Has anyone read this guys books or heard his radio interview? He was a devout Muslim and a member of the PLO but has removed himself from all of that. He gave a lot of very interesting insight into the thinking and growth of the Islamic fundamentalist communities. It is his belief that because of the teachings in all of the Middle Eastern countries - things are going to get far worse than they are. He has a book out 'Why I left Jihad'..has anyone read it? sammieswife.

America is the only country in the industrialized world which does not provide some form of national health care.
Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Italy, Spain, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Luxemburg, Belgium, Finland, United Kingdom, Denmark, Australia, and New Zealand all provide national health care for their citizens. Some of these countries also have privatized health care plans for the wealthy minorities. Singapore has parallel national health care and privatized health care systems. America is unique in not providing national health care for its citizens. Article 25 of the 1948 U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.” It also states, “Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock shall enjoy the same social protection.” In the United States, access to health care is a privilege. In the rest of the world, it is a birth right.

Oh my goodness SammieLee! Your world must have come crashing down around you big time!
Lets just say shunning = dead. Buried. Cremated. When you grow up in the 'truth' with absolutely no infiltration of any other people except Witnesses, the job has been well done. Only one time can I recall actually being able to watch cartoons at home as a kid on a Saturday morning and that was so nice - every Saturday as far back as I recall (before first grade), it was get dressed, some sisters would pick us up and we would be out in service for hours. It never varied. You did not talk back. You did not fidget. You did not socialize. Every summer vacation was spent in service full time. The long term damage done to a child raised in a cult is enormous but you don't see it until you are out. The tragedy of disfellowshipping is tenfold because once you are out, not only are you truly alone without any skills of any kind, but you are forced to look at your life, your family, your friends and your faith and any one of the realizations you have to accept can destroy you. So many people cannot understand the impact of being in a cult and then being out - and for those of us born into it, surrounded by it, breathing it in and living it - the outcome can be tragic as the number of breakdowns and suicides can attest. Our lives were decided for us - we never had a choice. The greatest tragedy of all comes to roost when you have to look in the mirror and admit you were conned - that everything your were, that you are, is only based on your inclusion in the cult. It is not about God, it was always about the Watchtower but you don't see that while you're caught up in it. I may have parents, siblings and children somewhere on paper, but they are not my family.

Bush Administration tax cut denies military families increase in child tax credit. The families of 262,000 children of military personnel do not receive the child tax credit increase because the plan fails to cover taxpaying families with incomes between $10,500 and $26,625. According to The Washington Post, the House version of the Bush Administration plan "wouldn't help many of those serving in Iraq." One solider who will not benefit is Army Specialist Shoshana Johnson, the soldier and single mother who was wounded twice in the same convoy as Jessica Lynch. ("Ex-POW's Family Accuses Army of Double Standard on Benefit," Washington Post, October 24, 2003; "The New Senate Child Credit Legislation - What It Does and Does Not Do," Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, June 25, 2003; "Whose Child Is Left Behind," Children's Defense Fund, July 23, 2003)
Bush Administration opposed plan to give National Guard and Reserve Members access to health insurance. Despite the war efforts of America's National Guard and Reserve Members, the Bush Administration announced in October 2003 its formal opposition to give the 1.2 million Guard and Reserve members the right to buy health care coverage through the Pentagon's health plan. One out of every five Guard members lacks health insurance. ("Bush Opposes Health Plan for National Guard," Gannett News Service, October 23, 2003)

