I was baptised at a young age, that never stopped my Mum and big sister giving me a hard time though…… You can make all the rules you like but it doesn’t stop the reality of home life being what it is .

The young elder topic made me think of this
by enoughisenough init somehow never set well with me that if a boy got baptized that his mother couldn't pray or hold a study with him or in his presence without a headcovering.
maybe some of you were baptized as a boy in the home...how did that make you feel?
( like knowing you had rank over your mom???

Just read that Carl Olof Jonsson died yesterday
by slimboyfat infor newbies, who was carl olof jonsson?
he was a jw in sweden who was challenged by a householder in the 1960s, who pointed out to him that secular history books don’t agree with watchtower that jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bce, but instead place the event 20 years later.
the reason the date is important is because it is the starting date for jw chronology which leads to 1914 as the end of the gentile times, and the beginning of the last days, as jws understand it.

I have not read all of Carl Olaf Johnson’s book but I have read enough of it to be impressed by the work . It methodically shows that the 1914 date and others are just the faulty reasoning of men ..
Farewell Carl, you have left a great legacy. RIP.

It is a pity that tabloid newspaper is our source for this . We shall see if anything more develops . However, I won’t hold my breath.. There have been many “wonderful “ finds that have promised more than they delivered. This might be a better article, if link works

I still don’t see a clear beard on the guy , mind you the WT May 1 1968 said this
‘“ In paradise restored on earth it would not be out of order if men returned to wearing beards, in perfect fashion, like Adam in Eden.”

Christmas Decorations at the Kingdom hall
by Simon ini can't remember if i've told this story before .... but back in the day, in irlam congregation (northwest england, uk, cheshire #1 circuit i think) we used to rent a kingdom hall for many years before we eventually built our own.. preston hall.
ah, the memories .... it was primarily used as a community hall for old folks, but we had it friday night and sunday morning.. there was a loft and fold-out ladder and we used to store the chairs up their.
every meeting, there would be an assembly line of all the "lads" to pass the chairs down and set them up, then collect them up and pass them back up at the end of the meeting.

Yes , there were some funny things to put up with in the days when we used to rent halls. I can’t match Simon’s story but....
I remember a Circuit Assembly in my childhood that was held in what seemed to be an army drill hall. At the back of the audience there stood a large field gun of some sort, just there at the hall while we talked of peace on Earth.
When I was giving Public Talks one place had a portrait of The Queen up behind the platform. As the congregation arrived though, someone turned up with a Yeartext board , made to fit and covered it up completely..
A lot of things happened in the past that would not be done now, congregations were more independent and sometimes did their own thing.

“The 2023 Convention will show what true patience really is and why we need it”
That’s a true statement! The conventions used to test my patience to the limit and I’m sure this one will too ! 😁
NB . I didn’t spot a beard in it

England: Failure to Report Child Abuse to be Illegal
by notsurewheretogo inpeople who work with children in england will be legally required to report child sexual abuse or face prosecution under government plans.. .
the move - which is subject to a consultation - was recommended last year by the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse (iicsa).. .
the home secretary told the bbc she wanted to correct one of the "biggest national scandals".. .

It is clearly the right thing to report serious crimes ,and what is more serious than child abuse?
I just hope that by the time this makes law no exceptions are granted for religion. ( House of Lords Bishops please note) Even if that were done they need to see the big difference between the Catholic confession box and JW elders ……

How do you generalise? There are those who absolutely love it and do it wholeheartedly and the spectrum ranges to those who might grudgingly do an hour or even fiddle a report.
I think there are more that do their best than the slackers

Would I be disfellowshiped for this?
by ExBethelitenowPIMA inif a publisher openly told the elders that they thought the gb were wrong about some or a lot of things, but said they will not share these thoughts with anyone else then would this be a case of disassociation disgfellowship?.
my guess is lots of elders meetings and shepherding calls to try to get you to say something they could use against you.. but what would be the sin in which you are not repented?.
the only reason to be dissed is non repentance?.

Punk is largely right, I am afraid. I have known a B of E that built a case against someone who they wanted to get rid of.
It does depend though on the character of the elder.. I have managed to have discussions with one or two that were more reasonable. However I paved the way by asking if I could say anything freely, and got their agreement. I also set my points as questions rather than facts . I wanted to be seen as a man with doubts rather teaching alternative statements.
But be careful!

disfellowshipped for having a personal opinion based on WT
by Leslie inin 2008 i was baptized into the truth after leaving a trinitarian faith.
during my eight years as a jehovah’s witness, i strived to keep the standards set by the bible, wt and the faithfull and discrete slave.
but unfortunately, the congregational elders from the kingdom hall i attended were not keeping to jehovah’s standards, hence, wrote my letter of resignation.

It is perfectly normal to have private opinions and viewpoints on things , I believe most experienced Witnesses do. The wrong thing , in their eyes , is to say it out loud to Another brother. That makes you a danger , in their narrow close minded view.
Keep it to yourself and your wife ……
