my mother has been a jw for the last forty years.
she attends all the meetings and goes out in service every other saturday.
yet, recently she admitted that:.

well, it's time.
monday morning the 17th at 6 am i go in for ye ol' hernia operation.
i asked to be put "out" as i had the option for staying partially awake.
Gumby...glad to hear the doc didn't slip and the wang made it thru too. I had that same damn shrinkage prob when I got neutered.

to all of you who responded with heartfelt condolences when my father passed away in march.
i printed out all of the posts and the personal messages and gave them to my mom who is not computer oriented.
she really appreciated them.
Thanks dannyboy and ozziepost! I appreciate this board and all the folks who post their many differing viewpoints. It must have been very difficult for those who left the borg back before the internet...they were the true pioneers.

Thanks Special K. Towards the end I think it was easier for them to leave than to stay because they didn't have any true friends and they could see thru all of the borg crap. My dad was constantly commenting on the "made-up deficits" at the assemblies...the "growing number of boxes in the back of the hall"...and the constant push push push for more hours....etc. I believe many older ones that began their JW lifes back when "millions now living will never die" was the anthem, can see thru the BS but just hang in there for family or whatever....but they are tired! You can see it in their faces!
avishai...I'll get in touch...maybe by PM cause things have been hectic and I can't seem to locate your number either. I'll share my guerilla-aposto-witnessing efforts with you.

shera...we've gotten more hugs & loving comments than we would have ever gotten if we were still involved with the group. Little Witch...my mom says she wanted out a long time ago because she could feel the unloving attitude and my dad noticed probs but just figured they were "imperfect men". How many times have we heard that? The U.N. and child molestation was finally enough to push him over and really do some investigating that did not involve Watchtower publications. Joyzabel....how does your mom explain the "community" involvement to her elders...Or do they even know? If you're not a mover and shaker in the cong you are easily overlooked. And I wish it was my niece that was shunning her...it's my daughter...her only granddaughter. It makes me sick. Thanks to all for the kind words and it is good to be back aboard and able to post a little.

Thanks maybesbabies and Brummie....isn't it amazing that a group of old men can hold so much power over so many, and in the name of "love". What's even scarier, to me, is the fact that I too at one time thought these people/org held the keys to the "truth" about everything. Everyday I kick myself but as someone else pointed out, it usually takes something real personal to slam us with the real truth. In my case it was my divorce.

PS. Tell your mom Brummie that we are thinking of her and give her our love.

Sassy,Nikita, nilfun & Simon..Thanks! This board more than compensates for the lack of love shown by the witless group. The hardest thing for my mom is my daughters treatment of her (her only granddaughter). She's hardcore and while she did attend my fathers rememberence gathering, she only spent 45 minutes, was stand-offish and her good little hubby who is trying to climb the dubbie ladder did not come at all. Since then my mom and I have noticed that she will occassionally return calls or emails and agree to drop by...ONLY if my mom has some piddly little work for her...dusting, washing dishes etc. The dubbie party line is apparently...You can help your grandmother with little chores but you cannot just go by to visit or fellowship. She lives approx 3 miles away and has stopped by her grandma's once since her grandfathers passing two months ago. She is the reason I will not rest until she's out.

...is promoting a show on their website about religious fanatics.
i realize it's no doubt another cult that is even more bizarre than our favorite group...but who knows, the dubbies might get a mention.
i'm gonna watch just to make sure.

SUNDAY, MAY 16 7:00 p.m. ET | In a Dateline/Court TV exclusive, Keith Morrison reports on a bizarre legal drama in which parents, who belonged to a fanatical religious group, stand trial for the murder of their baby. Had the group?s strange religious beliefs led to this murder? And if so, who was ultimately to blame? -BONEZZ |
And I don't want to confuse anyone with the May 28th cult show that's coming up.

It's been really rough trying to get back to "normal" but it's slowly happening. My dad and mom were 51 year members...walking away a couple of years ago and DA'ing themselves. My little 4'9", slightly hunched-over mom is now shunned by all of them. I'm thinking of putting her picture on a billboard near the KH with the caption, "WHY ARE 6 MILLION PEOPLE TERRIEFIED OF THIS WOMAN?" Anyway, Thanks again and I vow to continue to fight the good fight against the WTBS.