How many of us had the perfect JW family?
Mine was. We were out in service by the time we were in first grade. Never drank, no smoking, no sex, no dating, no foul language, no school activities - part time jobs, pioneered, only socialization were those in the 'truth'. Perfect family. We all got married in the 'truth. Sisters husband was an elder. Brother is an Elder. I was an Elder. We all married other JW's - no association (even family) with worldly people. We did not take vacations except to attend DC's. All of our discussions revolved around the 'truth'. We moved to 'where the need was greatest'. Kids were home schooled to remain strong in the 'truth'. Every moment of every day was given over to what I believed was the 'truth' thus when I left I was destroyed by my entire family. Realizing that the 'truth' is not the 'truth' and nothing more than a lie based on a thousand lies and callous manipulation was devastating. Realizing that you gave your life up for nothing was devastating. Realizing that you had the perfect family only as long as you held the illusion was devastating. Realizing that you raised your kids believing in the same 'truth' and that by doing so you might have ruined their chances of having a semblance of a normal life is devastating. I had what appeared to be the perfect family - I actually didn't. I'm far happier now but not without anger at being misled and not without some bitterness of a life filled with lost opportunity. Those feelings don't rule my life - but they do well up in me from time to time....

Interesting Amy..its good to hear what goes on inside from someone who actually worked in the industry. Thanks for your insight. BTW - an interesting point was made that those with health insurance actually spend 2-3 times more year than those with no insurance and that debunks the myth that the insured waste more. Could this be primarily from situations like you just mentioned I wonder? sammieswife.

The problem ISN't Healthcare. The problem is LAWYERS. When we combine the lawyers into the mix healthcare costs sky rocket. Australia doesn't have that problem. As much
You are right - but millions should not be penalized because of one profession. This issue has been addressed in many of the reports and what has been noted is that the number of lawsuits in the USA exceeds that of any other country that has national healthcare. The belief or rationale is that the laws in all of those countries are different regarding this issue and the availability of service itself, reduces and/or eliminates the need for as many law suits. I'm not saying there are never any - but the numbers are extremely minimal by comparison. If I'm not mistaken, Bush has already passed or put in motion, limits on lawsuits from malpractice etc, so that issue will have cleared itself when national health care is implemented. swife.

I terminated all healthcare for all my employees - why? Because it was too expensive. Force it on us in the form of nationalized healthcare and watch unemployment double overnight - outsourcing will soar like never before. Someone has to pay for it. The problem is so many fools think
I'm not understanding why you think unemployment would double. You would not be obligated to pay for any employee health insurance - a national system does that for every person. This also means that people would have the freedom to accept other jobs regardless of the amount of or type of benefits they offer. Right now the biggest joke in the single womans world is (and it's not really a joke more of a criteria) forget the looks - ask him for proof of his health insurance. National healthcare is paid in part through employer health tax and employee taxes and the tax amounts are less than what employers and employees currently pay. Jobs are already at stake in companies that can no longer pay employee healthcare premiums and many are already lost because of it - jobs can be saved implementing a NHS simply because the drain on the employer will be lessened. Talks are already in the works in some of the biggest cities to force employers to provide health insurance for all employees - including part time employees - think about what that will do. At least with national healthcare, the employee would already be covered and he/she would be paying for that care through their taxes. That makes them accountable and responsible just like everyone else. The employer would not be bankrupt trying to find a way to fund the healthcare for all their employee's. swife.
Quote from the House of Labor -
Toyota is opening a new plant in Canada, bypassing southern states like Alabama and Mississippi which offered as much as $250 million in subsidies, in favor of Canada.
Partly this is due to the embarassing fact that Toyota thinks the education system in those US states is so substandard. But a key difference in getting the Toyota plant was the taxpayer-funded health care system in Canada, which saves the company $4 to $5 per hour per worker.
PS...I don't believe the education thing myself but the issue is the cost savings....

Sorry donkey...I believe you would be fighting a losing battle. The UAW has contributed 100 million toward this campaign...the only reason that it hasn't gone through before now is because the unions (IMO) weren't backing it. Now they are - lots of them. They understand that economically, it is the only way the US is going to survive. Why? Because the cost of health insurance is crippling the companies. It costs millions less in benefits in every country where national healthcare is in place because the cost of the healthcare is paid through taxes and those taxes are less than the amount the companies have to pay now for private insurance. With more companies being told they will pay for employee insurance (think Walmart) those companies will look to the bottom dollar and guess what? they will donate and promote national care to avoid those measures. So sorry - I'd sign up now and be happy with it - there are a lot of other issues you can take on....sammieswife.
