Former Poster (TMS) Returns During Coronavirus Lockdown
by ReinventedTwice inmy old user account says i joined this forum 19 years ago, an intermittent poster starting 102 topics, the last about 12 years ago.
with my community under a volunteer stay-at-home policy and a mandatory curfew, i took the time to read all of my old posts and the replies, reminding me of how informative and therapeutic this forum was during my jw to ex-jw transition.. in 2018, my life took another turn with the death of my wife of 49-1/2 years after a long illness.
my writing, according to observers, lost its edge and purpose.. i travelled to asia, meeting a beautiful, intelligent woman in cagayan de oro, philippines, 33 years my junior.

We took pleasure in advising a know-all elder that having emblems was not necessary if no one is anointed.. That info and the WT ref I learned from this board.
The JW website said ,on the day, they would put up a video of a memorial service you could see . It occurred to us though that if they do it after sundown in New York it will be the middle of the night around here. I suppose very early next morning would do, but neither is good.
Perhaps Sis. Blues will be more used to using zoom by then and the local meeting will be o k....

Who `d a Thought The GB would Listen to the United Nations And Stop Witnessing for Jehovah.?
by smiddy3 in"we must obey god rather than men" act.5:29 has sure been discarded now and the gb are obeying the united nations world health organization and shutting down all of their "witnessing" operations ,very effectively i might add.. instead of boldly proclaiming the kingdom message as they used to blow there own trumpet about obeying god rather than men they are now more in fear of what the superior authorities will do to them if they don`t obey them.. this is something nobody banked on ever happening least of all the governing body of jehovah`s witnesses that the preaching work would come to a standstill .. of course they will put a spin on it ,that there protecting the health and well being of their members and the public.. but the fact remains they are not trusting in jehovah to protect their members nor are they trusting in jehovah to keep the "worldwide preaching work" going.. what do you think ?.

Yea, who’ a thought that the “angels declaring the good news” would be called back to base by an itty bitty virus?
Unprecedented I think, it must be the first time the work and meetings have stopped since they started..and what are they going to do with all those memorial invitations?
Oh well.... every cloud has a silver lining 😏

Zoom Can Control My Home Camera? Maybe Some Tech Help Needed.
by RubaDub ineven though i am partially in the it area of business, i don't understand here how people are saying that someone can control a camera through zoom.
so if i am sitting with a shirt and tie, someone on the other end can can control the camera and see that i am naked from the waist down and periodically have an itch?
or quickly move to the side and have a beer?.

Dubs have some problems using zoom at the moment.. They are new to such tools and clumsy with it, as I wouuld be. It will improve.
I read that you can in fact choose a virtual backdrop to your head, make it look as though you live in a super home. Also, someone I know managed to have no picture of herself, just a black square for her presence. It still showed her name though

What do you think about The Watchtower
by dydeonwl inpeople are not willing to accept the popularity of the watchtower and awake as these magazines belong to jw.
a listing site has declared the watchtower the most popular magazine in the world.. source: https://tingtopten.com/2020/01/top-10-most-popular-magazines-in-the-world/.
in comment section of this link people are abusing again jehovah's witnesses.

I am not going to abuse JWs but from an ex inside view I can explain the following
They may print 50 million but how many are read? It is given away free, on the street, on the doorstep, sometimes left in letterboxes . A vast number are thrown away unread as "junk mail" A lot more pile up undistributed in JWs homes and end up on the tip.
There are about 8million active Witnesses . I would guess maybe 10 mill. Max is a true readership.

Good News About the Covid-10 and the Watchtower Bible and Truck Society! n
by 1234 inwe all know that things are all going to be way different when we get through this milestone.. like hurricane katrina, people survived this but new orleans even 16 years later is way different.
our economy is like a shark that must keep moving through the water.
stop it and it will die.. the witnesses like many people in the world, have little to no savings.

Like you, I have no sympathy for Witnesses who live on the edge and have not prepared financially for their future"
I was one of those too. However, more by luck than judgement I have now a company pension that boosts my State one. I know many good people though who struggle because they trusted the predictions of the WTS and did not prepare . Their only crime was to make a mistake , trust the wrong advisor....
Zoom could be their saviour at this time.. Steven Lett applied a scripture about "sucking the milk of nations" to the use of modern technology by the WTS. Yesterday I saw some of the first local WT Study . The attitude seemed to be one of hunkering down and a "wartime spirit". The study took time and some had problems using the system but they all seemed to be enjoying the experience.
Sorry, but I suspect they will emerge from this stronger, having survived the "pestilence"

Have you Witnessed a Change in People's Life-Style / Behaviour where you Live?
by smiddy3 ini certainly have , over the normal week i go to one of two clubs where i have two beers over a couple of hours ( i pace myself ) and catch up with a few friends .
one of the clubs every hour goes around to disinfect everywhere people make contact with pokies /machines or whatever we might touch.and they also now have limits as to how many can be in a certain area at any one time.and that applies to both clubs ,except one does not disinfect every hour.. today, their were far fewer people in this particular club that i attended that is usually bustling with patrons on a saturday either drinking gambling and socializing .not today.
and a strict rule of how many could be in a certain area at any one time .. and i agree with all of this , its necessary .and i will be monitoring my own activities as need be.. what have you noticed in your neck of the woods.?

In U K.... the streets are less crowded , the supermarkets are busy, but have a lot of gaps on the shelves.
From today, of course, all cafes, pubs , clubs sports gyms are closed , so there is nowhere much to be going..

2020 Memorial - No Need To Actually Have The Emblems
by pale.emperor inover at jw talk they're saying because they're having to hold the upcoming memorial at home, they dont need to actually have the emblems.
apparently, listening to or watching the talk is the thing that counts.. "do this in rememberence of me" apparently means watching tony morris on your phone give a talk.. this begs the question... "what's the point?
".

We were discussing this at home this morning.... we reckoned that if you viewed yourself as anointed you would have to sit at home in front of the laptop , having bought a packet of plain matzohs and a bottle of red wine , and partake at the appropriate time..
The rest of them don’t need it .....I think....

What a Guy!......even when he tries to put an important point across, he sounds totally insincere, even comical. I can’t blame those who lampoon him.
About the talk... At least they are obeying the authorities’ recommendations I will give them that. But all that baloney about loving care by elders?
My wife has heard nothing . If it were not for me getting on here and snippets on the grapevine from a friend, she would know nothing. Elders,? Shepherds? You must be joking....

Meetings via video conference
by FedUpJW inso i just heard from a very reliable source that meetings, at least in some locations are now being video fed to the sheeple.
and guess what?
one can even comment and be seen by other members of the conference, for more encouragement.. i did see though that the service providing this video tie-in has as part of their tos this: you will receive a notification (visual or otherwise) when recording is enabled.

In U K video streaming of meetings is becoming the norm . When my wife’s cong started I tried it for curiosity. It asked the number viewing , so they could take a count and also my name. I put A N Other and it let me in.
Sis Blues went in last Sunday and got an American meeting streamed , due to Coronavirus and local meetings cancelled.
