so you can see from multiple topics here (& elsewhere), based on gb update #4, jws now have permission to toast.. there’s been a boatload of “xyz is now allowed” over the past couple of years….beards, no ties in field service or at the kh, sister can wear pants at the kh & in field service…... what do you think is next?.
a lot of folks are speculating on birthday celebrations being allowed, and i agree that will eventually come, but i don’t think it is next.

Thanks for alerting me to this . So there is nothing against clinking glasses and toasting someone,. I would struggle to find many people that I would want to toast , but I suppose in family setting it could be .

The WT does not name books etc that it finds unacceptable but individuals will always seek to impose their views on others . We have had it with Lord of the Rings dvd casually left out.

I would agree with SBF and others above. For me the stand out phrase was to call elders “ glorious ones “ …. Huh !
I would never see an elder as glorious and when I was one I would never want to be viewed that way. I thought that all were brothers, shoulder to shoulder.

so today i saw a group of jws i know, we were sitting down to eat at a public place and i guess they (mom and daughter) were performing at an event with their sports team… for juneteenth.. they (the entire team) happened to sit next to us for some fast food and i recognized them and said hi, hoping to make them uncomfortable.
they actually said hi and introduced themselves to my family, i’ve seen them before (they go to the same school as one of my kids) and they usually ignore me.
i know for a fact they and their family still goes, the family patriarch is an elder etc.
Juneteenth may not be religious but it is more political. From what I read it celebrates black people’s freedom from slavery. Witnesses are supposed to be “ no part of the world” and as such they would leave such “worldly” causes alone . The correct thing , in their view, would be to direct attention to the Kingdom to make all men equal.
It is my guess that if the “patriarch” elder knew of this he would stop it.

Interesting articles and, yes, we know that the Society through the pages of the Golden Age ( later Awake ! ) often made some pretty extreme comments in the old days .Even today many Witnesses have lingering doubts about regular doctors and favour alternative therapies. Btw, I have definitely benefited from Osteopaths and Chiropractic therapy, but that is hardly extreme.
Many years back when I was still a believer, I could see that such comments on medicine and science were only the view of the article writer although then I accepted that the doctrinal stuff was “ spirit directed “ .

when i first came into contact with jehovah's witnesses they were talking about god's kingdom bringing about a peaceful new world.
the scripture used being psalm 37:10,11 "just a little while longer and the wicked will be no more.you will look at where they were and they will not be there., but the meek will possess the earth and they will find exquisite delightin the abundance of peace..".
i took this to mean, then, that when jehovah intervened, at his appointed time, it would be instantly, invisibly, and painlessly.
Some of them are silly enough to take these WT pictures for real, rather than just an artist’s view….
But cities? Where the hell did that come from? Everyone’s view of a new world is not to live in a city but a green and verdant land .. I would like to have a reference to Splane’s talk to hear what he said , if it is still there.
