This d/a thing would surely never stand up in court . If a claimant showed that he was being treated as a pariah by his former friends and family , and he had not wished to leave the faith. It could easily be demonstrated that Witnesses do not shun those who simply leave the faith. So it is d/f by another name.

I am interested in this statement that US hospitals hire JWs as "bloodless treatment managers" . Can we be specific about this? Examples?

I well remember this scandal being discussed and investigated at length on here. Trouble is, with the passing of time we are not going to find any absolute truth. The circumstantial evidence that Farkel presented is certainly significant.

I worked out that something was wrong before I dared to venture on the net or read opposing material. I had been faithful for decades, but time was passing by. I could not see how the world could enter the 21st century if the time scale was right. I was troubled also by the teaching that all non believers would die at Armageddon. That just seemed wrong.

I was sat at my desk at work one break time just mulling things over. This time I dared to think the unthinkable, “ Suppose it is all just not true?”

That was it . An epiphany moment and I never looked back.

Yes , she was famous at the time in the U.K. after winning all that money. Incidentally the “Pools” are not really a lottery, it is betting on the outcome of football matches.

There were tv interviews with her in her later life and she seemed then to be a lady leading a quiet life as a “normal “ dub . You would never guess she was the same person.

I don't know but I’d guess she must have passed away by now

I am always cautious when experiences are related unless they actually happened to the person relating it. You never know all the circumstances......

I was ,however, called to sit on this committee to hear the case of a bro. we were told was guilty of gambling. Fair enough, I took my place and we heard what had happened. It turned out that all he had done was to donate to a local charity, in a pub. collection tin and was handed a ticket with lucky numbers to scratch off. The guy then did so and tossed the ticket away. For that he was hauled before the committee.

In any other congregation I had been in , if such a complaint was made an elder would have a quiet word and that would be that.

Sitting there I did not feel able to contradict my fellow elders so I had to go along with it and the guy was duly reproved... A complete waste of time in a vindictive congregation..

I am in favour of vaccination but if I were an elder I would not like to be told what my opinion should be or what to say about a personal family decision.

Maybe, of course.. since they did get involved with the Govt. food aid programme.

However, if they have any savvy they would not do so. It would risk their credibility as an independent adviser acting solely for the good of their members. Also they have not come out and actually said “take it” , except leaning heavily that way in a letter to full time servants.

( Edit.. I have just read the new announcement to elders, which is pretty strong. While not insisting they get vaxxed they definitely must not talk against it or be accused of spreading dissent. Hmm . That may have affected what I wrote above, but I still doubt they are claiming a handout , although I have been here too long to say “ of course not”)

It is still there .. alive and printing according to their official website. You may download a tour brochure although tours are suspended during Covid.
