yes, again... after reading numerous posts on this site and doing some research on my own, i have a strong feeling that my whole belief will soon stand or fall with the understanding of 'this generation'.. matthew 24:3 .."tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?".

matthew 24:7 for nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.. matthew 24:34 truly i say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.. .

(Narkissos) I'm afraid all those "prophecies" appeared as such only when the OT was re-read from a Christian perspective. Actually this Christian reading of the OT was an essential part in the writing of the NT: the texts about Jesus' place of birth (only Matthew and Luke) etc. were actually the result of this new reading of the older Jewish sacred texts.

Narkissos... are you saying they read the OT and THEN wrote the NT based on what they read in the OT?

Thank you all, I have gotten some very useful replies. Thank you for the time you have taken to answer, it is very much appreciated.

After reading every post carefully, I must admit that the opinions vary.. and I am still confused. I am going to take some time to review all the comments and do some reading up on writes that were suggested in this thread.

I was also wondering if anyone had any comments to the bible quote of 2Peter 3:1-9, posted by leolaila, a few posts above this one?

(AlanF)I have no idea, but the fact that they didn't is indisputable. The obvious conclusion is that, having made a bunch of false prophecies, Jesus was a false prophet.

Okay, but then what do we do with the prophecies regarding the Messiah? Like the time and place of his birth, his line of descend, his betrayal for 30 pcs of silver, etc.. isn't it true that Christians say that the fulfillment of the prophecies about the Messiah as written in the Hebrew scriptures are proof that he really was the messiah?

after reading this thread, i started wondering whether online dating sites work well.

has anyone had any success with dating sites?

if so, which one?

Never tried it and it would probably scare the crap right out of me. We hear so many stories about on line dating gone wrong. It has been confirmed by different sources that over 50% of people on 'dating sites' are actually married.

I did get together with two different people I had met on line, but not on a dating site per se. The first one had 3 girlfriends (I accidentally found out), and the second one was sooooo deep in debts, he was a compulsive spender and loved E-bay. All this happened last winter, and it made me realize how happy I am with just myself and the cat.

(pennycandy) My belief has been that the Bible is perfectly clear about the things that are important for us to understand. All the other things are up for interpretation. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to understand all the prophecies and riddles in the Bible, though many may have an intellectual curiosity.
That being said, I think it's accepted by basic christianity that Christ began ruling when he ascended to heaven. During Jesus' entire ministry, his disciples were expecting his power to be on earth, and that he will be a very literal king, and bring about a new "system of things", so the questions they asked him were referring to when his kingdom would be established right there, before their eyes. They just never "got it" when Jesus kept telling them his kingdom wouldn't be of this world.

I agree that the bible is clear about the things we really need to know. The only reason why the 1914 date is so important to me is because my belief in the WTS might stand or fall with it. And yes, there is also some pure curiosity involved.

You also gave me a view on 'the new system of things' I had never considered. Will have to give that a lot of thought. Thank you.

when did you first realise the society wouldn't allow women to be an ms or an elder?

i remember being seven or eight and playing dolls with an elder's daughter in her bedroom.

my doll was meeting up with her doll at the convention after not seeing each other for a long time.

(Bikerchic) he,hee my daughter got married by a woman pastor. My JW mom and sisters after the wedding no less wondered if it was legit cuz a woman married them.

we're getting ready for vacation so i'm doing that odd-ball stuff that needs to be done.

i'm walking into the bedroom with my suitcase, catch it on the doorframe, and it puches me in the gut and knocks me to the floor.

my gut and ribs are still sore 3 hours later!

Have you noticed an oddity at indoor conventions?

every time i've attended a dc in an indoor arena, i 've noticed a u.s. flag hanging on the rafters or somewhere prominently displayed.

of course it is a permanent fixture of the arena.

anyways, since national flags are symbols of idolatry.

Yes, I've noticed flags as well.

Worse, we usually have our conventions at a place called the 'War memorial Center' , I always found that quite peculiar.

Now, they are building a huge convention center inside a local casino. I know that JW's are talking about it, and wondering if our future conventions will be held there, because it would be so much closer to home. I'm really curious as to wether they will be going for it or not.

Thank you all again for your time. I believe I do have some 'new light' which came to me last night while reading Matthew 24 once again, just before going to bed. However, I have to run out the door now for a 11 hour work shift, will be back to reply properly after work tonight.
