There was the story that the Awake magazine was going to be published only once a month and was supposed to be announced in the KM. Don't know if that was it or not... there was another thread about it.

I'm not at all blaming the WTS for my mom's poor decisions. Not at all, I just believe that the elders who are supposed to "shepard" should have maybe given her some advice based on the fact she's been in this area for 22 years and they know her.
She isn't bitter, but I think people like her tend to believe in Jehovah and pray and then when it doesn't work out feel like they need to work harder instead of looking at it realistically and rationally... and of course "count the cost"
Which reminds me I think I am going to take 3 months off and go to Hawaii. (LOL)

'This Generation'
by fairchild inyes, again... after reading numerous posts on this site and doing some research on my own, i have a strong feeling that my whole belief will soon stand or fall with the understanding of 'this generation'.. matthew 24:3 .."tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?".
matthew 24:7 for nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.. matthew 24:34 truly i say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.. .
generation:noun: group of genetically related organisms constituting a single step in the line of descent noun: the normal time between successive generations example: "they had to wait a generation for that prejudice to fade".

Let me pose this question... how come more people don't expect some other guy from 2,000 years ago to rise and become King? Just because Jesus said he was the son of God and was going to become King doesn't make it true. You have to actually believe in what he says to think it holds water.
Personally I am waiting on some guy named Tom that died several thousand years ago to come back and be my Savior.

Warm Shock On A Cold Day
by Sunspot infor those of you that know my background, you know that my only sibling, a sister (nonjw) disowned me back in the '70s along with my parents when i became a jw.
when i daed myself in '99, i wrote them and apologized for making a terrible mistake, etc and heard nothing.
i just got an email from my sister asking for my address because she wants to write to me, and she signed it "love, your little sis"..

My mother is 61 yoa and has always lived on the brink of poverty.
A little over a year ago she said that there had been an annoucement of an "International Assembly" in Australia. She applied. Of course the elders have to "approve" your application. I guess they sit there and think "humph... is this person worthy enough for us to take their money?" So her local congregation stamped her application APPROVED and off it got sent. The cost was $5,000. to go. Yup 5 grand. Now, take into consideration she drives a vehicle that is almost 20 years old, she has health issues, tapes her glasses together because she can't buy new ones, and has qualified for food stamps most of her life. How is she going to come up with 5 thousand dollars? You'd think the elders would have seen that.
So she tells me that she sent them either $500 or $1,000 deposit which was NON-refundable and she had 6 months to come up with the rest of the money. The cost included her airfare (which I do know is expensive from Florida to Australia, lodging, and some tour, and of course their stupid boring assembly. I think it was a 12-day trip.
I ask her how is she going to come up with that kind of money, especially since she has asked me for gas money in the recent past. She says that "Jehovah will provide" that she's just so unbelievably grateful that she was "approved" to go, now she just has to pray and Jehovah will provide her with work to get there.
It really really really bugged me that she sent them so much money and had the encouragement of her elders when they can clearly see she's poor. Time went by and she wasn't able to raise the money, so the non-refundable money just dissapeared and she didn't get to go. She hardly would talk about it, just kinda clammed up when I asked several months after the fact.
This is a question on these assemblies. If you wanted to travel to Australia yourself, I am sure you could do it cheaper than their package deals. So are they making money off this too? They have become even a international travel agency.

What a looney.
by Peppermint ini used to install double-glazing, during this period i was an active witness and worked with a guy who had just come into the truth.
now i don?t know if builders are the same the world over, but the first thing we would do when we got to site was demand a cupa and ask where we could plug in our beatbox.
this would normally be met with a sigh and a resigned look from the householder.

Dating an ex-JW
by md2be inmy bf is an ex-jw and i am trying to come to terms with his family dynamics.
he hasn't talked to any of his relatives who are jw's since he split with jw ex-wife.
i was raised to know that that family is #1 regardless of what decisions you or they make in their lifetimes.

It's extremely difficult to start a "new life" when you leave the JW cult. The family doesn't want you, they don't want you around them to eat dinner with, BUT they also don't want you to have any fun, any friends, and go anywhere in life. They truly want you to fail so that they can be right.
The best thing your bf can do is get counseling, start reading some self help books about toxic families, and start living a FREE life. Free from their manipulation and their negativity.
I did it several years back and finally have a calm stable existence, but it took me a long time to get there.
Good luck!

E-watchman! Congratulations.
About a full page ad in a well known newspaper like NyTimes and USAToday... how much would that cost? If everyone donated a few dollars, could we get it printed??? I bet just getting it printed would get media attention.
I think it's something to seriously consider and I'd happily donate towards that!

I am not sure.
My grandparents live in Williams Lake, BC and most all of them have been around that cong at some time or another.
Some of the others (aunts and uncles) lived in Drayton Valley, Edmonton - Entwhistle, and Vernon.
