Meetings were boring to me... I never could get that "wasn't the meeting tonight just wonderful" feeling. I always had to fake it.
Thursday nights have the BEST teevee on too! I love staying home.

the only thing i've been able to find is the meetup.com site, which there is a meetup in early feb. with one person attending so far, have to doubt how great it is if no one is going.... any suggestions?.
I haven't had much luck with the meetup thingie, but there are several other boards, just keep checking around and you will run across people from NC. I have sent "private messages" to people that I saw were from FL just to see what area they were in and so far have found 1 person who lives in my county.
I have belonged to another message board (nothing to do with JW, completely different arena) and in the past 5 years we've gotten together in different cities for parties and weekends. It's always been a blast.

I listen to www.radioparadise.com each and every day at work. The radio doesn't work inside my office, no reception, so it's wonderful!
anyone with legal knowledge can answer this.. the new blood form (replacing the blood card) is a dpa (durable power of attorney).
i am my jw mother's dpa.
she knows i will respect her wishes on the blood issue, so that isn't a problem.
This is only what I believe to be true.. but I think this is how it goes.
If you carry a legal document like that and it's signed by witnesses but NOT notarized, then if you are in a life/death situation the witnesses would have to testify that yes, those were your intentions if the document was ever in question.
The notarized document doesn't require you to get the witnesses to be there, because they have a licensed notary with a seal stating they saw the person sign it. It can't be questioned.
I do know that in the state of Florida, a "Living Will" that is similar must have 2 witnesses AND a notarized seal on it.
I don't understand the fascination with higher ups. I have to admit when I was younger (and in) I got caught up too, but now looking at it rationally I can't understand it.
The WTS doesn't claim to be 'divinely inspired' like the apostles were, but they are led by God... and there is so much emphasis on how special they are. It's double talk. They are plain old human beings making chit up.
i remember the jws used to criticize the "eat, drink, and be merry" philosophy "for tomorrow we might die" and i used to think that it was a good thing that i was doing something worthwhile with my life instead of being distracted with the material things, or fleshly things of the world.
that the philosophy was so fatalistic, that tomorrow we might all be dead and anyone believing in the "eat, drink, and be merry" philosophy were all so hedonistic.
today, i hear that and have different feelings towards the saying and philosophy.

i figure everyone had to start somewhere, so i just decided to throw it out.. i only recently came out of my "lockdown" phase (where you don't even speak about your feelings about "the truth") and have just started looking around.

i was born in 1964, a convenient 50 years after 1914. even in my early teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured that i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!
I was born in 1974 so I was ever closer... I remember distincly my mother yanking me out of elementary school and home schooling me from the age of 11 on. She told me that she was teaching me to be a missionary because I would never need the world's secular education. I would never make it to my teens and if I did, I never would need a career in "this system" .... I honestly believed with all my heart that I wouldn't ever go to college, get a real job, etc. I was indoctrinated to believe I would just work enough to "make ends meet" until the end came.
I was 20 years old in 1994 and that is when I quit going out in service and by 21 I was finished.
But until that time I believed it as much as I believed in gravity, it was a for sure thing.
