What's wrong with Muslims? They are no worse than Christians. That extremist picture above is no different than those idiot christians that oppose abortion and protest like a bunch of morons.

I fail to see how someone who is concerned about the sanctity of human life (whether it's an anti-abortion protester or an anti-war protester) could be considered an idiot. And unlike the woman in that picture, Christian women have the freedom to choose what to wear and what to protest.

Islam is becoming a problem in Canada because extreme Muslims are trying to pressure the government to allow Sharia law. Sharia law is already allowed in banking. Now they want to apply it to divorce and custody issues. Under sharia law, a woman who cheats on her husband can be stoned to death and a girl as young as nine can me given in marriage.

There was an "honour killing" in the GTA a couple years ago because a 16 yr old girl refused to wear a hijab. There was also a recent case in Kingston where 3 people were arrested under suspicion of "honour killing" in the tragic death of 4 teen girls. I have friends from Islamic countries. They tell me that it is not considered unusual for a father to beat his daughter and threaten to kill her. It's just accepted as a way of life.

We're surrounded by it here in Toronto. The extreme version of Islam seems to be on the rise which is pretty scary. It's beyond strange to walk into the Wal-Mart and see women wearing this:

it feels great all the hurt, guilt, fear and paranoia questioning, doubts, etc etc are finally gone and it tastes and feels good what a relief.

no more pain and sorrow, only jubilation along with a sense of being finally at peace with myself.

it has come to my attention that a much-beloved poster on this forum has been hurt by the insensitivity shown toward her account of how badly she was treated by the wt.. i realize this is a place where are all welcome, and barring any posting guidelines violations, we are free to air our views without fear of any backlash.. however, please keep in mind that most posters here - yours truly being one of them - view the wt in a negative light.

with all the evidence out there pertaining to its deceitfulness, how can anyone view it otherwise?.

i reached out to you, angel eyes, because i sense that you need a friend.

Don't worry. Anyone who was hurt by the JWs can understand where you're coming from. It's hard to have that garbage rubbed in your face. JWs are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites. All their talk of love is nothing but lies. I get sick when I read it too. You're not a bad person for being upset by it. Nothing wrong with calling out BS.

I know it's hard when you feel like you're being attacked... or are being attacked. Trust me: I KNOW. BUT... you know who you are... and what you are. Don't let anyone take that from you. When people are "nasty" it's because (1)they don't know any better (which pretty much covers everyone loyal to the WTBTS), (2) they're hurting in their own way (which pretty much covers everyone loyal to the WTBTS, (3)they think they're being attacked/persecuted (which pretty much covers everyone loyal to the WTBTS), (4) they think they're right (which pretty much covers everyone loyal to the WTBTS, or (5) they're in utter denial as to their own errors and/or shortcomings (which pretty much covers everyone loyal to the WTBTS).

This is SOOO true.

Grace, you're a special person and very important to this community. In fact, you're one of the reasons I'm a Christian today. You were the one who was always showing people love, even when they didn't deserve it. This board would be a sad place without your posts. Please don't let some JW apologist upset you. I know it's hard to hear their drivel but they're really just poor, brainwashed souls who doesn't even know they're lost. They're not worth leaving over.

thinking of the story of the way that jehovah, through samuel and saul, dealt with the amalekites; with the discovery of the criminal gene, could this justify the god of the bibles actions against these nations, when he put out the order to not have compassion for them, and the israelites were ordered to put to death, man as well as woman, child as well as suckling...??

That certainly is a difficult question. I found a website that explains the Christians response to it far better than I could so I quoted it below.

Q uestion: "Why did God command the extermination of the Canaanites, women and children included?"

Answer: In 1 Samuel 15:2-3 , God commanded Saul and the Israelites, “This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'" God ordered similar things when the Israelites were invading the promised land ( Deuteronomy 2:34 ; 3:6 ; 20:16-18 ). Why would God have the Israelites exterminate an entire group of people, women and children included?

