The problem isn't so much the Jw's as the blood industry doing everything it can to keep the perflourocarbons off the market here in North America. Those things have been around since the 50s or 60s that I know of. I did a research paper on it in highschool back in the early 1970s.
You may agree or not with the Jw's, but don't buy into the transfusion being a safe treatment. It isn't and I know folks who don't want it for that fact alone. In fact, I remember a medical professional who loathes the JWs who underwent a heart bypass without blood in the 80's because of all the things he could've caught from blood (aids was high on his mind then). We should all have the right to decide on our treatment modalities and if the medical community can make effective alternatives avaible, they should instead of sitting on them.
This may earn me some nasty comments. But screw it!

Interesting JW / blood case (abdominal pregnancy)
by Scully inhemoglobin level was 6.9 mg/dl, and hematocrit value was 20.1%.
postoperative hemoglobin level was 2.8 mg/dl.
our patient's case was complicated, since she was a jehovah's witness and refused lifesaving treatment on religious grounds.

Can't Americans Understand Plain English?
by Englishman ini watched an interesting film last night.
"a handful of dust" with kristen scott-thomas and alec guinness.. it wasn't bad, so this morning i idly took a peek at the write ups on the net, it being a movie made in the 80's.
to my astonishment, some american viwers were complaining that the movie didn't have any sub-titles!!!

Gosh is this ever rich!
So you Britts have a time understanding northerners and southerners as well? We have problems like that here on our side of the pond as well. By the way, don't ever call somebody from my part of the U.S. a "Yank" to their face. that's a good way to lose a few teeth! :-) Yanks (Yankees) come from north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Apostates commit the unforgivable sin and will NOT be resurrected.
by gumby ini posted this on another thread....but as usual, when i posted it, the thread died and so i thought i'd put it under a different subject as it's worth re-reading.. the society has always said nobody is the judge who commits the dreaded...."unforgivable sin", but they sure the hell do not having any trouble making a statement concerning apostates as commiting the unforgivable sin.. 1982 watchtower 4/1 p.26-28 .
" jesus told the unrepentant scribes and pharisees that they and their gentile proselytes were subjects for gehenna or, literally, sons of gehenna.
(matthew 23:15, 33-35; see also john 9:39-41; 15:22-24.

By the way, good one Gumby!
On another forum I go to, I pointed out that the the GB considers Apostates to be guilt of the unforgiveable sin and possibly among those that the GB says recieve the ultimate penalty of death without a hope of a resurrection. you just provided me with proof i can point to!
Thanks!

This was part of all that ranting against apostates right after the scare they had at headquarters during the early 80's. They'd discovered that many in the organization and even some at Bethel didn't agree with the GB and they knee-jerked! They launched a witch hunt throughout the Borg complete with star-chamber JC hearings and Stuff like the above quoted article.
They ought to be embarrassed by it all! -

Does being a JW make a person physically sick?
by Gill indefinitely mentally and more than likely physically.. i have read on a few posts and freeminds about an increase of mental illness amoungst jws of between 2 and 40 % and it seems understandable considering the amount of stress being in the borg puts on people.. but what about physically?.
what are your experiences since leaving the borg?.
do you feel well and fitter than ever before?.

Forscher
Of course it can, if one tries to live up to all the rules and regulations and expectations for performance that the GB dumps on everybody (remember Jesus' words about the religious leaders binding loads upon the people that they themselves were unwilling to move with even a finger?).
Not too long ago I was visited by a sister who'd wanted to see how my family was doing. She Pioneers during the day, works fulltime at night, goes to all the meetings, and goes to quick-builts and other projects. There she sat on my sofa with bags under her eyes, obviously on the verge of a physical break down due to sheer over-work and lack of rest. It made me glad that I got off that treadmill!

Near as I've ever been able to determine he wasn't. The charge is usually made because the crown and cross symbol he used is also used by the Masons. But, then, it was also used by other groups as well, so that in and of itself doesn't prove he was connected with them. I seem to remember the subject coming up on another forum somewhere and a Bible Student posted a quote from CTR in which he denied any invovlement with the Masons.
I've also seen the fact that a Masonic temple now sits on land near CTR's grave used as proof that he was a Mason. However, that temple was built only a few years ago on land that it appears was sold to them by it's former owners, the WTBTS.
