  A Coin With a Remarkable History

  over the years i have shared a few examples of objects i have found while metal detecting near my home in northumberland in ne england.

  i live in a rural estate that was the site of a medieval village with a manor house and defensive tower.

  many of the things i find illustrate the amazing history of the location.

  If I were still a young enthusiastic dub , I could be confused.. y this and the stuff that comes later in the AGM.

  We followed the GB, the “slave” because we thought they did know…. That somehow they had information that we did not. …that God revealed things so if they said something- then that’s how it was.

  Now they seem as much in the dark as the rest of us … “they just don’t know “!

  my wife zoe and i often talk about her grandmother who has never been a jw but is an excellent christian by other opinions.

  she has led such a good life always kind and tried to follow jesus example.

  before the agm new light my wife often thought according to current light is that as long as she dies before armageddon she will be resurrected.

  Of course those who point out that Arm. Is not real , are correct..

  However the up to date WT view interests me since I have close family ties.. The new thoughts sound interesting ,but I am waiting until I can here the original unedited AGM talks before I finally decide what they now say…

  I attended that 2 week course. In the UK, at a local KH.. We has a Bethel Instructor a Bro. David Gibson. He was first class …. the finest teacher I have ever known, in or outside the Society.

  I was a young newly appointed elder and I came out of there feeling it was all wonderful.

  ( actually,i think someone wanted to give me a donation for the left over yardsale items i gave away.

  I never agreed with that edict not to accept other people’s tracts. I used to carry on. I felt embarrassed when the Uber elder I was with once stopped me from taking one…..

  two of my aunts, their husbands, both elders, various cousins and two of my sisters are witnesses.

  so is my grand uncle.

  I can attest to this attitude. Since I stopped serving the WTS my wife has been a “spiritual widow “ . She has received damn all in terms of shepherding or interest . A while back she contacted the COBE to remind him she was still here. Apologies and promises followed…. No different though….

  even elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.

  they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.

  i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

  The o/p is a little extreme but , yes it is far easier to be a dub these days . That’s if you are not motivated to “ seek first the Kingdom “ , you can tread water quite happily.

  Great info in this thread , there was some stuff I did not know.

  one change that is fundamental is the identity of the faithful and discreet slave . For decades growing up and serving, we all knew that it was the remaining ones on Earth of the anointed 144,000. Then when the numbers started rising, and they suspected some “fake anointed “, they changed it to the Gov. Body themselves, only.

  I mean , if they didn’t even know who they were for all that time, how can they be appointed by Christ to “care for his belongings “?
