Peaceful Pete made a good comment on the previous page. To read this you would think that dubs are totally heartless,and we know that is not so.

I recall once that a severely emotional sister had been recently housed in a tower block that scared her and gave her thoughts of jumping from the balcony. Another Witness family took her in for a bit until she was allocated a ground floor flat . That one was a wreck so lots of lads in the cong were co opted to decorate, which we deed with good grace.

Now that only happened because one elder was caring enough to organise it . The trouble in the .Org. Is that there is no organised provision for physical care . There should be an elder position specifically for it . There is not because those at the top do not take it seriously.

Are the teachings of JW—consistent?

i would belief so but if you can point something out, it can be discussed.. i don’t mean what jw taught in the past that they later realized was not correct and amended.

—unless you think and can show something like that is relevant.. i’ve spoken to a lot of believers from different religions.

i don’t want to bash any religion here under this topic but their beliefs are inconsistent and their reasons are sophistry and made up and grounded on circular reasoning.

The scriptures are fine , and the basic scriptural truths about God , Jesus and his return are found in most religions. It is the special understanding of things that the WT has , that is illogical.

Christ is supposed to have returned invisibly in 1914., that is 108 years ago! For me the time lapse is no longer credible, seeing that Jesus said “ this generation “ . The attempt to explain this by overlapping generations, still being that generation, are pure invention.

I could go on , with their u turns and abandoned beliefs , all presented as divine revelation but I am sure others will do so

I have known more than one Witness who claimed to have lived their life in constant prayer to God and saw his hand in every little thing . When little things went wrong it was “what is Jehovah teaching me here? “ . However most of us were not like that.

So why do some seem to get a lot of help from their congregation and others not ?

I believe it is down to personality and, the more you give ,the more you receive, like in any community. Sisters that were always involved, always willing to help and being interested in others will receive help from their many friends. Those of us more of a quiet nature , keeping to ourselves… well , no one notices if we are not there and are less minded to put themselves out for us. That’s human nature.

A Christian congregation is supposed to be better than that , offering a hand to all members regardless… but , you know how it is…..

i have the original release of the aid to bible understanding book (english), copyright, 1971 (inside front cover).

only if there is a later copyright date cited in your aid book will i need your help.

i wish to make a word for word comparison of certain articles that were found in the aid book, then transcribed into its predecessor -- the insight on the scriptures.. .

My 1971 Aid book says the same as the o/p posted from the Insight book, ie, that Sodomites may get a resurrection.

We all know that the Society has swung to and fro on this scripture, the Witnesses even chuckle about how silly it has all been …. So what are we trying to prove?

1969 Awake on Education - A Sore Spot for Me

my father would have started college 49 years ago this week.

about three months earlier, the week he graduated high school, the awake!

magazine came out with some very clear direction to teenagers.

Sadly, I can remember taking part in an Assembly Drama that directed young ones to pioneer . I played the role of a young man’s career advisor doing my best to persuade him to secure a future for himself.The Drama showed the perils of materialism ,and of course at the end he did the “ right” thing.

I was miming to a tape recording but I do hope that my small part did not cause young people to miss out

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses attend so many meeting?

ronald curzan ( helper to the teaching committee ) gives a talk on the real reasons jehovah's witnesses should attend meetings.

it looks like the zoom meetings have softened up many witnesses.

many are probably turning off their cameras and zoning out.

Hey we used to have Three meetings a week, Thursday, Sunday and the Tuesday Group Study. We all felt that they got rid of the best one when they axed the Group Study ….

Pioneer hour requirement returns

as of march 2023, the hour requirement for pioneers, which was suspended during the pandemic, will once again be enforced.. elders will review the activity of all pioneers in june 2023. if it appears that any do not have a “practical schedule” (aren’t getting at least close to 70 hours per month”), elders are to “kindly and frankly discuss their circumstances”.. what’s that sound that seems like a torpedo plane diving on its target?

that’s the sound of the number of regular pioneers in complete free fall .

I believe most Pioneers will be ok with this. They knew the hours cessation was temporary. Some will welcome some help to get back into routine. If they have got totally out of it during the pandemic then it is best they stop kidding and come off.

why celebrate xmas?

many on here are ex jw....they have left the jws because of coming to find out the many false indoctrinations.

one of the things learned as a jw is that there isn't anything true about xmas being the birth of jesus.

( matt chapter 2 tells a whole different narrative about the baby jesus than what is portrayed by the christian churches) they learn the ways that are celebrated are pagan practices jesus told the samaritan woman that god wanted to be worshipped in spirit and it truth.

Being married to a devout and sincere JW, there is no way that we would celebrate Christmas. That said, I have no desire to. The customs and traditions and the food are unappealing to me so I have no problem with sitting it out.

Myth of 1914

the wt engages in history revisionism when insisting the world changed overnight in 1914. in fact the european power struggles that came to a head were centuries old.

millions of lives had been lost in the wars of the 19th century, with the world a powder keg the years prior to the assassination of franz ferdinand in june 1914 which is often said, albeit rather arbitrarily, as the start of the war that escalated over the next 4 years into the great war.

take a look at these two pages and ask if the wt's interpretation of history seems accurate to you.

“The Truth Shall Set You Free”….. we used to have copies of that in the house when I was young , heaven knows where they are now. That is a good catch Atlantis.

As for 1914 , I used to believe it. Not because I had any real knowledge but because the WT Society taught it and I figured that they knew more than I did.

As time went on though , decades went by and in the late nineties I was concerned. I just could not see that we would pass into the twenty first century and still be in the old world . As that got closer I dared to think the unthinkable, and seriously asked myself whether it was really true, or just another religion of men ?

And here I am….
