  24 hours later and I still feel sickened and sad rather than angry

  To be honest, I had always thought that Silentlambs were overstating things and that the Org could not be as bad as they made out . But I believe it now.

  Some of the cases on TV were not far from here. It made much more impact on me to see a "Brother" from Rugby in handcuffs than any number over there in the U S.. How could the elders allow it to happen??????

  That case from Scotland was beyond belief . They just did not care about the kid. !

  We gave the best years of our lives to that Org , and all the time it was a] in with the U N and b] protecting child molestors . You can get d/f for smoking a cigarette, but these ******** s get away with the worst crimes imaginable

  I am just sickened, for the victims and all the cong's - they have all been fooled , and I am too choked to write sensibly.

  Panorama: outstanding!

  i didn't see all of panorama, but what i did see was outstanding.

  in its depth and thoroughness, it surpassed what dateline had to offer.

  Despite all that that I have read on the net, I was still shocked and horrified. Deeply saddened by the impact of local cases Tragic for the victims- I am still shocked to think that this org, which shaped so much of our lives , and of which we though so much could have sunk so low

  That was just one of the brilliant comments from this thread that show how much we all felt the same.

  I too hated being looked at as if I were some kind of example, and the way people treated us differently. My own sister, when one of her kids said something a little risque " Careful,Daniel is an Elder you know!"

  The macho spirit at the elders meetings when the personality cult prevailed and if you were not like them you were looked on as a wimp.

  Finally,.it was just a treadmill .Every weekend always the same routine ,never time to yourself .

  Thank God it is over now.

  i just heard that the tumwater washington (near olympia) kingdom hall burned down today.

  my friend said it was on the news, and dubs were being interviewed.

  i think it is sad how witnesses don't think future.

  they don't save for a rainy day, don't plan for retirement, don't get higher education, alot are overweight, thinking why bother, don't worry about their health, etc.

  and, have you notice, they almost try to get people to have low self esteem?

  Rather that trade insults over obesety, I think the original post was a good one.

  All of us were taught to live in the present and leave the future in "Jehovah's hands" . The result is a lot of us in dead end jobs, some never married or never had kids and certainly not save towards an increased pension That would be lost money since we never believed it would be drawn upon.

  WE prided ourselves on being the "Foolish , who were putting the world to shame [ 1.Cor 1.27]

  now we look back on a wasted life,three quarters over, and whilst taking responsibility for our own decisions we cannot excuse those whom we trusted to be "Spirit directed"

  OK not nearly so bad as those who have been abused , but I still felt like having a moan!

  did the 1914 generation die anyway?

  ver since the beginning of the watchtower movement, they have had some sort of deadline for god's activities.these activities could be the rapture of the saints (which jws today do not believe in), the destruction of "false religion", ie every other religious group, or the final end of this world.

  earlier, these deadlines were explicit dates.

  Looking back I believe that the WT of '95 was the start of my pulling away from the WT , just like a few others.

  after reading latte's post on jahh's thread, it seems that the dubs are going full-bore into their good old duck and hedgehog style of crying "persecution!!!!!

  " as soon as it looks like they're being exposed.. dateline, apparently, was persecution.

  Sorry but I disagree. All the witnesses I know are abhored by child abuse and I still believe that the Gov Body do not intentionally intend to create an environment for such horrible acts.

  Yet I must reluctantly admit that this seems to have occurred. Why?

  Perhaps their distrust of "The World" has a lot to do with it and fear that someone accused would be thrown in jail without a fair trial , after all Satan "Rules this world"

  Also the innate belief that "Jehovah sees all and we can leave it in his hands" Sit back ,do nothing and wait for the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth.

  Ray Franz said that the Gov Body are victims too of the instutional thinking that they have had for decades.

  This is not to excuse their negligence, just a perspective.

  bbc central news have reported that james barrat , an elder in rugby congregation has received a two year sentence for abusing two teenage boys over a ten year period.. the abuse took place at bible studies .. the judge called him an "arch hypocrite".

  the police said he is "extremely dangerous" and one of the victims , now in early 20's,gave an interview and said "do not bother with the elders, go straight to the police

  it may be worth preparing and brushing up on things ready for the phone-ins and live chat after panorama airs.

  they also allow people to submit comments via the website.. in addition, there are often follow up programmes covering issues raised such as this morning, kilroy, tonight with trevor macdonald and various radio phone-ins.. don't be shy people ... the wts is on the ropes with a deservedly bloody nose with this one - let's put them on the canvas.

  I remember reading an article about Trevor Macdonald in which he said that he had been raised as a devout witness in his native West Indies - but when he left home as a young man he left it all behind him.

  2 of the above were also 'arranged' marriages, do you know of any other instances of extremes in jw marriage age ranges?

  I thought I knew of some extreme age differences until I read this thread .

  18 - 66 is not May to September, more like Feb. to November!!

  We once had a C/o who was well into his 60's and had a nice young wife ,no more than 30. She used to occasionally give him prompts on the platform when he had forgotten the next thought. But he was unconventional in other ways too . I rather liked him.

  In one congo Bro D sadly lost his long term wife to cancer,both in their 60's . Within a few weeks he was seeing sister L ,in 20- 30s . They soon had registry office wedding and that upset everyone who thought it was not right . Last I heard they were still ok .

  I believe it is all down to a firm belief in the New World. After all , if you are going to live forever ,what does a few years now matter? Age would soon even out
