVE this idea. I can't wait to see what you choose for each other!
they are having an up coming show on religions and have asked for questions to be sent regarding these faiths; mormons, scientology, kabbalah, opus dei?
i know jw's wasn't and isn't listed but and this is a big but, if they got enough emails regarding jw's maybe they would include it in the discussion as well.
it could be a great chance to get national coverage and ask some potential embarassing questions about the jw's.. here is a link:.
From the list of "approved" cults, I'd say they consider the JW's an anachronism. Not kooky enough to tittilate the viewers.
Or perhaps kooky enough to deserve their own show... ? -Aude.
