Someone on this site mentioned they got a KM off eBay that praised those that sold all their belongings and preached.
Does anyone know which KM that was?
Interesting, when going through the Society's CD-ROM I noticed that the drama for the District convention in 1975 was about Noah's Ark and was something along the lines of "There's Still Time Left!" (I'm paraphrasing).

Now, thirty years hence, the JWs AND the Watchtower both say that "Nobody forced them to sell their homes, it was their own decision."
While that is true, it is not all the truth. It leaves out the high anticipation of the JWs at the time that armageddon HAD to take place by 1975. This anticipation at that time is now downplayed or outrightly denied by current JWs.
But it cannot be denied by those who saw it and axperienced it during the 60s and 70s.

There were a couple of local families who did this in my congregation. I was close to one of the families: They sold their home in 1973, started renting in a lower socioeconomic part of the city and began to full time pioneer. The sister talked me out of buying a new suit and accompanied me to a second-hand store where I purchased an over-sized, mishapen suit and trousers for about $30.00. I felt so proud. I remember expalining to my non-JW paternal grandmother and I will credit her with confining her verbal reaction to "Oh really. That's nice"; but I swear I caught her rolling her eyes.
I learnt heaps from this experience. What stands above all else is how absolutely convinced we were that THIS WAS IT - THE END WAS COMING - IT FELT SO CLOSE YOU COULD FEEL IT - THE MEETINGS WERE ELECTRIC.
What a lesson for me: Something can feel absolutely real, inevitable and beyond doubt and end up being just a pathetic figment of our desperate imaginations fuelled by religious leaders who should know better. What else stands out, looking back, is the hilarity of it all. The only genuine thing that emerged was my dear departed grandmother's admirable restraint. She really was way to restrained - but she undoubtedly knew it would be hopeless to say anything to me, God bless her insightful heart.
I tell you, reading this shit really pisses me off. Some assholes put themselves on a soap box puking up dates for God to save us, taking advantage of the emotions and spirtuality of nice people, coercing people to sacrifice their retirements. Its a form of fucking rape.
All these years later 1975 is still a sore spot for me. At a bad time in my life I bought into the hype and got baptized in 1973, shortly after I graduated from college. I gave up a shot at graduate school, but made up for it in 1982. Those decisions were mine and I will own them.
When will the GB own the fact that I made those decisions based on what they, claiming to be God's mouthpiece, told me?
people who look inside from the out are reassured that the wtbs didnt " force" anyone to do anything.
but we who lived as jw's know what the words " strongly encourage" and " what a fine example" mean. it means if you dont do whats encouraged you fall short. another "out" the wtbs protects itself with is " its a consciense matter" and everyone knows if your conscience chooses wrong ( that being against former wt policy) you open yourself up to be " marked", "priveleges removed" or even "disfellowshipment".
i wonder if babelfish has a translator from wtbs to english lol
