This looks like a Scientology video. They're starting to morph into them.

2018 Courage Convention video invitation
by Listener inthe video invitation for the 2018 convention is just creepy.
i thought it was some parody at first as it seems 'dark'.it begins with a young man being pushed whilst standing at his locker and the voice over says that 'in critical times we need courage more than ever'.
next, comes a clip of a male putting his hand on the shoulder of a female worker, the look she gives him would be enough to give him nightmares for the next year.

Would You Go To A Memorial Service For A JW )if you were no longer attending the KH)?
by minimus insome of my old jw friends are sickly and getting on in age.
so far, i’ve only gone to my mother’s memorial and have avoided the kingdom hall altogether.... your thoughts please?.

I said that I would never step foot inside a Kingdom Hall. But I just recently attended a funeral service for a family friend. I felt extremely out of place but I was paying my respects to the family. They looked up scriptures on their phones and played a song with words about the resurrection at the end that appeared on 2 giant screens. I haven't been to a KH in years. It was very "1984".

Kleenex Head Covering
by jwundubbed ingrowing up a woman in the cult was pretty bleak.
most of the adult women i knew were either depressed sad women or an embarrassment to me.
i was typical kid in that regard.

I remember one sister who put a diaper on top of her head to conduct the meeting for field service. A regular diaper....not a cloth one. How is that in any way showing respect for the headship arrangement, much less for yourself? We all thought that she looked like a complete fool! But she thought that she was obeying the arrangement.

Here's something I always wondered. How come sisters don't need to wear a head covering when commenting or giving talks? They would be in the presence of baptized males. The longer that I'm out, the crazier all of that seems to me. And I really believed it.

Damon Wayans was apparently at 2017 Annual Meeting
by Richard_I infrom this post on reddit.com/r/exjw, damon wayans was at the 2017 annual meeting.
the wayans were raised as jw's but i don't think any of them stated.. strange to see him here.
this is the same man who defended bill cosby from all the sex abuse allegations..

Wonder if he knows Serena Williams? 😏 These celebrities are not held to the same standards as the regular rank and file.

I just posted this to FB. I hope this helps in getting our family members out. If they watch this ( which is a big if ) it might put a small grain of doubt in their minds. That's a start.

Question...
by ironsnake656 inwhen you were an active member in the jwland, did you expect to receive any kind of help from a brother/sister, but they did not help you?
when i was in the jwland, i expected and was my belief that any brother/sister will help you in time of need, distress or trouble, because we were part of a "lovely organization".
but countless of times when i needed and asked for help, nobody from the org helped me.

No. Because we did not hold any position in their club. They will bend over backwards for those who do. But it was all talk for us. Promises that we never kept. Then the awkward avoidance because they didn't come thru. It's all about appearances for them.

JWs MUST Accept The Watchtower Teachings EVEN When They Are Wrong!
by minimus inisn't it unbelievable that a jehovah's witness must accept whatever the organization says or they can be disfellowshipped??
unless they tell you that their understanding has changed, you cannot believe anything unless they say it's ok. .
many years ago i questioned them about their ridiculous view that whenever the word "heart" was mentioned, it was a literal blood filled organ.

WingCommander we had someone give a talk years ago and holding up his bible to the audience when he said that "if the slave tells me this bible is purple, it's purple". My husband and I just looked at each other like wtf. That was just one of the things that made us walk. CULT!

I love heavy metal!!!
by ironsnake656 inprobably you noticed that my avatar is a photo of steve harris, bassist of iron maiden.
i have quite a few years that i started to listen this kind of music, even when i was in the jwland.
although it was a "no-no" in the borders of jwland, i knew a lot of brothers and sisters that listened and loved this kind of music.

In 1989 we lived in Cleveland ohio. I remember a "brother" giving a talk on what was bad. He actually played 3 metal songs over the speakers. One was Ozzy's Bark at the moon. He said "would you listen to this music as a JW"? We were all banging our heads in the back row. Years later, I remember thinking that if that music was so bad where did he get it from and why was it played at the kh. He had to be an undercover apostate. I wonder where he is now?
