Did anyone see the South Park episode where the guy went to hell and said "but I was a devout Jehovah's Witness!"
Well, yes and no.
I don't believe that belonging or not belonging to a religious group will save you from hell or send you to hell. John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." The bottom line is, it's your faith in Jesus that saves you, not where you attend, don't attend, or how 'good' you are.
I believe that if someone is truly seeking God they will find him no matter where they live or what religious group they're in . Deut. 4: 29 says "But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. " Salvation is between each individual and God. Every person will stand ALONE before God on judgement day. Your denomination can not be used as your defense. Religion is simply mans way of doing God; your religious choice won't save you. That's why it's important to "be a Berean" and examine what you are taught and not rely on a religious leader who may turn out to be a false teacher.

Godly hair or ungodly hair ??
by caliber ini just recently grew a goatee mainly to balance off my face due to the thin hair on my head.. the style is similar to one of these... this scriptural idea is used to discourage jw's from growing facial hair.. except a mustache .... 1 peter 3:3 whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel.
4 but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of god of great price.
what are your thoughts serious or humorous ???.

An Elder from bethel told us goatee's were "phalic" it represented the female v------
I don't even know how to respond to that. Who actually looks at a man's goatee and sees a v____ ? It's frightening that he's in a position of authority...

My biggest problem with Chicago is that this will cost the US taxpayers $4 billion. At best, they could hope to make $100 million. That doesn't seem worth the risk to me. Atlanta & Calgary both lost money. Why would Chicago be any different? In this economy, who is actually going to buy tickets & travel to Chicago? The US already has economic problems and is severely in debt. We don't need to waste more money on what is essentially a scam on the taxpayers. Look into Obama's best buddy Valerie Jarrett & what companies she is involved in. Then look and see who the companies are that have bids in to build the Olympic Village. Do you think Obama would be flying to Copenhagen if his friend (and possibly he himself) didn't stand to make money off of this?
I admit Vienna hotdogs are the bomb though. It's worth the trip just to get one of those.

I'm sorry but whoever used 1Pet 3:3 to discourage facial hair is an IDIOT. 1 Pet 3:1-4 was directed at WOMEN:
1 Wives , in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4 Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
Using that scripture to discourage goatees makes no sense unless it's a woman that's wanting to grow one. Even then, that would be stretching it a tad.

Welcome! I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to serve as an elder knowing that everything was a lie. I commend you for following your conscience and stepping down. I don't think any of us has an easy time leaving. It can be a very long & bumpy road. But I can tell you now that I am far happier now than I ever was as a JW. I'm glad to hear that you have non-JW family. With their support, I'm sure you will come out of this just fine.

My husband and I attend church so we would take our child with us. However, if he got to a certain age and wanted to go to another church or didn't want to go at all we would respect his decision. We believe that everyone should be able to make their own decisions about spiritual matters. A difference in beliefs would NEVER keep me from having a loving relationship with my child.
