Should't they cancel their meeting tonight?
by carla ini find it kind of amusing that as worldly people who pass by a kh and know nothing of jw's tonight will think that the jw's are having a christmas eve service.
many churches have a number of services tonight; children's program, family/christmas eve service and maybe a midnight candlelight service.. you know how some jw's won't even wear red between nov & dec lest anybody think they are celebrating the holidays?
well then, shouldn't they cancel tonight's meeting so nobody thinks they are doing their own christmas eve service?
-
BluesBrother
To cancel the meeting would be making tonight special.. because of the date and that would be almost a celebration in reverse , if you see what I mean
No, just carry on, ignoring it. I wonder if they still go door to door Christmas Morning?.... we used to , in my miss-spent youth.

What The Fossils Say
by cofty inthe old creation book had a lot to say about the fossil record.
if i remember correctly it was some lie about all the fossils ever found would fit on a single table.
the reality is that there is an embarrassment of riches illustrating the evolution of life.

Debating Creation is a never ending topic and one that I am going to duck from , to be honest. I would say though that to criticise the writers of a 1985 “ Creation” book by holding it against findings of 21st century palaeontologist is a tad unfair.
The book should be held against evolutionary writings of its own time... I believe that was done in years past.

Just a moan - regarding the latest trend in ignorance of the English language!
by The Fall Guy inin recent months i have noticed more and more people on the net (including here) are using this latest perversion of the english language -.
"i would of done this..........or he would of tried to change things".
it's would've - short for would have!.

“The emoticon-texting/non-writing generation are losing the skill of communicating properly.“
You are dead right there Fall Guy. I despair, and blame the schools for not making it a priority.... and don’t try and tell me it is just the evolution of language. It isn’t, it is poor grammar.

Who's Happy To Go Abroad and Drive on the Other Side?
by snugglebunny ini do it most years.
being in the uk, virtually every other country nearby drives on the right.
we drive on the left.
-
BluesBrother
Only travelled by road abroad once. I declined to drive but the lad who was driving found it very easy to pull round a corner and go onto the left side of the road...force of habit for a Brit.
“The CPS is currently trying to extradite the wife of an American diplomat who killed a young man by driving on the right and then fleeing back to the USA hiding behind diplomatic immunity)”
I ,and people I know, have a lot of sympathy for this woman who is being vilified by the British media. I know that road and I can imagine how easily it could happen . After all, it was an accident for goodness sake!

Did You Know Any "Genuine"" Old School Anointed?
by Number 6 ingrowing up in scotland in the 1970s in scotland the anointed were few and far between, but we had one old dude in our cong who claimed to be one of the anointed.
in the days when it was taken seriously.. i'd be curious how you viewed them.
thing is, he wasn't an elder, or even a ministerial servant, just a plain old publisher.. but he was revered like he had a hotline to jesus.. the other week i was talking to a friend of similar age to me but who hung around the wt a lot longer than i did, and he just commented "oh him... he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself.

From the o/p....
". he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself. No more likely to be going to heaven than you or I"
Don't mock the elderly and afflicted, no doubt he was a strong young man once. Old people are not born that way, it comes to us all - even you one day !
Now the " real anointed". Like others I knew several in the past. Growing up , our old Cong. Servant for example . A serious man who knew his Bible inside out . He had a habit of lapsing into old fashioned phrases for things and referred to Jesus as " The Lord" , also liked talking about The Judge (Rutherford )
He was a decent , sincere man. I wonder what he would make of the WTS today.....

Stupid armageddon false alarms
by purrpurr inwhen i was 5/6 i remember being in the car with my jw mom and a jw sister.
they noticed a yellow ish glowing cloud in the sky which really freaked them out and they both declared that it must be a sign that armageddon was here!
they then spent the whole car trip declaring that the police and army were about to come and round up all of us.

