I read it about 11 years ago. Like you, I couldn't stop reading it, I would put it down for a half hour then start reading again. After that I couldn't wait for his second book. I read everything exposing the WT I could find. It really helped me OUT.
given that your wts has frequently warned its members to stay away from the internet, and that bad association spoils useful habits, why is it that you persist in posting on this site, which is quite obviously populated by those that are disfelloshipped, disassociated, or, at the very least, spiritually weak?
if you lived near one of the more vocal posters would you willingly be seen by your body of elders having a conversation with them?
or, is it the ease of anonymity that allows you to be such a hypocrite and flaunt the rules of the organisation you pathetically claim to follow?
i have been thinking of doing something i have wanted to for along time, just to see, that is go to a church.
i guess i am a little afraid , or nervous , more than anything, but i feel i ready to venture out there and see what it is about,,,,,,,,,,,lol, i might not stay , i just want to try it.. i just want to give it a chance and right now i have no reason why i shouldnt if i go in with my eyes open.
i dont know what religion to start with,,,,,,,,, i figure this may be a journey on finding what feels right to me, or it could end up i stay home and do my own worship , who knows.. i know there are many christains on this board and i would be interested in hearing why you choose the faith you did, if it is methodist, catholic, baptist, or other mainstream ones.. i am also interested in other forms of religion some have choosen, and why?
If you believe the bible is God's word then you are limited in what church/churches you will want to attend. Many of the churches mentioned here do not accept the bible as God's word.
After leaving the WT org. I attended Baptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, Church of the Brethren, and probably a few that I do not remember right now. I also attended a Catholic church with my neighbor. My neighbor was not happy that I brought a bible and suggested I leave it in the car. Catholics for the most part are ignorant of the scriptures.
I believe the Baptists were the ones who held much stronger to the scriptures as "the" word of God, but the others were also very strong in bible belief.
I enjoyed the Pentecostals most because they use music more. Their worship services usually have very spirited singing and praising God. I have heard that some Baptist churches have music similar to the Pentecostals but I have not attended one like that yet.
If you are a bible believer it is not so important which church you attend as long as they accept the bible as the word of God, fully. After all as a Christian we give our lives to our Lord Jesus, not to a church. I have also decided not to "join" any church, other than "the church", the family of God.
If any church tried to tell me I must believe their way, other than the basic beliefs in Jesus Christ Himself, I would not go back to that church. As Christians we are free. We owe our allegiance only to our God.
Isn't it true that government borrowing is another tax? It seems to me that the government taxes us as much as they can and then, so they can spend even more, without looking like they are increasing our taxes by some huge amount, they borrow more money to spend, money that must be paid back, with interest.
I think if we knew the total amount we are being taxed, there might be a revolt, then again, maybe not, I think we now have more people on the receiving end of government (taxpayers) handouts than we have contributers. Socialist America.
As someone said at an ex-jw convention several years ago, alcohol is a safety valve for JWs. It helps them cope with all of the problems of being a JW. What will happen to that organization if the JWs get serious about controlling alcohol abuse? I think that could be the worse thing they have ever done to harm the WT.
to all of you i want to say thanks for the many hours ,love, fun, & affection i have experienced on this board...simon & ang a special ((hug)) for letting me be here.
to those who have adopted me as a mum, gran, friend thanks for putting up with me & wonderful comments you have made about me...i cannot keep up with the board anymore.
i am having trouble with my computer -which make me frustrated.
JT: I know what the publications say, and you quoting a sentence here and there does not prove anything.
Isn't that exactly what Jehovah's Witnesses do when they quote the bible? One thing I learned, when I was leaving the WT org., is that, if I read the entire context of the scriptures, used by the JWs, the scriptures sometimes said just the opposite of what the JWs claimed they said.
You have stated, I believe, in earlier posts, that the bible is the authority of JWs, that all teachings must agree with the bible. Do you believe that statement is true? If so, do you read the bible more than you read Watchtower publications?
If you are serious about the bible being the most important authority to you, and all JWs, wouldn't it make sense to read it more than anything else? including WT literature?
I would guess that you would answer, but Jehovah deals with us through the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" Sorry, you cannot use that excuse, you said earlier that everyone must answer to "Jehovah of Armies" and I said, and will repeat, you cannot then, shove the responsibility off onto them, or anyone else. You must stand before God and give the reasons why you believe as you do, why you act on your beliefs as you do, and why you persecute others as you do.
I see the big picture instead of the small details such as BethSarim.
To me this is the reality:
It was a time of depression, my father and mother had several children, my father collected trash and sold it, he did odd jobs and everything he could to care for his family. At the same time he was a company servant, he filled his position to the best of his abilities, he bought two sound cars and went through the town playing the WT records, he put in 150 hours per month as a pioneer, he contributed what money he could to the WT. He and my mother and their children marched around churches with placards. We were at Connersville, Indiana, (you should be familiar with that story) and more.....
While my family was doing all that, the WT Society was building a mansion in San Diego along with some good property where they also built Beth Shan. Rutherford lived in the mansion in luxury, he drank smuggled whiskey from Canada, he smoked fine cigars, he traveled wherever he chose in style, and etc., etc.
And, you say "small details" ....not to me.
So no matter what I say, you will not listen, you will just cover your ears and sing 'la la la la la".
Everyone here has been through a lot, we have had to think very hard before making a decision to leave an organization that we thought was God's only channel to mankind. I don't think any of us took that step easily.
