  A Night in the Life of a Young Jehovah’s Witness

  hey there.

  i'm new to this board, so i thought i'd introduce myself with a story.

  it details the kind of thursday night we all dreaded as a young jw.

  Yes, good summarization of what life is like for a kid at the meetings.

  Then one can also add the countless hours reading magazines, listening to bible story tape cassettes, being grilled with jw doctrinal subjects, pressured to say prayers at meals, forced to go to meetings/service, personal study, plus all the meeting preperation. All this I had to look forward to every summer since school was out and time could fully be spent on "more important" things. Basically I ended up missing out on the joy most kids would have during summer holidays, I was never alowded to do much because it could be bad association or a snare. Most of the fun normal things kids did was considered rubish and foolishness by my family. My biggest thrill of the day was getting the mail, other then that I didnt get out much as I had to spend every waking minute in the service of the watchtower. Doing all this while other children could have normal enjoyable lives, I had to miss out on my childhood for the betterment of a greed hungry corporation. You give your life and when they no longer feel it profitable to keep you they kick you to the curb. Dont know what its like for jw children now but when I was one it was almost intolerable.

  Is the NWT going to paperback?

  is the nwt going to paperback?

  I dont know for sure but I have not heard of it going to paperback, but it is very possible I guess. The new brochures seem real cheaply made now, I was shocked by it as I hadn't seen any new brochures for some time. I cant recall which brochure it was as I couldn't really be bothered to read it, but it seemed cheaply made as it was thin glossy paper. Not like the old ones which were thick paper pages. Maybe times are getting tough for them.

  Very good point I had not thought of before Liberty

  *1914 is rendered useless with the passage of time. The watchtower just ran out of time.*

  I believe this, the longer it goes on the further and further 1914 will drift from memory but maybe thats what they want. I think they did run out of time as I think their glory years are far gone and now its all plateu. Interesting thoughts, thanks.

  Got My Memorial Invitation Today

  i was shopping with my wife and when we got home there was a handbill in the door that invited us to the memorial, 3/24 at 7:00 pm.

  i noticed the handbill was printed in canada.

  my parents went to the assembly this weekend.

  they were telling me about disciplining children... the speaker was saying how all babies are born selfish and demanding for their own needs and not anyone elses.

  the jist of the talk being about discipline, and training children ...ie taking them out for a good beating.. well, i don't know if any of you have ever 'just seen red!

  Good Job Gill!!

  I just seen your post and wanted to thank you for standing up for children.

  I know all too well how children are treated within the org. and how they expect parents to have robotic control over them at meetings and life. Sad to see the point ive brought up many times to ones as to why their is a serious lack of love shown within the organization, only to be further emphasized by an assembly talk. Shows the mindset has not changed one bit within the org. and probably never will.

  Did you "shun" your Disfellowshipped or Disassociated Children as a JW?

  when you were a devout jw or if you are now how did you feel "shunning" you df'd or da'd children?

  how can a loving parent totally cut off their child?

  i don't have any children as of now but i would totally kill me to treat my own flesh and blood as if they did not exist and i just don't know what does a parent tell themselves to justify the shunning?

  I guess your aunt's plan backfired as she move in with her bf. I can never figure out their logic in following through with such unchristian like behavior. I never even cut off disfellowshiped ones, I would always acknowledge and greet them even at the kingdom hall. This is probably one of the reasons I was booted off the watchtower wagon, they dont like one going against their watchtower orders even when the bible clearly shows such behavior is wrong. I would treat the disfellowshiped like a fellow christian and never looked down on them, I could understand that nobody is perfect, we are all weak and sin, and especially if were trying to contrast ourselves with an unrealistic set of standards. I just could not in good conscience do this to someone who we were suposed spend eternity with as brothers and siters even as indoctrinated as I was. I would never carry out such an action against my children and cannot believe that they could sanction such orders without any biblical proofs. Truly a lack of christian love.