Ok, it is easy for us to sit online and dismiss the heartfelt hopes and fears of others. We have made the leap and escaped the WT way of thinking. So why do they still believe it?.... Let's be honest, WE believed it..
The point is that the WTS does a marvellous job at blurring the line between the Org. .and God himself. If they say it, it is " spirit directed" and who wants to argue with Holy Spirit?
Being a JW means that you suspend critical thinking after baptism. You have answered the 80 questions , committed yourself and that is it. If nothing happens to shake you enough to think the unthinkable........that's where you stay......
It is like Nationalism, blind allegiance to a football club or any other mindless following
The Witnesses are not the only group to have it....

Yesterday's Watchtower Study (from October issue) "Stay Faithful Through the Gt. Tribulation"
by BluesBrother inthis article has all the trappings of wts apocalyptic theology, doom and destruction for "the world" salvation into paradise for the faithful .a schedule of future events is described thus :.
1) a worldwide proclamation of peace and security.
2) the destruction of "babylon the great"......it confidently names the characters from this visionary biblical reference, without any supporting reasons.. 3)the nations will then , as gog of magog , attack the wts and the members .

2) The destruction of "Babylon the Great"......It confidently names the characters from this visionary Biblical reference, without any supporting reasons.
3)The nations will then , as Gog of Magog , attack the WTS and the members . A frightening thought for the article readers .... but they have been fortified by the timely District Assembly programmes of recent years . ( Remember the Bunker video?)
At some point all the Anointed will be taken up to Heaven, then the cavalry come to the faithful ones rescue. The armies of Jesus ride to slaughter the opposers and deliver the believers.
All this is wonderful stuff if you believe in it. But the article gives no reasons to believe, it just makes these bold statements. Notice par 8;
"Currently, we are preaching the good news of the Kingdom and we are endeavoring to make disciples. But at that time, we may well deliver a message as hard-hitting as hailstones. (Rev. 16:21) We may proclaim the impending doom of Satan’s world. In time, we will find out exactly what our message will be and how we will deliver it. Will we use the same methods we have used for over a hundred years to accomplish our ministry? Or will we use some other methods? We will have to wait and see. In any case, it seems that we will have the privilege of boldly proclaiming Jehovah’s judgment message"
Can we be blamed for not accepting a message so full of uncertainties?
Incidentally a quote in this article from old G B member George Gangas is noteworthy, he said,
“What kind of world will that be when everybody will be a brother or a sister! Soon you will have the privilege of living in the new system of things. You will live as long as Jehovah lives. We are going to live forever.” What a wonderful prospect that is"
NB. He died in 1994.....C'est la vie

So the Witnesses still believe in rapture
by eyeslice2 inaccording today's watchtower, all the remaining ones of the anointed ones will be in heaven when the great tribulation breaks to join jesus in the battle against evil.
the watchtower was making the point that at that time god's organization will be ran by members of the 'other sheep'.
it didn't say how these remaining ones find themselves in heaven, but presumably they will be taken, i.e.
-
BluesBrother
They avoid terms like rapture and second coming , they smack of Christendom and Bab. The Great....however they do believe that the anointed will be "taken" all at once at the end of things. Also, a visible sign of Jesus Christ will bpoccur in the heavens to show that this is IT!
Similar beliefs, different name.
I note they reiterated the fall of Bab the G in 1919 ( when Rutherford anc his mates were relased from prison) , so no backdown on tnat belief either..

A JWS retirement home gets abandoned in a irresponsible way.
by Finkelstein inhere is video of one jw retirement care home that was abandoned leaving a whole lot of unused junk that should been properly removed .. what happened is a big question, it appears it was in radcliffe manchester uk.. another jah jireh home posted a cost of $3020.00 per month, so not for the poor jws out there.
does anyone out there know about this abandoned place ?.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlwsvsjququ&feature=emb_logo.

BluesBrother
It is not an official WTS project. Jah-Jireh is a private company run by Witnesses providing care homes for Witnesses... ( using Jah's name to make money) I have known some who ended up there. I don't know about the cost of it, the ones I knew did not seem particularly wealthy.
This video is a disgrace . I questioned if was their place until I saw the WT stuff left around. I wondered if was the work of later vandals, but a mattress with crap still on it? Had to be original . Why were some personal possessions of the patients left scattered around?
What dubs would call a "bad witness"
