The actual turning point -- where you regain your own power
by JustTickledPink ini have done a lot of thinking about what it's like to actually believe the wts has "the truth" and what it felt like to be immersed in the religion and i finally figured out the exact turning point a person has to get to, that allows a person to let go of it all.. it doesn't matter what scandals you read about, what sort of a victim you were to the society, it doesn't even matter if you quit attending meetings years ago.
there comes a day when you finally realize inside your heart and throughout your mind that it's just a religion.
not "the truth," not "inspired by jehovah god," but in fact just a religion.. i started thinking about it in terms of a profession.

True, it is another cult. The point though is the same, they aren't Divine are we were indoctrinated to believe.

Fuming, Angry, seething, seeing RED!!!!!!!!!!
by Gill inmy parents went to the assembly this weekend.
they were telling me about disciplining children... the speaker was saying how all babies are born selfish and demanding for their own needs and not anyone elses.
the jist of the talk being about discipline, and training children ...ie taking them out for a good beating.. well, i don't know if any of you have ever 'just seen red!

I remember my mom uttering the same exact words that "babies are born selfish" Gawd, what a horrible way to look at it.

The longer you are angry and the longer you obsess over the WTS, the longer they are still a controlling force in your life. I have thought about this a lot. Once you realize that their power is all fake, their elders have NO real authority, once you wake up to the idea that the organization only can control the people who surrender their own power over to them, you can take back your own life. It's healthier to let go of it.

The less condensed version of the Wanderlustguy story
by wanderlustguy inthe quest for the truth?where does reality start?
maybe by finding where the lies stop?
what is a lie, is it a blatant untruth, can it be simply creating the understanding of what not to ask about?

I am so sorry to hear all of that.
The thing is you actually writing what happened means you know the difference between right and wrong and you have a conscience. The others you put in your story seem without conscience.
Your life will get better, there will be someone that you love and that loves you back. I believe that more than a hundred percent. We are all looking for the person that understands us and loves us unconditionally, that is possible.
Thank you for sharing that story.

Baptism - a question for genuine Christians
by coldfish inthis is a follow on from the post recently about someone feeling their baptism is null and void.. i was baptised in 1983 when i was 13, so before the change of wording.. regardless of the exact wording, i've seriously been wondering about my baptism status?.
after leaving the jw 18 months back, about 6 months ago i became a christian, by christian i mean that i have accepted the importance of jesus and he is my lord and savior.
i feel closer to god than i ever have, and i'm actively involved with church.

Baptism is an outwardly display. I don't think it has anything to do with what is in your heart. If you feel the need to be dunked under the water, do it, but does it hold any magical potion that is going to make you more of a Christian than you already are? I don't think so. It's just water.
Congratulations though on finding some peace.

I have done a lot of thinking about what it's like to actually BELIEVE the WTS has "the truth" and what it felt like to be immersed in the religion and I finally figured out the exact turning point a person has to get to, that allows a person to let go of it all.
It doesn't matter what scandals you read about, what sort of a victim you were to the Society, it doesn't even matter if you quit attending meetings years ago. There comes a day when you finally realize inside your heart and throughout your mind that it's JUST A RELIGION. That's all. Not "the truth," not "inspired by Jehovah God," but in fact JUST A RELIGION.
I started thinking about it in terms of a profession. There are men that are 3rd generation Marines, there are men that are 3rd generation steel mill workers, if the 4th generation son comes along and says "hey I appreciate the career choices you made, but I have decided to become a chef, or an auto mechanic, or a fireman" than the his Dad, grandfather, maybe even uncles who are in the 'family business' will be dissapointed but who DISOWNS his child because he chose a different career path?
When you relate being a Witness to a career, yes those before you may love being a steel mill worker and take pride in it, but I choose to be a chef because creating food is my passion, you can actually equate a carreer choice to a religious choice. YET, we were all taught that it's NOT a religion, it's not even a church, it's a way of life, it's "the truth" but in all actuality, IT'S JUST ANOTHER RELIGION. Bottom line. It's a publishing company that uses the Bible and a lot of buzz words to get people indoctrinated but it's just the same as the rest of them.
Once you give up believing they have something special is the day you regain your own power. Your freedom of choice, your freedom of expression, your freedom of thought. When that day comes everything changes.
I realize that happened to me 5 years after I left, it took me that many years to face it.

I finally saw the VH1 special last night and it was really great. Just interjecting that he was a JW will taint a lot of viewers who know nothing more than just that.