This is honestly a very difficult issue. We do not fully understand why God would command such a thing, but at the same time we trust God that He is just – and recognize that we are incapable of fully understanding a sovereign, infinite, and eternal God. As we look at difficult issues such as this one, we have to remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts ( Isaiah 55:9 ; Romans 11:33-36 ). We have to be willing to trust God and have faith in Him even when we do not understand His ways. Unlike us, God knows the future. God knew what the results would be if Israel did not completely eradicate the Amalekites. If Israel did not carry out God’s orders, the Amalekites would come back to “haunt” the Israelites again and again. Saul claimed to have killed everyone but the Amalekite king Agag ( 1 Samuel 15:20 ). Obviously Saul was lying…just a couple of decades later there were enough Amalekites to take David and his men’s families captive ( 1 Samuel 30:1-2 ). After David and his men attacked the Amalekites and rescued their families, 400 Amalekites escaped. If Saul had fulfilled what God had commanded him, this never would have occurred. Several hundred years later, a descendant of Agag, Haman, tried to have the entire Jewish people exterminated (see the book of Esther). So, Saul’s incomplete obedience almost resulted in Israel’s destruction. God knew this would occur, so He ordered the extermination of the Amalekites ahead of time. In regard to the Canaanites, God commanded, “However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. Completely destroy them — the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites — as the LORD your God has commanded you. Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God” ( Deuteronomy 20:16-18 ). The Israelites failed in this mission as well, and exactly what God said would happen occurred ( Judges 2:1-3 ; 1 Kings 11:5 ; 14:24 ; 2 Kings 16:3-4 ). God did not order the extermination of these people to be cruel, but rather to prevent even greater evil from occurring in the future.

P robably the most difficult part of these commands from God is that God ordered the death of children and infants as well. Why would God order the death of innocent children? (1) Children are not innocent ( Psalm 51:5 ; 58:3 ). (2) These children would have likely grown up as adherents to the evil religions and practices of their parents. (3) By ending their lives as children, God enabled them to have entrance into Heaven. We strongly believe that all children who die are accepted into Heaven by the grace and mercy of God ( 2 Samuel 12:22-23 ; Mark 10:14-15 ; Matthew 18:2-4 ).

Again, this answer does not completely deal with all the issues. Our focus should be on trusting God even when we do not understand His ways. We also have to remember that God looks at things from an eternal perspective, and that His ways are higher than our ways. God is just, righteous, holy, loving, merciful, and gracious. How His attributes work together can be a mystery to us – but that does not mean that He is not who the Bible proclaims Him to be. Layin' some heavy stuff on ya'

three days ago i became aware that my daughter was arrested.

again.. here's a little history.

we adopted this child when she was 2 months old.

Jeff, I am so sorry for what you and your wife are going through.

You and your wife did a wonderful & selfless thing by adopting your daughter and then giving a home to her children when she neglected them. I agree with the other posters, her extreme behavior - lying, manipulating, difficulty with accepting rules and authority, promiscuity, poor impulse control, lack of remorse, inability to love, etc - seems to indicate an anti-social personality disorder. That was probably simply something in her DNA and you have little to do with it. There is a good chance that your daughter experienced some neglect during her first 2 months. Studies have shown that neglecting a newborn can cause hormonal imbalances that leave them unable to form social & emotional bonds. The problem can persist even after being adopted into a loving home. That's not your fault.

While being raised a JW isn't the ideal childhood, there is absolutely no reason for the child of loving JW parents to act in the manner that your daughter is. While some JW kids rebel, your daughter's actions are beyond simple teen or post-JW rebellion. The JW religion is not to blame for this. There is nothing wrong with setting rules for your child or teaching them a moral code. ANY decent parent would do the same. Please do not feel guilty for teaching your child those things. I am saddened (but not surprised) that you didn't get the support you needed from your cong.

As much as it pains you, going to jail may end up being the best thing to happen to your daughter. Sometimes, people need to hit absolute rock-bottom to come to their senses. She will be away from the drugs and hopefully will be able to receive some counseling. There is always hope for your daughter. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. No one is beyond the grace of God, no matter how far gone they may seem. Never give up hope. Keep praying for her, even when you're angry, even when it's difficult. I have found that when I'm angry or heart-broken by someone, praying for them actually has a calming effect on me. You would be helping both you and her by doing that.

You and your wife sound like good people. You did everything you could. Focus on that and on your grandchildren. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. God bless you all.

angel eyes, what goes on between you and your husband is no one else's business. There is nothing in the Bible that says that getting pregnant on your honeymoon is wrong. That elder should worry about his own life instead of sticking his nose in yours. Congrats on your wedding.
