  Are We Any Better Than the Witnesses?

  i have just been on this board a short time.

  i have been visiting it for years, however, via the freeminds site since i left the jws in the late 1990s.. but there is so much anger and pain and hatred--especially for people who still want to believe in some kind of god or religion--on this board that it doesn't seem to be so healthy of a place.

  why so much hate?

  No we are not better than the witnesses, the actual people. We are better than the religion and all it stands for and represents.

  most of its members say one thing in their comments at the meetings, preach one thing in service, and pray yet another to their god.

  but on the whole most jw's get drunk, have sex or "fool around" before marriage, get involved in some type of drugs (weed), lie.

  and these practices are done on a regular basis by most jw's at one time or another without ever coming forward.. goes to show motive for being a jw is nothing more than fear.

  I think it's more like 100% everyone on the inside has something they think BS about the religion.

  Very true. I believe most jw's do not leave because they do not hate the religion enough but they tolerate it. The tolerate all the crap they see every single week because of extreme fear.

  so true! Some would confess, get a slap on the wrist if your father was an elder, but if you were a "nobody" in the hall, well then good bye to you!!!

  Goes to show motive for being a jw is nothing more than fear. Fear of losing family and being isolated from a world they have always and only known.

  Could You Live Without God?

  i have said before in past posts - i think a belief in a god is because of two bad reasons.. 1. ignorance (not always deliberate at all) of certain facts.

  the universe and life on earth was not designed.. 2. wanting to believe in a god.. so, to focus on the second, i can see why people would want there to be a god.. you see dead loved ones again, you live forever, you have a purpose set out for you, you feel there's always a being with you through even your most difficult times.

  for those who believe in a god, could you live without one?

  What is the point?

  i am trying to understand how come that only 144 000 get to go to "heaven", as i understand it there are about 5 million jw in the world right now.

  that means that the remaining 5 866 000 are going to be left on earth.

  why would you want to serv a god that will not allow you to enter into his kingdom, to get to spend an eternity with him, i know that's what i want...

  Has being a Jehova's witness totally shattered your faith?

  just because the watchtower society is wrong doesn't mean that there is no god, nor does it mean there is a god.

  it would interesting to now how former members have adjusted thier cosmology, or whether they are now atheists and why.

  i personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.

  The constant "where have you been?", "you missed the last meeting, what's wrong?". Or that those in the cong think they own you. Like they think they have a right to know what you are doing everyday, like they have a right to know where you were if you missed a meeting or service. NO THEY DON'T!!!!

  What do you think about this...?

  perhaps as a jw you experienced events in the ministry or elsewhere that convinced you that jehovah through the angels was directing you to people..or situations.....??.

  like for instance, to the house of a suicidal man or to a person that was praying for someone to help them spiritually.... do you have any opinions about this?

  I don't think I ever believed that, never seemed to make sense, not with billions of people suffering everyday, yet what they don't even know is that what they are relying on is two eggheads coming to their door offering a magazine on elevator saftey.
