how strong is a single citizen's voice?
by doogie ini just read this and i thought it was hilarious.
it was from time magazine last week.
the article was has tv gone too far:but though the ptc [parent's television counsel] has a loud voice, just whom they speak for is debatable.

I completely agree with under74. A citizen's voice (and not just a US citizen's voice, but any citizen's voice) is strong or weak, depending on how much money can be associated with it.

and fairchild, just an inquiring mind wanting to know, what's with the empty picture frames.....does that mean something..or was it just something that was done in the
whitepope house???I'm not sure. I went to a catholic school. One time, we were learning things about the vatican, and I clearly remember the teacher telling the story about the empty picture frames. I will relate what I can remember of it, but I think that the teacher might have been reading the tabloids or something. Come to think of it, I first mentioned that I heard the story during the reign of John paul I, but I'm positive now that it was during the reign of the pope who was before him. (can't come up with his name right now).
Mind you, I am just relating something a teacher told us in school. The story might have been a product of her imagination for all I know.
Here goes. Once upon a time they built this place for the pope to live. It was called the vatican. Now, the vatican is huge, and other than it being a home for the pope, it is also a home to many pieces of rather expensive art, including tapistry, paintings and sculptures. The vatican contains several painting galleries. There is one gallery that has always had a number of empty picture frames. Every time a pope died they would put a painting, depicting him, in an empty frame. Nobody knows who came up with the idea of the picture frames, and more important, nobody ever knew who came up with the number of frames. Neither did anyone know if there was a meaning attached to this number or not, but many people have speculated that something huge would happen (the end?) upon filling the last picture frame. Some believe(d) that the amount was divine, that it was God himself who had made sure that there would be a certain amount, fitting His purposes. The teacher told us that there were 3 empty frames left. Then the pope who preceeded John Paul I died (Sorry I forgot his name). I remember getting scared but thinking thank goodness, we still have two empty frames. However, John paul I didn't last long at all. Now I remember getting completely terrified. Only one more picture frame left... waiting for John Paul II.
Of course I'm not as gullable anymore as I used to be, but I was just wondering if anyone had ever heard this story..

Makes me laugh as well. I remember a couple of times at the book study when there was not a man around to read.. one of the women read and was wearing a huge hat with flowers sticking out all over the place. I remember thinking that the hat was more disrespectful than a bare head.

I think he was pickled years ago and they just roll him out when they need him
LMAO. Someone at work told me the exact same thing yesterday. Speaking of the pope.. I remember when John Paul I became pope, the teacher in school told the story about the 'empty picture frames' in the vatican. The story somehow stuck with me and scared the living heck out of me for many years. When John Paul II got sick a few years ago, the empty picture frames haunted me at night, but this time around, I'm more resigned. I think that JWD has helped me to see that there's a lot of BS out there when it comes to religion.
BTW, does anyone know about the 'empty puicture frames', and if so, could anyone tell the story? I was very young when I heard it and I might have forgotten details.

Speaking of questions...
by Confession inas a jw, did anyone ever ask you the following.... "if you discovered that jehovah's witnesses weren't really teaching the truth, would you leave them?".
here again, it's a toughie for most of them.
if they say "no" they appear a mind-numbed fool.

"If you discovered that Jehovah's Witnesses weren't really teaching the Truth, would you leave them?"
It is often tough to make such a discovery, because JW's are led to believe that any and every word said or written against 'the truth' is from satan.
