How much does it cost to be a JW
by osmosis inok the story i get from my jw relatives is that borg "isn't making money off them", but that never sat well with me.
i've always wondered how much money she contributed to the borg.. since i don't have the nerve to ask them, and they probably won't tell me the "truth" if i do, i'm asking you folks.. how much money does the average jw contribute to the cause?
how much do those silly magazines cost anyway?

How much does it COST to be a JW? You must be willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING! You are no longer YOU, you are a JW! If you were raised to be a JW, I can assure you that you never actually became YOU! This is why so many upon leaving, spend the rest of their life BECOMING!
The costs are TOO high!

Parlour Tricks of the Mind
by LittleToe ini offer you a few recent musings, to consider.
i'm not trying to make statements of facts or argue for a set of beliefs, or anything of the sort.
i guess i'd just really like to discuss the subject of the mind without getting entrenched positions on the various subjects surrounding it.

Little Toe----I'm not sure if you are just having fun or what, maybe a little of both. I am fascinated with the unconscious mind. You use the word subconscious and it seems to be a word which is interchangeable with the unconscious. Subconscious is what is in our mind without you being aware of it. Unconscious can be the result of an accident. We are unable to see, hear or otherwise sense what is going on. The subconsious seems to be one level above the unconscious. The subconscious often speaks when we least expect it. The freudian slip comes to mind. The unconscious is on a deeper level. It often plays itself out in our dreams. Either way, our mind never really sleeps. Even those in an unconscious state, such as surgery, will often be affected by what the doctors talked about in the operating room. The subconcious, unconscious mind should be listened to. There is where our true consciousness lies.

Getting Busted w/ Love Letters
by OpenFireGlass in.
love letters were the demise for many of the kids in congregations that i attended growing up..... i know i ended up in the library/back room several times for this (hopless romantic/ sagitarius) even put on public reproof for it.
(though i believe it was my dad's idea to have the elders put me on public reproof so that he could have more control over me).

I saw quite a few kids yanked out of school when their parents found their love letters! That makes me so ANGRY! All three of my kids fell in love sometime between the ages of 12 and 18. I knew it was normal! I would even go so far as to say it was necessary for their development! It is hard to believe that a young one could be made to feel such shame and to be punished for this! Still, I know it happens.

In general, men in the "truth" do not like highly intelligent woman! I think this post shows that some EX-JW men have some maturing to do! The bit about, "if I were single".......made my skin crawl! Ahhh well!

When someone rubs us the wrong way, it is often a projection of what we least like about "OURSELVES"! You may not write your posts in the same manner, yet you agree with most of what this poster writes. I would take the time to analyse what is TRULY bothering me. You may find some surprising answers.

How Do YOU View Ex Elders On This Board?
by minimus indo you think that if a person was an elder that when he comes on these boards, he still thinks and acts like an elder??
?

My ex-husband is an ex-elder. He comes to this forum and we have some of the most interesting conversations based on what we read here. I had no idea this board existed until I came upon it by accident. I asked the ex about it and he said that he reads it occasionally as well. So began our discussions. He isn't in my opinion, Elder material anymore, he is much better then that. I respect him more for the man he is and is becoming! I enjoy reading the experiences of the ones who were in the center of the Org. and got out. They have a greater insight into the workings and it really does take humility and strength to remove yourself from it!

If the society says jump...................you say
by wannaexit inwell the c.o was visiting the congregation a few weeks ago and he made an interesting comment.. he said that years ago when the society said "jump" the brothers would respond "how high?.
now when the society says "jump" the brothers ask "why"?.
this tells me that the walls of this spiritual paradise are cracking and that many are not willing to put up with all the crap that jw's of the past did.. what do you think?
-
peggy
Kid-A---I don't think the vast majority will jump anymore! There is a new division. We see it in meeting attendence and more subtle ways. There used to be agreement on everything. Ask 10 JW's their opinion on college and you no longer get the same answer. Ask them about blood, blood fractions. I see a shift, movement. It is still slight. None the less, it is movement.
