I think its in your best interest in spirtual growth to broaden out in your views of the world and look into other takes on the Bible. As witnesses we were never allowed to think of the Bible as being anything but the literal inspired word of God. A great book to read is 'Who Wrote the Bible?', you can order it from Amazon and read some reviews.

Anyone like me where you still believe in MOST of their doctrines?
by inquirer inlike i don't like that un involvment, record keeping.
i don't know what to think about the paedophile stuff, because you could accuse the catholic church of that too.
but apart from those things i still believe that god's name is jehovah, his son is jesus, no trinity, and he died on a torture stake... i love reading the new world translation, i believe it's the best one, but i love reading other translations too!

JW young people...on the move...to where?
by Gill inmy experience as a jw teenager was total repression and control from my parents and i know that the majority of my friends at that age in the congregations suffered the same.. now...what's happening?!.
i come home and find a regular full time pioneer smooching with my non jw son on the sofa.. i"m reliably told that jw youngsters are in the local pub after each meeting and have to be thrown out at chuck out time.. they seem to behave in a far worse way that some non bible believing youngsters that i know.. are they finally feeling their feet and the wtbts due a huge exodus in the next few years?.
i'm slightly embarrassed at the behaviour of some of these youngsters when i'm told what they've been seen getting up to.. or am i just getting old?

I think the deal is that the kids are a product of their parents naivety. They are raised in an environment where EVERYTHING is right or wrong, good and bad. Everything is 'thus' and 'therefore'. The whole world is set out for them and everything is already nicely figured out. Any experimenting or free thought is 'bad' so low self esteem is rampent because they have to fight against their own brains to be 'good'. I've seen the results of this shit with my family and all of my old witness friends. Their growth is totally stunted because of that organization. The only ones that can turn out half way normal are those that break away from it early or have parents that arent very 'strong' in the 'truth'. Its really sad to see old friends and family intelectually stunted because of the ignorance of buying into some shitty cult.

:The problem with all that is some think that's how it is in the "world" all the time,so when they can't keep up that lifestyle they return to their vomit-WTS-and try to be happy.
That is just it. Its so drilled into the witnesses heads that all the world is is partying and getting wasted that when we would go out for a good time that is exactly what ended up happening, over and over again. Shitfaced, guilt, shitfaced, guilt. You had two choices of groups to associate with in the hall: the uber-witness freaks that had no grasp on reality whatsoever or the quasi-witness mush-for-brains that are not quite bright enough to figure out how fucked up the organization really is. They are always on the fence, trapped. They usually get married young and work with other witnesses, so leaving just isnt a viable option. Nothing to look forward to but perpetual ignorance.

Your opinions.....please!
by Gill ini'm asking your opinion today and probably venting my spleen a little as well, i'm afraid.. we all agree, i've noticed that shunning, for the jw reasons is wrong and even downright wicked.. however, my husband will no longer speak to or acknowledge his parents, after years of being a very good, infact, too good a son to them.. i posted a while ago about the ongoing problem with our jw families.
we wanted to take in my husbands very elderly grandfather but his parents would not allow it because we are faded jws.
we found a letter while reading through grandpa's cards in which, my mother-in-law had slandered us terribly and my family.

KM in 1974 praising people for selling all their stuff and pioneering?
by ithinkisee insomeone on this site mentioned they got a km off ebay that praised those that sold all their belongings and preached.. does anyone know which km that was?.
interesting, when going through the society's cd-rom i noticed that the drama for the district convention in 1975 was about noah's ark and was something along the lines of "there's still time left!
" (i'm paraphrasing).. -dm

DA'ing coming up, to speak out now or not?
by meat pie inhi there, i know its up to me in the end, but just wondering, what would most of you do?
my da'ing could be tonight, should i take the opportunity (before they can no longer speak to me ) to tell a few jw's that i am being da'd for telling the truth, or not to bother.
does it matter anyway.

The 'Thinking'
by GetBusyLiving inbefore i had disassociated myself i went through a period of missing meetings (go figure) and i was lurking around sites like this for quite a while, reading ex-witness books, and doing a lot of reseach into the bible itself.
i got an email from my best friend that was in my hall who was wondering what was up and if i was 'discouraged'.
i told him that i had been reading up on the wtbts and that i had been feeling like shit because i wasn't sure what i was doing with my life, still hanging onto some dream my parents had that was demonstrably messed up.

I tell you, reading this shit really pisses me off. Some assholes put themselves on a soap box puking up dates for God to save us, taking advantage of the emotions and spirtuality of nice people, coercing people to sacrifice their retirements. Its a form of fucking rape.

Three of the most important question you will ever ask yourself:
by Chance inat some point everyone asks these questions?
what is the meaning of life?
why has god let terrible things happen?
