I am not suprised at all that the WTBTS seems unaware of that kind of iunformation. The folks who write for them are scholars of Watchtower literature and nothing else. that is why we probably will not see any meaningful innovation out of them.

Coptic translation of Revelation 3:14
by slimboyfat inin an earlier thread i mentioned how witnesses are using the sahidic coptic translation to support their view on john 1:1. now witness apologists are pointing out that revelation 3:14 supports their view that this verse teaches that jesus is god's first creation.
whereas the greek uses a word that might be construed to mean "origin" or "ruler" rather than "beginning", the coptic word used is said to mean purely "beginning.
i wonder why the society have not made use of this before.

My first one was an Atari combination Game/computer. There was no disk drive or anything like that. Any program had to written in Atari Basic and input manually. I remember my baby brother coming over one day and talking about this new game he wanted to play, Flight Simulator. So he decided to sit right down and type in his own version of it from his head and fly the damn thing! Those were the days!

Do you think the media tells you the truth?
by free2beme ini am always amazed at how people i would consider, smart, believe the media so much.
they will say they have gone to college or have read information on topics, and then be swayed in their thinking by one news program.
do you trust the media?

Interesting question considering that one mainstream news outlet was caught using forged documents to prove it's "truth" during the last presidential election.
I think one should never accept the news at face value. It has never been reliable when an agenda was invovled. Just before the Sapnish American War, the newspapers of the day were pushing naked imperialism. They wanted the United states to sieze Cuba and other Spanish colonies and printed shocking lies meant to inflame the poulace to that end. The result was that we went to war on dubious grounds to sieze Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipines.
Newsroom lies have a long and rich tradition as the foregoing illustrates. My opinion is that one should use a variety of sources, across the political spectrum, and engage in a little critical thinking on the news which is presented. I don't just watch Fox. I also try to catch CNN and to some extant ABC or NBC as well as some foreign language newscasts. I try to do the same on the net. I don't limit myself to right-leaning sources and make use of foreign language news sites.

I'd say to scan the elder's Manual, give copies to those who can make good use of it and protect your anonymity, and then do whatever you want!

3-15-06 WT "Keep Clear of False Worship!"
by Bonnie_Clyde inthe whole article condemns all other religions in no uncertain terms--using such terms as "a drunken prostitute", "prostituted herself by forming alliances with one political power after another.
" paragraph 9: "that jehovah hates false worship is clearly seen from what happens to babylon the great.
revelation 17:16 states: 'the ten horns...will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire.

Are you worshipping a false prophet?
by scout575 inat matthew 24:30 jesus predicts his second coming, saying that he would appear: "in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
" in verse 34 he goes on to say that: "this generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
" jesus is prophesying that his second coming would occur during the lifetime of his contempories.

That verse is one of the reasons that many feel the prophecy had a wider application to a far later date. The fact that a significantly large number of the details were in fact fulfilled is the critical reason higher critics date the Gospels after the fall of Jerusalem rather than before. So many details were spot on, that they cannot be the product of mere guess work. If the higher critics with their naturalistic reasoning are correct, then the whole thing was a fraud, the Gospels were written after the fact. If they are wrong, then the fact that certain features of the prophecy were not fulfilled is an argument, not for Jesus being a false prophet, rather, it is a powerful argument for the prophecy having a wider and later fulfillment as well.
It all hinges on whether the higher critics, with their reasonings of doubt, are correct or not.

Your comments are very interesting Skyman. You said you knew people who were from that time? How old were they when they passed that information on? And what was their relation within the Nez Perce tribe. Were they from the clique which opposed him? Were they mainstream? Since they are surely now gone, can you provide names?
I am not attacking your report. I am kind of interested in it since I am part Amerindian myself.

Matthew Chap 24, generation applies ONLY for 1st century
by greendawn inwhen reading the prophecy in matthew 24 about the end it is obvious that the last generation thing the jws bring up is complete nonsense.
there are two strands here, one for the end of jerusalem and the jewish state and a second for the end of the times of the nations.
the generation mentioned only applies to the first strand since jesus refers to them as: this generation and it was indeed in its time that jerusalem was ruined, about 40 years later.

It certainly appears that way Greendawn. At Matt. 23:34 Jesus is condemning the Jewish leaders for ignoring the message he brought them. He described how they treated and contiued to treat those sent to them by God and warned them that the price would be extracted from that generation. I doubt the Disciples were thinking thousands of years down the road when they asked the question because he'd just warned them that the Temple would be destroyed, something quite incomprehensible to them. So they were interested in the when and how the things he warned of would take place. He was primarily answering that question and meant that genenration.
Many scholars, not just the JWs see a prophecy in that which goes beyond the events of that genenration. The $64,000 question is which aspects of his answers are indeed prophetic of our time or later, if any. I am not going to hazzard an answer to that question because I don't know. All that can be said is that anyone interested in that aspect of things would do well to do their research and draw their own conclusions. That is all anyone can do.
