Double life, anyone??
by dinah inhow many of you lead double lives while growing up (especially those who grew up jw)?
in the last few days, it seems that bothers me about my adolescence.
i had to be one person for my mother, while still trying to be myself.

What made you lose your joy in serving Jehovah?
by JH inwe all started off as happy witnesses, except for those dragged into this religion by force as kids.. in my case, i found that there were way too many meetings.
then seeing the new system being constantly pushed back, and finally when i saw a lack of true love in the congregation.
and when they hinted that probably there wouldn't be any sex and marriage for the resurrected ones.

All the hours of praying and having the feeling that nobody was listening.

P.S. Where have you been hiding out? I've missed you!!!
Um, wouldn't you know it.. about 10 days ago I happened to click on a thread on some board that said "addicting games". Sure enough, they are extremely addicting. I MUST stop playing them and get on with my life. Today is my first game-less day and I have gotten a lot of things done, still need to catch up on many other things..
BTW, welcome to the board Mr. Beaker. Sorry I missed your entrance, I was playing a video game. Mea culpa.

JWs, 7th day Adventist, etc. -- who was first to prohibit tobacco?
by Fatfreek inas an old timer former jw, i remember well the tobacco prohibition.
when i came in during the mid 50's it was looked down upon.
i'd already started smoking in my early teens and didn't actually quit till i was 20. my motive?

I have to say that any religion that claims to be Christian but allows smoking is certainly not Christian. It is the most disgusting habit & breaks at least 2 fundamental scriptural principles - love of neighbour and sanctity of life.
I beg to differ.I live in the state of new York where smoking is strictly prohibited in ALL public places, this includes restaurants and bars. It includes every place which is not one's private home. The love of neighbor rule is not broken here by a person who lives alone, smoking only in his or her home, as this is the only place where smoking is allowed in an enclosed area.
If one considers the sanctify of life principle, then one should not be partial, but eliminate everything which falls under that principle, not just smoking. If the bible says don't eat candy, then you can't point a finger at someone sucking on a lollipop and at the same time allowing the consumption of tootsie rolls. Many things go against the sanctify of life principle. Drunk driving, speeding, over-eating, hard drugs, etc...

Anyone ever seen a ghost?
by Clam inhave you ever seen a "ghost"?
if you did, were you scared, fascinated or straight to denial?.
if you did see one, were you a jw at the time and therefore did you believe it to be an apparition projected by the demons?

I think that sometimes, it takes an "experience" to make someone believe in ghosts. I never, ever believed in ghosts and would poke fun at people who did, until I started working at a so called "haunted" restaurant. I could easily write a book about it.

If it was legal, would you have more then one spouse?
by free2beme inoften what we accept in society, is based on how and where we were raised.
for example, in some countries it is okay to have more then one spouse and arranged marriages are how you marry.
often we take these examples, and others that happen elsewhere, and label them as just wrong.

I prefer to be by myself, don't even long for that one spouse, so no, even if it would be legal, I would not want to have more than 1 spouse.
Quite a while ago I had a relationship and all was great until I found out that he was seeing SEVERAL other women in 3 different states. I actually got to know a couple of them quite well and they were very nice people. When we all found out about each other, we all dumped him, except for 1 person who said we were just saying that he had slept with us because we were jealous of her. He actually tried to hold on to all of us, saying that each one of us gave him something different he needed and he could not find all of these things in one single person.

Like sunspot, I am in Upstate NY. Neither one of us has the means to travel, so here is the idea, we live about 5 to 6 hours north of NYC. I live in the Adirondacks, which, for anyone visiting NY is a must see.. hauntingly beautiful. So why don't you all get together, then come up here, pick me up, we hit the thruway and go visit sunspot. On the way back we hit the casino and we'll all have the time of our lives. Anyone who wants can stay overnight at my place, it is not very large, but nothing that an air mattress and a sleeping bag won't fix.
