topeka, kansas (reuters) -- evolution is going on trial in kansas.. eighty years after a famed courtroom battle in tennessee pitted religious beliefs about the origins of life against the theories of british scientist charles darwin, kansas is holding its own hearings on what school children should be taught about how life on earth began.. the kansas board of education has scheduled six days of courtroom-style hearings to begin thursday in topeka.

Qcmbr. Some of them just don't get it because they do not need to get it. They live fine with their environment and the little mutations that happens in their species never beat out the older one. If every mutation beat out it's parent we would be in a very different situation, day by day. "Recently there was found what was apparently a dwarf species of homo erectus on an Indonesian island that died out only about 14,000 years ago. More species are found every few years." National Geographic. Very good article. Dwarf people awesomeness. Ghost in the shell too cool!!

"They have NEVER lied"
by Robert_V_Frazier inin this post over at carm, http://tinyurl.com/84ntg a jw from australia who goes by the handle "corvus" made a rather audacious claim:[the society] have never lied to, mislead or decieved anyone - they have made mistakes.. .
in response, i listed four lies that the society has made, three of which are easily investigated and proven to be lies.
1) the cover story that beth-sarim was built to house resurrected old testament saints who were coming back in 1925, when in fact, the house was built to get rutherford away from bethel.

sad thing about all this. Plenty of people still say that the org is perfect and can't make mistakes. Leading their members on this line of thinking is dishonest in itself.

Qcmbr give us some facts. Me saying that the new pope is an alien from space is just as valid as your claims. Infact maybe more plausible taking into account all the possible planets in the universe and the fact that the new pope does exist.

I dont really know your stand on this silentWalker but just because it cannot be proven wrong does not give it validity. Take this scenerio for example, "The African God of all the earth and universe Shoonoobi created the earth 2 days ago. He meant for all men to live happily born like babies searching through a brandnew perfect world. However his evil brother Booboobi thought it would be funny to turn his creation into a random blub of what you see today. He implanted memories, dinosaur bones, and all the evidence for the past right when his brother made the creation. All of our past is just a creation by Booboobi. And this is the truth of the world." Now prove that wrong. Can't? Well why the heck isn't Shoonoobi and Booboobi being practiced in schoolgrounds everywhere. We need to spread the word people!

I dunno about that almost atheist. This education would be based on deception. I doubt any ID teacher would say, "But all of this does have the possibilty of not being true". They'll use bold claims like you said before on impressionable children. I'm all for giving kids information and facts, but not loaded claims.

lol garybuss from all the numerous accounts of wive's swaying their abusive husbands im finding that hard to believe. (Really is but since it is from the witnesses Im not having all that much of a hard time thinking that your claim is true).

Evolution is not a way of life, well unless that's your profession. Evolution is much like the theory of gravity. We know it's there but we do not base our whole existence on it being there, it's just something that just affects our lives. It's just another step on having a better understanding on what's around us. This is where You as an individual comes in. The JW institution pretty much dismantle people's individualism. They can't believe in themselves they just go along with the crowd. In the real world that's not the case. Every person is diverse. Nobody's ideas or philosophies are the exact same and I haven't found anything on this planet that suggests otherwise. Experience and our interaction with nature and other's make up who we are. Do not label yourself as an evolutionist or a marxist or a whateverist. That's not all of who you are, it will take endless books to sum up who you are and can be.
Evolution is just a stepping stone for your life, it shouldn?t answer all the questions because like seattle guy says, they just aren?t there. It?s quite egotistical (Not saying you are) to think that you know or have to know all the questions to function. Just understand the best you can so your life can go in a path that fits you and nobody else best. Way different than what most religions teach.
So to not go too far off track from your question. There are plenty of theories from the M theory (which really doesn?t involve evolution but it can explain the start as a theory with limited evidence) to the universe always being here coming in and out in a big crunch. Evolution does not deal with the cause, just what happens after the cause. So I don't think there is much of a consensus between evolutionist about them believing in a beginning or not, evidence hasn't really given us a conclusive answer to that.
sorry for some reason i can not make seperate paragraphs. -

Remember the not-at homes?
by Thegoodgirl inthat obituary post reminded me of those awful weekday mornings knocking on entire neighborhoods of not-at-homes.
i remember one particular neighborhood in florida where it was one big trailer park of "snowbirds" who would move back up north for the summer.
however, being the thorough jws that we were, we would knock on every single door, leaving magazines, etc, even if the awnings were down and it was obvious no one would be livng there for months.

I loved not at homes even when I believed in it. Didn't have to feel guilty about disturbing somebody and giving them information that they dont believe in and then calling them wicked behind their backs. Seeing the reaction on their faces when we just made wild claims and the ignorance of the person at the door just got to me. Broke down crying once.
