Only Jehovah's Witnesses

i'm just new to this internet stuff and am studying with the jehovah's witnesses at present.please don't take my lack of knowledge as cheek.

i just want to know if it's meant to be only jehovah's witnesses using this site.

i fully intend to become baptised but was wondering if there's any security to prevent people who shouldn't be using the site and are maybe abusing it from doing so.

havent seen the woman i study with since i started posting on here. but i see her on Tuesday, and have a long list...........

Wow Holly, nice going. Please let us know how it went. You might want to start up a thread about it on Tuesday so that I don't miss it. I am very interested. I too was studying with JW's, but stopped a few weeks ago when I discovered this website.

i remember coming home from a meeting one evening in a spiritually heightened mood and seeing all these lights dancing around in the sky.

About three years ago, I had gone on a daytrip in the woods, by myself. At one point, I leaned against a tree to eat a sandwich. Everything was peaceful and quiet around me and I enjoyed the silence enormously. All of a sudden, out of nowhere came a huge BOOM, you have NO idea. The ground was shaking and birds flew up all around me. My ears were ringing, I dropped my sandwich and my legs started shaking quite a bit. I heard animals running away. I stood there, tried to think, but no thought came to mind. Then, the first thought that came to mind was "Oh no, this is the end", the second thought was.. darn, I thought I was alone here, never realized there were so many birds and animals in my immediate vicinity.

When I came home that night, many of my books had fallen off my bookshelf. I made a few phone calls to friends to find out what had happened. Nobody knew, but everybody had heard this very unusual noise, breaking the silence of a calm, sunny day in mid-summer. People talked about it for weeks afterwards. A couple people swore that they had seen a plane coming down, but the rumours remained unconfirmed. There was never anything on the news about that boom. To this day I don't know what happened, but I do know that it was the loudest noise I had ever heard in my life and I don't wish to hear it ever again.

Oh-oh. Yvonne, I came to this site pretty much with the same intentions as you, to meet other JW's and find some fine encouragement. I stopped my bible study about two weeks after registering here and stopped going to the meetings shortly after that.

If you are happy with what you learn and your heart truly tells you that serving Jehovah under supervision of the WTS is what you want to do, then don't read any more on this site. However, do understand that studying with JW's is like walking along very carefully mapped - out roads. Exploring the sideroads that are not on your map is strongly discouraged. Only do it should you feel the need to.

Unforgivable Sin?

i seem to remember back in my jw days, a scripture that said something to the effect that if you publicly denounce jehover, you would never be forgiven of it?

i really want to bring this up to my ever-persistant family as a good reason for me not to come back to meetings and try to be reinstated.

i have already told them that i will never, ever, ever come back, that i don't even believe in god per-se.

Well, I sent him the message on the 27th of January, and he has been on the board since..He was on the board after I asked him in his thread to check his messages. The message still shows in bold, meaning it has net been read.

A question about baptism

this might sound silly, but it is something that bothers me.. for the longest time i had the desire to be baptized as a jw.

recently, after joining this forum and doing a lot of reading around here, i have come to understand that there is a difference between being loyal to jehovah and being loyal to the wts.

if i don't join the wts, then i will never get baptized, but people in the bible clearly got baptized.

(heatmiser) Try the Bible Students.........alot of JW teachings without alot of the controlling bullsh*t. I think that there was a recent thread on this topic (sometime in the last week I think).

Yes, I noticed the link to that site and have been doing a lot of reading on there.

Again, thank you all very much for your time and for your comments, they help a great deal. it is reassuring to know that there are other ways to get baptized than during a convention of JW's. To me, the main problem might be that I don't know anyone (other than JW's), who is actually deeply occupied with religion. I guess I might have to go to a church after all, because, being female, I'd assume that I can't baptize myself?

(Ashton) Heck, you don't even need a church to go get baptized in, just have someone who believes what you believe go do it for you. When my entire family left the truth, my father who was an elder for 17 years baptized the majority of us at the beach. My hubby baptized my mother and me at a 24-hour fitness in their pool. My son, who is 11 asked me the other day about baptism, so we are reading the scriptures on it together and his father will baptize him in our complex's pool this summer. My brother who had no one near him to do it, did it himself at the beach. All of these methods are just as valid in God's eyes at if you went to a church and had it done, maybe even more so.

..yes, but I do notice that it are the men in the family who baptize. This brings up the question if a woman could baptize, but I'm pretty sure I already know tha answer to that one.

Thank you all. You have given me quite useful things to think about.

Garybuss, I was doing some reading on baptism yesterday and indeed the washing away of sin came up. That makes me think that it is useless for parents to get their babies baptized, because the babies are still unaware of sin and are obviously too young to feel repentance. I do have to admit, this is another point where the JW's are right though. See, it are things like that which drew me to the JW in the first place. And now I almost feel as if there is no other place to go.

Heatmiser, I don't think I'm ready to 'belong' to a certain church at this point in time, as I don't know the first thing about churches and what they do. I used to live in Europe where things seemed simple. You lived in a town, there was one church in the middle of town and that's where all the believers went to on Sundays (except for JW's of course). But over here in the US, even a small town has several churches with funny names, like united methodist, redeemed something something, etc..

(Sixofnine,) If it's important to you when all is said and done, come by my place and we'll figure something out.

Intro from new member

this site was recommended to me by someone on another ex-jw site i began frequenting recently.

anyway, i am an ex-jw who has been disfellowshipped for about 7 years now.

i was raised as a jw from the age of 4, didnt take to it until i was befriended by a pioneer who was an elder's wife, and she began a bible study with me because my mom ddnt have time to have bible studies with all of my siblings and me, there are 10 of us.
