"new releases" from the 2005 district assembly

i was wondering if anyone has heard about the new releases from the 2005 district assembly?

it will be interesting to look through the "new light".

I havn't seen this new tract or book but has the quallity really went down that drastically, especially this new tract? Doesn't surprise me, I posted earlier about how I felt their quality was going down with their printed material. The brochure paper is so thin now I noticed its almost see through and its made of the glossy paper that most store flyers are made out of. No more hard cover books, which I feel is for two reasons, cost cutting and reduced longevity making old light disapear faster. Are times really getting that tough for them financially that they need to cut back on the quality of their prints?

No Clapping at Wild Statements at DC????!!!!

i just read a post that said the audience was not obediently clapping at the convention when the speakers made wild statements (presumably with the rising nazi voice).

did anyone else notice this.. will others look out for it at their dc and tell us?.

i'm not going.. bwaaaaahhhhhhh.

Yes it is psychologically motivated. Its called loaded questions and re-affirming agreement through the use of numbers. Example (if everyone is clapping then it must be true, how can several thousand people be wrong.) As for loaded questions they serve a purpose, I just think its a treadmill effect, why ask questions that have no intent to be answered by any other answer then what the speaker supplies. But alas the psychology of high pressure groups is a well though out and effective instrument they use with great success.

Would the WTS torture the "apostates" if they could?

do you think the wts would physically torture and even execute "apostates" if we all lived in a context that allowed them to do so?

much as the catholic church did in the middle ages when they had the opportunity to treat their dissenters as they wished.

already the way the gb wants apopstates treated is as vicious as can be, manifests a deeply seated maliciousness and animosity and is calculated to hurt as much as possible under the present day circumstances.

Ive thought about this before and I think not only if they had the power to do so they would, but who knows where their mentality may take them in the future. Will witness raids on apostates soon be new light that somehow puts them on a parallel and coincide with the israelites attacking unfavourable nations, acting as Gods justice deliverers? Who knows what they will come up with but to be taught to love your enemy but yet on the same hand be taught to bitterly hate ones who disagree with thier take of the bible is pure doublespeak. Its too bad the majority dont realize how contradictory that really is.

Do you really want to get over it?

i'm asking if people might take a moment to seriously consider this.

now by asking this question i don't mean to imply anything like "just get over it already" - i don't think it's so simple as that.

but it's occurred to me that the mental freedom is actually not as valuable to some people as other things, and we do know the jw experience does effect other things in one's life like relationships and livelihood, or one's ability in these kinds of life arenas.

Well I was a lifer and I have to agree with Sparkplug, its great to be out and the mental freedom is priceless but it takes time to learn and adjust away from the JW mold we were pushed into. After awhile you slowly mold your own being and its a good feeling.

Help - shunning stories needed

my letter to the editor to the davenport times just came out on june 30, 2005. the spokane spokesman review is interested in doing a story about shunning as a result of reading my letter.

the religion reporter wants to start working on it wednesday.

does anybody want to tell their story of odd things they have been shunned for by jw's.

If you want to read of some experiences of absolute horrifying shunning I suggest reading ISOCF the chapter entitled the "missuse of disfellowshipping." It may give you some ideas as to what you could say. DFing a 91 year old man who gave his entire life to the society and was punted to the curb with total loss of all companions over a suspicion that he may have discussed scriptures with another person. Someone ill and in poor health that never presented any threat to the congregation in any way, who merely discussed some scriptures in private with a friend, in one moment could have a lifetime of loyal service and companions stroked off, with no family to care for his needs. Absolutely sickening and the list goes on. Sure shows how the society cares for ones who give their lives to its service, no better then a large corporation bringing down the axe to save face at any cost. Real turncoats and sleezeball tactics if you ask me.

Apocalypse delayed again

i have not been in contact with jws since around 1988. i initially got out at the age of 15 in 1987, then there was some back-and-forth-crap, i went to some meetings, but then i was thru, in 1988. the only contact after that was one time, in 1989, when my grandmother died (she was a jw), and the service was held at kh.

anyway, the point here is: it was new to me that the wts is in the process of moving away from the 1914-doctrine.

and moving towards a more "liberal" kind of "well,never mind what we said about 1914, we are the last generation and the signs are there"-doctrine, without even trying to define whatever that means.

Believe it or not their are still many JW's that I have talked to that still believe in the old light of the 1914 generation. Not that they are choosing to believe contrary old light but they have no clue or else have forgotten that any change ever took place. I remember the very meeting this new info was presented and it was so briefly and quickly mentioned I can understand why people have not picked up on the fact that any change has taken place. With it being as confusing as it is and such brief mentionings at meetings I don't think the reality of the prophecy alteration has set in. And any who have bought into this obviously have lost the ability to reason outside of a watchtower, if God phrophesied this why would it all of a sudden be readjusted. Can God not figure out his own bible? Why all the changes, is not God infalliable? Pitiful men playing the role of God, sad so sad.

Would You Wear This... Approved WTBTS Attire

my mum used to always tell me i should model myself on the clothes that we see people wearing in the wtbts propoganda.

have you seen the clothes those people wear?

God the thought of dweeby 20 year old handed down 3 piece suits and the JW approved haircut makes me cringe to even think about it. Ahhh No I would not wear any of that kind of attire unless I enjoyed making a fashion statement of geekism. Besides my 4X4 truck would not be a JW approved service wagon because it has a 6" lift kit, and adorns an innapropriate decal of a lady in scantily clothing. Nevermind the ungodly worldly music that plays on my cd player. LOL Oh the life of a dub, could it be anymore exciting, cheap suits, 4 door sedans, and lets not forget thoese jamming kingdom melodies that they love to rock out too on a saturday service day. I'll keep my clothes and they can have theirs.

Funny how sometimes thoese annoying JW terms we use to use come out in our posts once in awhile. Oh well part of our past I guess.

I think people are getting hesitant to share in the oohs and ahhhs that the society tries to sling their way. People are more informed now adays and more critical in their analysis, I don't think it's as easy as it used to be to keep prolonging armageddon while yet trying to keep the alarms ringing that its merely around the corner.

Only thing they can do is institute into public policy that every witness must clap at assemblies or else face a judicial hearing, but dont think that would go over too well. Lets face it the glory years of the society are over and we will never see them experience the levels of growth or enthusiasm that they once generated in people. You cant keep promising to reward the workers with speculations and false dates while yet browbeating them into spiritual submission and robbing their very unique being as they fall into a melting pot of JW'ism.

Pay, Salary etc

i discovered today that my company are paying newbies (trainees) considerably more than me,.

i'm a bit miffed about it to be honest.

i don't think i'm on a bad wage, but it doesn't seem right that.

I just went through a similar situation at work. What I did was I verbally gave my quitting notice to the boss and kinda had a heated argument about why I was quitting. Next thing I knew he took me out for dinner where I proceeded to order a medium rare new york steak and I got offered a $2.50 raise to stay with the company. Not saying this would work but it is better to say something then to not say something and work in an unhappy environment. I had a bit of an advantage becuase their are far and few in between techs in my area with four years of post secondary so I had a bit of leverage on my side. It was easier for them to appease me then to find a replacement since we are so badly understaffed as it is. Its not that im greedy and need a big wage but I went through four years of schooling and like hell am I going to let a company try to downplay thoese credentials and pay me less then someone lacking thoese credentials. Wish you luck anyways.
