The pronoun "you" is printed in small capitals (i.e., YOU ) to indicate plurality, as are some verbs when plurality may be unclear.

TRANSLITERATIONS: The footnotes also present a rich collection of enlightening transliterations of Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Syriac words. Transliterations are words of another language presented in English, with their individual characters converted into Roman letters. They approximate the actual pronunciation and are generally syllabified and accented. Latin words do not need transliteration and are thus simply syllabified. Also, since original-language manuscripts did not distinguish between capital and lower-case letters, the use of capitals in transliterations follows what is considered to be most helpful to the reader.

This comes from their source information on the NWT's use of capitalized words.

They go to all this bother when other translations don't but yet neglect to capitalize much more important words such as Holy Spirit or God in John 1:1 exposing their extreme biased exegesis to support doctrine instead of correct translation.

i live in a gated community so i always tell the guard to kick them out when i see them.

i also feel sorry for them when i see them because i remember how much i despised doing it.

while it is true that jehovahs witnesses are hated and opposed in all the nations of the earth, this is in fulfillment of what was foretold to be an identifying mark of genuine worshipers of the one living and true god.

It's only part of their "us vs. them" illusion to further alienate members from non members.

Most know very little about them other then maybe their blood doctrine. No one hates them but they may poke fun at them in jokes.

how do you feel when you see jws going door to door?

I feel compassion for them being that they are mislead just as Jesus had pity for ones in similar situations and I pray for them. My hope would be that they would knock on my door and I could have the chance to share the real gospel with them. I also hope that the ones they engage in conversation are not mislead as well.

Anyone else in "limbo?"

i've been out of the organization for about 4 years now, but have been in limbo since i've left.

the more i learn about world religions, the less apt i am to accept anything as truth, since there are so many similarities between so many religions.

i know many cultures have flood myths involving 40-ish days and 8 survivors (the chinese written language has many surprising allusions to biblical stories).

What you are feeling is quite common. It's a side effect of spiritual abuse that we all suffered. It took me a considerable amount of time to digest the whole experience. Eventually you become comfortable and realize that being a Christian isn't about a religion but rather about Christ.

No Church is perfect but it is the support they give that is the key benefit. While Church won't gain you salvation it can gain you a network of true friends who will not judge but rather be glad to help you along in your spiritual journey. Lot of Churches also offer care groups for specific requests such as basic theology, marriage support, bible study, etc. There is also youth groups and support for young people. Real support not just some dry doctrine biased book like the Watchtower offered. Kids have fun together, youth band, movie nights, games, soccor, camping, etc. It's a real source of loving social support for the members. Members get together for fun activities and this can be great when you have lost most of your social contacts due to leaving the JW religion.

Best thing if you haven't already is study some basic Christian theology as it is black and white contrasted with Watchtower prejudiced doctrine. Your eyes will open to what being a Christian really means. Don't be afraid of Church or other Christians as there is no pre-requirements, no hassles, and again they are night and day as to what the Watchtower says about them. No one will care if you wear a dress clothes or blue jeans and sandals. Those are all morally neutral items. No one will be scouting outside your door because you didn't show up on Sunday, change Churches, or if you smoke. Those are personal choices that no one can judge. Plus the worship is completely different from anything you will have ever experienced. Actual live music and many churches have modern contemporary songs of praise. They will actually honor Jesus and you won't be bored to death with long unappliable out of context dogma. And they don't pester you about money like the Watchtower likes to claim. People do things because it comes from their heart not because they are demanded of it and that's when you start to discover the truth and freedom in Christ.

Coming from experience of one who didn't reach out for support after my leaving the religion and then drifted from agnosticism to atheism and then to Christ. After all I've researched through the years Christ alone is what will bring you true joy.

I asked Ray Franz this very question close to 10 years ago. Ray's response was that while he was not a mind reader the people of the governing body generally believed what they were doing was right.

To me that was a logical answer as they most likely accept what they put forth and when fallacies arrise they merely intrinsically reconcile it. They have everything invested and as others have said are probably captives to their own concept.

I agree I should have been more upfront as to the source of the article but I did state it was an argument that was not mine. My main concern was it would then become an argument against the author rather then the topic. It was a mistake on my part and I've obviously loaded up the cannon and put a big target on my back over it. I apologize I made a mistake on that post even though the information in my opinion is excellent it was not of my work and will be much more mindful in the future about that.

I had orginally wanted to only come to this board to help others who were struggling with their faith and had not intended to get drawn into creationism vs. evolutionism debates. It's not my area of strength or knowledge as I prefer to deal with bible theology. Of course in these arguments the bible holds no weight so it puts me at a large disadvantage and I'm largely underqualified in many of these scientific fields. My post secondary knowledge is non related to many of these studies of science so I am a layman of science. It seems odd that the majority of this board is devoted to attacks against Christianity, would it not be more productive to seek out debate blogs specializing in this? Heck I bet some on here could put up a good debate with many professionals in the field of apologetics. Surely we are just fish in a barrel?

Anyways heres what I got out of the debate. Sam's rebuttal in my opinion was good but not as strong as the case Craig laid out before him. Sam the whole time dodged around the "ought" issue and couldn't come up with a solid answer to it. Both are very intelligent individuals as are people on this board. I would liken the experience of these blogs as trench warfare. Each trying to make some ground but not really moving in either direction. I think the factor for myself is I have faith in God. Knowing that's not a popular stance with some doesn't make it incorrect or errant. To a Christian faith is a central tenant to ones belief.

I think objective morality is easily seen in our societies history as well as the decline of it. If it were as so proposed by evolution why would our socio morals be on a decline? It's without question in my opinion that then if the proposal of objective morality being valid within a naturalistic view then we have faltered and reversed the evolution of these morals. In my opinion the regress of morality is a direct factor of the emerging and largely accepted view of lack of responsibility and not any evolutionary quotient.

It is Dr. Craig's work. He is much better versed on the topic then myself I have no problem in saying that. I ask for a response to it because to me that argument is absolutely compelling. Using a red herring of plagerism to draw away from the argument is not accomplishing the task at hand.
