Impressive Elsewhere!
I don't doubt the leadership is projection, after all, they are running a business. I imagine the tightening up and the 2035 number are all related to that. Unfortunately for them, the factors AlanF menyioned are in play. That is going to make for rough going!

Projected growth of the Watchtower Society
by Elsewhere ini took the growth figures from 1945 through 2005 and use the past growth rates to predict the future rates and this is what i got.... by 2010 the growth rate will reach 0 and after that the average number of publishers will start to go down.
their average number of publishers should stop rising at about 6.6 million members and by 2025 they should be back to 5 million.
it took them 122 years to reach 5 million publishers and it will only take 10 years to go back to 5 million publishers after they peak out at 6.6 million in 2010. .

The warnings were TRUE
by unique1 inyou know all the myspace.com warnings that were on here about elders on a witch hunt searching for active jw's blogs and using them against them?
well the elders didn't search but an old aquaintenance did.
she was disfellowshipped for her blogs concerning all the casual sex she was having.

Greetings Unique!
Life has a steep learning curve. We all encounter unintended consequences on our journey. I won't repeat the old saying about it since it is a bit insulting. Just get back on the journey and learn from the experience. Nice to have you around.

I think many of you will return to the religion one day
by free2beme ini don't mean this as an insult, more of a life experience thing.
i saw a lot of people leave in my years there and a lot were angry with the religion and the people, and some even protested the kingdom halls and wrote things in the newspapers.
a lot though, came back in time, as it was just the comfort zone they felt at ease in.

Anything can happen. The relationship with the organization is much like the relationship a battered woman has with the batterer. They often go back because they do get something out of the relationship. It is a co-dependency. Remember that longtime JWs are really quite unprepared to function outside of the organization because it is everything in their lives. The uncertainty outside can be quite hard for a JW. Yes, free2beme, some may well go back. But many won't!

Simply put, the WTBTS joined the UN as a nongovernmental organization, or NGO. That was back in 1991. For ten years the WTBTS participated in many UN conferences and otherwise used its status to get certain things done. They also published UN propaganda in the Awake magazine which millions of JWs distributed throughout the world. In 2001, a newspaper in Brittain found out about the membership and prepared an expose. When the WTBTS found out about it, they hurridley resigned their membership and went into spin control mode.
The excuse they give for the membership is that it was required in order to gain access to the UN library. Look up the links the others provided and judge for yourself.

I used to furtively open other kids sandwiches and put a lot of pepper in them to burn their mouths when they ate them.
Damn GreenDawn, where you when I went to highschool? I like my food hot!
I was the settled one in my family at school. I had my fun at night when I stayed out at night. My brother, on the on the other hand, was a real live wire. One time he took a home-made smoke-stink bomb and set it off right in front of the air intake to the air-conditioning unit of the principle's office. He was rolling on the ground laughing about it when the principle came out mad as a bull. He'll still tell you to this day that the whipping was worth it! Try that now, and it is off to prison you go!

Kissing
by MindGhost indoes jehovah witnesses believe that kissing between man and women before marriage is allowed by the bible?.
the type[s] i have in mind is the kissing between a boyfriend-girlfriend couple [intimate kiss on the lips] or kissing like 'making out' on one night or so.
regarding other types, if jw [&others] think the bible has a different stand, please tell.. thanks in advance,

This one is fun folks!
Thanks for starting it. I think the answer is that it depends on what congregation one goes to as to whether one can openly kiss. Pretty much all of my friends did alot more than kiss prior to their wedding. In fact, I can't think of any I know for sure who didn't have premarital sex. My bride wanted to keep it pretty clean since she'd messed up during her courtship with her first husband. But we did kiss.

What would have become of mankind if Jesus Mother Mary had rejected God?
by booker-t ini have always wondered about this since i was a little kid.
since jehovah gives people free will and does not use "robots" what would have happened if mary had told jehovah god "no i don't want to bear any children "never"?
would jehovah had picked another woman to give birth to jesus or would jehovah had to rewrite the old testament and delete the entire book of isaiah that prophecies "a virgin given birth to a savior"?

He would've probably found another. Mary wasn't the only descendent of David around at the time.

The REAL story behind the "Faithful Slave" doctrine
by M.J. ini've posted a version of this before, and didn't get much of a response.
but doggone it, i'm gonna try again, but a little better presented.
the official doctrine regarding the "faithful discreet slave" is that it is the remnant of anointed christians was selected by christ several years after his return in 1914. as stated by the watchtower magazine:

Yes BB, Rutherford promoted the identification of CTR as the FDS for a reason. After CTR died, Rutherford moved to take over the WTBTS. For awhile his authority was not unquestioned. By promoting the CTR=FDS doctrine, he linked his own authority to CTR since he also promoted at the time the belief that CTR as the appointed "slave" was actually running the WTBTS, from heaven through him, on the Lord's behalf! When he no longer needed those teachings, they were tossed aside. The man had no scruples!

A 1975 story
by TooBad TooSad inwhile i was in high school in the mid 60's i was told that the end was so near that i would not get to graduate from high school so i should not be concerned about being drafted due to the war in vietnam.
well i got drafted but did not pass my physical due to a medical problem.. i then considered go to school in the late 60's to enter the medical field.
i was encouraged by the elders not to do this because the end is so near and why get schooling for a profession that you will not need in a few years?
