I seem to remember that a few folks over on e-watchman's site reported that they were Df'd or Da'd after inquiring about it.

i try to keep up with discussion on this forum, but i missed the threads about the new policy on the announcement of disfellowshipping and disassociation.

so excuse me if i am covering old ground.

the new "organized to do jehovah's will" book stated that in future announcements of disfellowshipping and disassociation would follow the same formulation: "****** ****** is no longer one of jehovah's witnesses".

There must be alot more who are not going away quietly than in former times. What other reason could there be to make this change unless it is to hide such a movement out? They might be scared of the freinds finding out that the leadership is no longer in firm control of the situation and many are leaving on their own hook instead of being put out by their precious JCs.

When you left the JW's, did you keep all your books & magazines?

i had a collection of older publications almost second to none.

along with the 30-year publications index, i felt invincible in the research department.. then i got disfellowshipped and divorced, and my ex kept them all.

" i couldn't tell her "for research" because that would have sounded like i was going to write a book exposing jw's, which would have made things even worse.

Mine are boxed up right now because I don't have the shelf space for them. My collection goes all the way back to Russell's day and includes a few extras like a pristine copy of "Faith on the March" By Macmillan. Recently my daughter-in-law approached my wife to try to get us to give my books to some "needy" congregation, but I am not going to do that. I figure they might come in handy later on if I continue down the road I seem to be going. ;-)

What movies make you think of the Borg?...

i was watching a great sci-fi movie the other day (chronicles of riddick) and there was a phrase in the movie that jumped out at me.

a soldier was being promoted and he said the phrase "obedience without question, loyalty till underverse comes".

i thought "wow, just replace underverse with armageddon and that sound just like the witnesses".

I haven't seen The village, I was told it wasn't so good. One that made my jaw hit the ground was not a movie, but a TV series, Babylon 5. I'll never forget Bester, a psy-corp leader who frequently intoned "the Corp is mother, the corp is father." The way the Psy-corp was portraid, I felt that an ex-JW had to have been on the writing staff.

thank you for your inquiries regarding the barbara anderson vs. watchtower tennessee appellate court hearing, which took place on thursday, april 14, 2005. accompanied by steve and joy imhof, from panama city beach, florida, and our attorney, jerre hood, from winchester, tennessee, we drove to nashville to attend the 1:00 p.m. scheduled appellate hearing.

this hearing was requested last year by defendants in the case, and they are: the numerous corporations of watchtower bible and tract society; watchtower spokespersons, j. r. brown, and david semonian, and certain elders of the manchester, tn congregation of jws.

Thanks for the update Ms. Anderson. My wife was among the victims of the WTBTS policies (silenced in the 1960s), so I've been watching how the whole issue is playing out in the courts.

That is one of the things that bugs me about the org. They do cover up a lot of child abuse that goes on. I personally know one lady, who was raised as a JW, who was molested as a young teenager. Not only did the elders refuse to believe her, they ordered her to stay quiet.

i know it's not the lightest of topics but the current news coverage of the pope's final hours made me wonder if i'd face things as calmly as he is reported to be doing.

i don't have his faith, or any faith anymore, but i can see how for a true believer that would be a source of strength.. the thing is, a lot of us thought we'd never die.

do you really comprehend what a truly massive mind-fuck that is?

The evidence AGAINST evolution

this is a thread for those that have done some research and concluded that evolution is not how various species came to exist.. have you done the research?

do you believe that species exist as a result of god's direct creation?

Another thing that makes it a little hard for creationists to articulate their postion well is that they just aren't being allowed into graduate programs in the natural sciences on this side of the pond. The few who do make it through the cracks find themselve weeded-out pretty quickly if they are discovered. As you pointed out, evolution gets the same kind of devotion as any religious doctrine, and since the evolutionists now control the scientific community, they enforce conformitee to their views with the same zeal that characterizes fanatical religionists. Thus, we had the spectacle of an editor of a respected scientific magazine being castigated for allowing an article on scientific design to appear in that magazine.

I'll admit that my area of expertise is not in biology. It is in the social sciences. For that reason I do not have the wide-ranging knowledge of biology itself that some here claim.

Funky, since you miss my point entirely when I pointed out that you where engaging in innapropriate comments on the issue (the flat-earth thing etc...) I'll confine my comments to a rebuttal of the facts which I am going to take a little time to prepare. However, I will point out that, while such comments may make you feel superior, they certainly do not bolster you case.

The New World Translation and Honesty

after having researched my beliefs of 45+ years, finding so much was really different than what the bible context really taught, i decided to "read" the bible for for the first time to see what it really was saying, taking off the "blinders" of the wt.

i began reading the greek scriptures first.

i used the new world translation, knowing if we were to ever reach our grown children, i would need to use that translation to prove anything.

One verse that I almost never see mentioned that was obviously rendered in a manner to uphold the WTBTS line of authority is Gal. 6:1:

6 Brothers, even though a man takes some false step before he is aware of it, YOU who have spiritual qualifications try to readjust such a man in a spirit of mildness, as you each keep an eye on yourself, for fear you also may be tempted

The use of "you who have spiritual qualifications" in place of "you who are spiritual" ( humeis hoi pneumatikoi [Wescott & Hort as found in the Kingdom Interlinear, 1985 ed.]) does alter the sense of the passage in a way that bolsters the authority of the WTBTS hierarchy, or elders.
