Just want to mention, the Miranda ruling has only been around less than 40 years. We did not do too bad before that ruling.

Reality check: World less happy about America
by Pathofthorns infacinating results from a global poll relating to public opinions of america in various countries around the world.. http://www.torontostar.com/nasapp/cs/contentserver?pagename=thestar/layout/article_type1&c=article&cid=1035775217105&call_pageid=968332188854&col=968350060724.
a major survey on international opinion released in washington yesterday shows u.s. popularity has plunged across much of the world amid mounting perceptions that the united states is running roughshod over other nations.
the planet's sole superpower commands only tepid affection, just as the u.s. government struggles to win international support for a possible military incursion against iraq as the next stage in its war on terrorism.. in fact, the prospect of a u.s.-led offensive aimed at overthrowing iraqi dictator saddam hussein has become a major irritant between washington and even its closest allies.. .

I would just like to say, I think there are some good posts on this thread. I especially like the reasoning of Freeman, Amazing, JT, and Hawkaw, not necessarily in that order.
I believe, that sometimes, there are misunderstandings when we discuss topics like this one, with people from many different countries. I will speak for myself, but I do know many people who think the same way.
I do not think most Americans look at the UK, Canada, Australia and some others countries as rivals, someone we must compete with for world power or anything else. I have always considered those countries as partners (maybe family) in keeping the world relatively safe and free.
Americans have a different sense of humor (humour) sometimes, and that humor is not always understood by everyone. We will joke about England, or Canada, etc., but I do not think any American would like to be without the above mentioned countries as friends.
As someone always says, just my 2c.

Of course I look for you there Grace. You must try to go to Calif. next year.
Sometime I plan to come to your support group again, it depends a lot on Allens work schedule.
We will try those Cuban cigars next time we are there.

Valis,
My experience with support groups has been different from what you describe:
Most of the XJW "support" groups are nothing but a religious replacement for the WTBTS and JWland
I have been to groups in Columbus, Ohio, Indianapolis, Indiana, St. Jacobs, Ontario, Canada, and our own at Greenville, Ohio.
For the most part people give their own stories, talk about whatever they need, or want, to talk about, and everyone listens. For many people what they really need, is for someone to just listen to them.
I will admit that most of the people at the support groups I have been to, are Christian, but the topics have been about the same as you would find on this board, with a few exceptions. Christianity and the bible are sometimes discussed, but so are JW teachings, and other subjects.
If you are looking for a place where Christian beliefs are banned, then you would probably not want to be at ex-jw support groups. If you do not mind discussing Christianity along with other topics then I think you will enjoy them.

I do not think Dan Hall has a web site yet but the one in CA will be in August 2003 somewhere around San Francisco. You can reach Dan at 916-776-4705.
Sometime before the CA convention, Lori and Keith MacGregor will put the information on their web site.

TR,
Just minutes ago I received that same e-mail. I deleted it. I had received, by regular mail, several years ago the one from Nigeria, so I knew this was a similar scam.
Thanks for posting it, others will probably get it also.

Hi Yizuman,
I have attended the New Ringgold convention every year for the past ten years. I will try to never miss it. There are so many wonderful ex-jws at the conventions, I consider them my family. I also attended the convention in Portland, Or. (just outside Portland) three or four years and Dan Halls convention in California the past two years. I have met a lot of really great people. I highly recommend the conventions
Our group, in this area, sponsored a support group every month for about five years. We have taken a break for the last two years but intend to start having them again soon, probably about every three months. I think the support groups can be very helpful, especially for ones who have just left or are thinking of leaving.
