  Only baptised JWs will make it?

  i think it was a john cedars video or someone else’s where the point was brought up that only baptised jws will be saved?

  then one talk about kids of baptised jws hope they will make it but even them don’t know.

  most jws probably think that some good people who are not baptised may make it through, but this is not official teaching?.

  JWs unrecognisable compared to my grandfathers time

  my grandfather who has been dead for 37 years would not recognise the borganisation today.

  he would turn in his grave if he knew the end didn’t come by 2023.. back in the 1970s he really believed in the 75 thing.

  he was so disappointed and almost blamed everyone else why the end didn’t come.

  I would add to Journeyman’s list the withdrawal of the Tuesday Group Book Study.

  That is still greatly missed by the oldies I know, the deeper study and a sociable cuppa afterwards did a lot to bond them together. Nowadays they complain they hardly know each other.

  I guess it is like an elders meeting. Something is considered,debated and then agreed based on the elder’s judgment at the time. If later, an elder has to justify that decision to another brother he will say , “ We prayed for Gods guidance and the Spirit led us to agree on it “

  The GB always claim that their decisions are from God ….. until they change it a few years later ! Then the new understanding is from God… 🤔

  That statue of Marsyas is a story from ancient mythology

  “Apollo, of course, defeated Marsyas. He then exacted a savage punishment, exemplifying the jealous and petty nature of the Greek gods: he tied Marsyas to a tree and flayed him alive. It was said that Marsyas’ fellow woodland creatures wept a literal river for him”

  It is not a real event and the story of having him tied to a tree is nothing like a death by impalement / crucifixion.

  I owe you an apology. I did not realise that the video was your own and I am very sorry for my rudeness.

  I do still hold that the Witnesses today view the U N as just one part of the the political system and ,as is evident, they are happy to accept its charitable works. The days of denouncing it as “the disgusting thing standing where it ought not” are long gone.

  I did not have the patience to watch all of this guy’s video and put up with his blathering.

  The beginning though was about in the present day , a Witness family in war torn Africa seeks refuge in a UNHCR refugee camp. Later , no doubt they thank Jehovah, as they always do.

  so what is wrong? The dubs are told that all politics are in the hand of Satan so whether the camp is provided by the the UN, their government or another makes no difference. They accept help gladly , thinking of Romans 13 that governments are in place as God’s minister.....

  If I have missed a point, please say so.

  Guaranteed way not to get disfellowshipped

  if it’s looking like someone may be disfellowshiped or announced they are no longer a jw and they don’t want to be shunned they just want to fade without being shunned - just say that would make me suicidal .

  simple.

  in the new shepherding book it says if they say that then don’t go ahead with it.

  In my case the slow fade worked well. Here in UK the elders have not bothered with me. When I initially resigned and stopped reporting I expected them to reach out to me, but in the end my wife actuality had to beg them to talk to me. I had an hour of their time in the KH and then no more . The cong. where we live now have ignored me completely although they know me from association .

  I have remembered to be diplomatic around dubs so they don’t care. That suits me fine.

  please consider the following scenario.. you're seated on a railway platform bench waiting for your train.

  a high speed intercity is about to hurtle through without stopping when you see a small child running to the platforms edge!

  “Why does God allow it?” was a frequent objection when we used to do house to house ministry . I can remember it as far back as the Aberfan disaster when I was still a youngster.

  The stock Witness answer is to say that God expects mankind to look after himself and he is not there to protect us from ur own mistakes and ignorance since man chose a course of rebellion against him. If he protected us from the consequences we would have no reason to be careful. It would also help maintain the rotten sinful life we have today.Rather , his purpose provides a permanent solution to sin and death.

  Nowadays I can see the holes in that argument and I know why nobody believed me. Truth is I cannot answer the question…

  Mind you that answer is better than saying, as some vicars do, that God must have wanted another angel in heaven and took the child !

  a pet peeve of mine

  putting this under "friends" because i couldn't figure out where to put it.

  it is very often on here and in ex jw videos, ect that people like to undermine some of those who once we would have called friends.

  there seems to be a view that window washers, plumbers, cleaners, construction workers are somehow less intelligent than those who may be college educated.

  I agree a lot with the original post. Some of the smartest people I knew have been builders, cleaners etc... not because that was all they could do but because they chose that, to spend their time as Elders, Pioneers etc. When I worked for a large company I often thought that the management there was inferior to that of the congregations....That was some time ago of course, I have not been impressed with the elders I see around now,

  Of course they don’t know what an expert knows but we are talking of faith , not expertise. I only know that the Apostles were “ unlettered and ordinary men”.
