(Steve2) I wonder how much of this goes on so that if every single person taking the wine and bread were literally counted with no questions asked, the actual number of memorial partakers would be who knows how much larger.
I totally agree with that. Ask around on this site. I bet that pretty much everyone has seen someone partaking at the memorial. It would be interesting to ask.. is there anyone who has NEVER seen a person partaking at the memorial?
What's more, of the people partaking.. how can the elders decide who is just a bit on the looney side and who is really annointed? Where do they find the right to make that decision?
just dawned on me that i couldn't do my job if not for leaving.
i'm a director of marketing for a telecom company and travel the country constantly, different city and state every three months or so.
part of the job is "having" to take people out for drinks and dinner, etc all the time.
I am a nurse, but worked as a travelling juggler/magician for many years. At the time when I rekindled my study with the JW's I had a regular job, but was still performing magic shows on the side. It was good money. In spite of my insisting that the 'magic' was no more than mere sleight of hand, they insisted I should stop, as 'magic' is dissapproved of in the bible. I did stop and missed out on a fine income, but to this day, I still think that a magic show, based on sleight of hand is just another form of working and making a living. It's not like I was using some dark powers of something. Then, I started to write. Although they never told me straight out, I could tell that this too, was being considered a not-so-approved way of making a living.

(Ashton) They used to be, way back in the day, but they no longer are, and as far as I have heard, it is no longer a requirement to be so.
(stillajwelder) All VOTING members of the Governing Body ARE STILL annointed - YES. However, the non-voting Nethinim are not annointed. That is my understanding.
(No apologies) For some reason this question comes up on the board quite often, the answer is Yes. Why wouldn't they be? The great crowd are a bunch of second-class citizens in WT theology.
So, the voting members are annointed but the non voting members are not annointed per se, but all members used to be annointed way back then.. it that the answer? If so, when it came to be so that they allowed people who were not annointed to join their club, doesn't that smell like a preparation for the fact that in just a few years, there won't be any annointed ones left, the earth will still turn around and they will have to come up with an explanation?

Okay, I'm ashamed to ask, as I REALLY should know the answer to this question, but I don't.. are ALL the members of the governing body 'annointed"?
i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what the spin will be once there are no 'real' anointed on the gb.
and then i thought of this topic for conversation.. when 2010 comes along, and it will, what do you think will be anounced as 'new light'?.

proving its the true religion bec the bible says it will happen (shows me scriptures).
also told it doesnt happen with any other religious group - usually people just quietly leave and make no fuss - further proof that ths is the true religion.. i asked about all the dates where predictions were made, eg 1914, 1975. was told there were some articles loosly talking the 'possibility' of something happening, but the wt never said it definitely would - how could it, these are just ordinary men, not profits.

I felt a lot closer to Jehovah BEFORE I started studying with JW's. I am hoping that quitting my bible study will once again draw me close to Him, the way it used to be.
It are the dates 1914, 1975 and 607 BCE I stumbled on. Once I had stumbled so much that I had fallen down on my face, I looked up and saw 'this generation', along with a lot of poor souls who got disfellowshipped. Let's take the bible serious.. "All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them; this, in fact, is what the Law and the Prophets mean". Personally, I don't see where shunning fits into this picture. Remember.... by their fruits.. etc..

Sorry to hear all that, but do remember that here on JWD all questions are welcome and you won't be dumped for asking too many. I thought about you today, after reading in a different thread that this would be the day you'd ask those questions. Got to admit I was curious about the outcome. I'm in the same boat as you, and they warned me over and over again not to check out sites as this one. As a matter of fact, wouldn't you say that one's curiosity just seems to grow after each warning?
i asked about 144000 and why so many still alive, all over 90, it wasnt feasible. she said some had been replaced. if someone falls away, some are replaced, so may be younger.
Let's see if I can get this right.. If they keep replacing the ones that fall away, then they will NEVER die off. Gosh, and I was getting my survival kit ready for armageddon, now it could be centuries before it happens, darn. *Unpacks survival kit and start eating dried bisquits*
No, serious. Think about it Holly. Apparently the questions you asked 'hit home' in a rather painful way. Otherwise, they would just have answered your questions and set a date for the next study session. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against JW's. In my honest opinion, most of them are very kind people. However, I do hope that you will learn something out of what happened today. In just a little while, you will look back on this day and see it in a different light.

thanks to everyone for keeping the homefires lit.. it was also encouraging to see so many new ones.
i'm happy to report that for the 2004 jwd service year (ends dec 14), we had spectacular growth.
