  AUSTRALIA | Jehovah's Witnesses and Watchtower Society Appear Before Child Abuse Inquiry | Thursday 11 April, 2013

  jehovah's witnesses say it is not their responsibility to report child sex abuse to police unless mandatory reporting legislation is in place.. a victorian inquiry on thursday heard that when a jehovah's witness leader hears allegations of abuse they are directed immediately to contact the society's legal department to check their obligations under state law.. jehovah's witness legal counsel rachel van witsen said elders were not expected to know their legal obligations.. "this is done to ensure elders fully comply with any legal requirements that may be applicable in the state in which they reside," she said.. "in victoria if there was mandatory reporting the immediate advice would be to report that immediately.".

  the society's director terrence o'brien said the decision to take the allegations to police lay with the victim.. "without mandatory reporting we don't feel that as ministers of religion that's our obligation to do that," mr o'brien said.. however, the organisation would encourage the victim to report it and would co-operate fully with police, he said.. ms van witsen said elders would make an exception if they felt the child was threatened.. "we would report that to appropriate authorities," she told the inquiry.. "we're about stopping child abuse.".

  I am reviewing some information on Child Abuse and the way that this is handled today 2015.

  Has there been any changes in the directives to elders in how Child Abuse reports and actual cases are handled?

  It used to be ring the legal department and handle as much in house as possible? Or do elders now mandatory report Child Abuse?

  One day assembly

  at a recent one day assembly i walked away with the thought that the wtbts sure does not like witnesses who have the opportunity to make a good living.

  there were, in one day, three experiences of witnesses who turned down "6 figure salaries" because there would be some traveling involved and some meetings would be missed as well as missing family worship night.

  i thought it strange that the exact phrase was used of "6 figure salary".

  Here where I live, we had to sub-divide the land the hall was on, and sell the spare block of land. So we had to get the kh land title back from the society. While it was here, the solicitor that was handling the transaction asked about the hall title and what to do with it, we said send it back to headquarters and he was reluctant to do it. He said we could hold it as a committee ourselves.... that would have upset the hen house wouldn't it!

  Question related to the digestive tract of carnivores

  i was raised as a jw from about the age of 2, my parents were baptized when i was 5 years old.. i always liked the thought in the song about a young boy leading all of these once viscous animals, that are now tame.... in some of the reading i have done, the digestive tracts of carnivores..meat eaters has a highly acidic stomach, with a short small intestine and a short large intestine [bowel].

  a lot of apes are frugivores [fruit eaters] less acid, long small intestine and longer bowel.

  the question: did god recreate these animals [carnivores] and change their digestive tracts after the noachian flood so that they could eat meat [other creatures] as the jw's believe that these animals only ate straw [herbivores] before the flood and that he will restore their original herbivore digestive tract after armageddon?.

  A while after we stopped attending [10 years this year] my wife's bother and wife went over to Thailand or somewhere where there are tigers that you can walk around and pat [obviously heavily drugged] and they were telling everyone how great it will be in the kingdom as they will be able to do this on a world wide scale and that these tigers ate grass.... It was just ridiculous!

  Somehow, I think that carnivores were created as such and that they will always be that way. Sure my cat eats grass for the sake of it's stomach but it really wants meat NOT veges or straw!

  at the international convention last week i caught up with my old congregation and asked about the young ones...there were 2 answers.

  1. they flat out left got a boyfriend etc.

  and 2. havent seen them for awhile meaning they faded or went off the grid so as not to be disfellowshipped.

  The total of jw's in Australia hasn't really grown much in the last 10 years, there were a bit over 64,000 when we stopped attending, and it would seem to still be that now [?] more leaving through the backdoor than are coming in the front..... ;-) good!

  It sounds like a lot of couples who have left are similar in that one checks things out still and they other isn't that bothered. We are the same, I drop in here every now and then to see what may be going on, I feel that it gives us a heads up as to what might be going on with our still IN relatives and why they are doing what they are doing or treating us coldly... My wife could go without hearing an ything.

  It will be nice when it doesn't matter at all. We have been "out" nearly 10 years [faded] She was quick to see the crap, I had been working for about 20 years to be a ms then elder and it took a bit to back away from that... there were a few arguments then, but now no arguing about jw stuff.

  Great comments, and thanks for the honesty by all the other posters on this topic....
