Depression and JW's

i don't wish to hijack the chronic fatigue thread so i started this one.

when i was a teen i suffered from severe depression brought on by emotional abuse, sexual abuse and the jw way of handling it.

i couldn't physically get out of bed, didn't know what day it was, had no desire to eat and dropped below 100 lbs.

My depression was brought on by low self esteem. I never fit in with anyone, and was forced to let all my hopes and dreams fall by the wayside because of the stupid JW rules. I was constantly picked on at school for being a JW, and was always picked on and treated like crap by the other JW kids.

Depression runs in our family history. Although I never had the physical or sexual abuse some endured, I had alot of emotional abuse to endure. When I look back at it all it makes me sad to know that right now there's another kid out there who is going through the same things.

I say you should be able to come to the meetings drunk. They should also allow you to carry in adult beverages, so you can make it through the BS and the boredom that is a meeting.

Also they should stop making it sound like it's a good thing to be assigned to clean the toilets at the conventions.

M.E (chronic fatigue)...the jehovahs witness disease

a congregation here in the uk had so many cases of m.e (chronic fatigue) that it was labelled as the jehovahs witness disease.

i must say that in my old cong.

and locally in other congs., there was an abnormally high percentage of people with this problem.why do you think this was the case?????

I realize that ME is very real and is very hard to deal with. Like alot of people brought up though, for the JW's the source is the pressure put on them from the elders and the organization. I suffered from depression for many years while in the organization. The weight that was lifted off of my shoulders after quitting is unbelievable.

It's sad that people within the organization can't see this and help themselves.

I remember when I went all kinds of attention hungry pioneers would play that game. They would give parts at the meeting where they would talk about how they had to battle through it. It was always worth it because serving Jehovah is so important in this time of the end.

Just another made up thing to make themselves look better. I never believed in it. If they have chronic fatigue from knocking on peoples doors then I suggest that they stop doing it.

I have that problem alot. I am a person who tends to worry about things alot. The only times I sleep really well are when I get drunk.

Ok we've left the Org - Now what?

i am no longer a witness.

i've told all my worldly friends and my immediate family - my kids have told their friends.

i haven't been to a meeting in over a year (and have no desire to go to one) - but i'm not dad or dfd.

I didn't get a chance to read everyone's posts, however it is your call on how to raise your kids. Teach them what you think is important about God. Most of all teach them right from wrong, how to be good people, and to believe in themselves. Also stress the importance of thinking for themselves and not just following others because somone says so. You seem like your on the right path, and I wish you the best of luck.

so, i was thinkin, and got hit with a good idea.

everyone whos been here for more than a week has posters that they love, and posters that they loathe.

some make laugh, some make us cry, and some drive us right up the wall.... so to honor that, i think we should have some sort of jwd award session... (should simon approve).
