To a point I can agree.... Certainly if you live among it long enough and cut all other social activity.....you get to believe in it.

Stockholm syndrome and religion
by menrov inbased on a discussion i had with my wife, i started to compare the situation of people who are a member of a religious organisation or are devout to a belief, to the so-called stockholm syndrome.
the stockholm syndrome is where feelings of trust or affection is felt in many cases of kidnapping or hostage-taking by a victim towards a captor.
in such a situation, the person being kidnapped is not free to leave and is held against their will but over time takes that situation as a "new normal" and even starts to see their kidnapper(s) as normal people.

Notable Watchtower Quotations
by Vanderhoven7 inlet's share some notable wts quotations that demonstrate the arrogance, ignorance, hypocrisy etc.

"To me, the "Org" has gotten less interesting"
millie ...
That is very true, even my steadfast family admit boredom with the current Org.
On this board I well remember the intellect of posters like Alan F, Blondie, Laurallea (sp?) among others . The board was more closely about WTS in those days.
Times change, even the sport forum I use has been taken up by politics in these days of Brexit, lockdown and Black Lives Matter.
But I believe this forum still does its core function, to inform and assist ex JWs. Long may it continue.

The bitter irony of revolutuions
by Bill Covert ineditorial in local paper by victor davis hansen , a classicist and historian at the hoover institution stanford university.. this is something i think you folks would find interesting.
unfortunately i am computer challenged due to the effectiveness of church shunning policies cutting off access to kids and grandkids educating me.
so if some one would be able to pull up and post the editorial, i think it would be of interest.

The Cry of Peace And Security
by jwfacts ina bit late in coming, but i have a new article on the cry of peace and security at https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/peace-and-security.php.
this was prompted by trump using the term peace and security a few times in 2017 and 2018, and the excitement this generated amongst jehovah's witnesses.
i would love to see other quotes you like on this topic, or texts and experiences..

The belief in the cry of Peace and Security as the precursor to Armageddon is still very large in Witness minds . I hear it whenever world events favour the idea......less when things go back to normal.

Beards in the WT: Africa too
by neat blue dog inas many know, african languages have for decades been given their own alternate cover with black people.
their cover for the 2020 wt#3 also includes a bearded man.
this can not be a coincidence.

I have always known that the illustrations are localised in African languages ....it is no secret.
Without knowing the context of the illustration, are we sure this is a picture of a JW family,? The wife and daughter are wearing hijabs

new situation in world helpful to org?
by Magnum insometimes new situations can provide cover for one’s mistakes or intentions.
for example, suppose that i crack the windshield in my dad’s car one night.
i go home, park the car in its usual spot in the yard, and go to bed without telling my dad because i’m scared and i’m trying to think of a way out of the situation.

So they sell off K/Halls soon, while property prices are deflated and have money in tne bank which is being deflated ?
Meanwhile they haemorrhage members and gain no new ones since their is no congregation community to keep them together and no preaching work to reach out to people.
No , the G/Body may not be bright but they are not that stupid....

Whatever the Watchtower said in the nineteenth century about race , it reflected the prevailing viewpoint of its time. I am not aware that it advocated segregation but in areas where that was necessary to avoid a backlash, it went along with it .
In South Africa in my memory their view was that the preaching work was all important and not to be sidetracked by local inequalities. They did a work-around and had black and white congregations.
I am not saying that was good or bad, but that ipwas their judgement and they mixed as soon as the law allowed

Yes ,the scene of the world is changeable, unpredictable, not always what we want ....but was it not ever thus?
This may be remembered as a “Summer of discontent “ and like no other most of us have experienced.. but is it harder to handle than say, 1940 or any year in WW2 ?
Times have been worse in times past . Have a beer and cheer up!
