That is, of course, a tough one, we would like to fight wars without anyone getting hurt, it just cannot be done. As several government officials have said, we would rather fight the terrorists over there, than in the streets of the US.

Someone, on the radio this week, made the comment, that we are in a third world war, one that started September 11, when we were attacked by terrorists, they, by their act, declared war on us, and we cannot stop until we defeat them, wherever they hide. The deaths of our servicemen are tragic, but, unfortunately necessary.

To try to impose the rigidity of no birth control unless you're married would mess up so many women's lives.

Actually they do the same thing to men, it's just done in a different way. Men who choose not to use birth control will be forced to pay about 1/4 of their income for the next 18 years.

In my hurry I used a poor choice of words. I should have said believers as apposed to non-believers, but there are some believers who would change this country into a dictatorship, so I would not include all religions. I do not believe Bush has, or would ever have, any intentions of turning this country into a theocracy.

He's a dangerous idiot...to the point of being criminal.

I have no idea where you would get such an opinion. I have seen only good from the current President, certainly nothing like the last one.

I'm not a supporter of abortion, but believe it's not the government's business to make such rulings.

I don't think I would disagree with you on that, but the socialist/liberal side has changed laws over the years that were in effect for a very long time, I do not necessarily agree with their methods either.

That is unless the fundamentalists care so much about the children that they'll take them and raise them.

I think we have all been doing that for many years now. Irresponsible people keep having babies and by our tax dollars we pay for them, from the cradle to the grave. The answer is to educate and/or force the ones who have the children to pay the cost for them. I do not believe they should have the option to get pregnant, whenever they please, and then use abortion as a birth control method. I think that is murder, however you look at it.

Why should a persons religious beliefs be any less important than an atheists, or any other persons beliefs? I think Christian standards are just as valid as anyone else's.

Now that Christian beliefs are considered taboo in this country, are we so much better off than we were 50 years ago, when Christian standards were the rule?

but that does not mean the laws of the land should be based on that faith.

What's so bad about that? What standards should be used in making laws? None? I think that is where we are heading.

When a person makes moral judgments of others based on their conservative interpretation of the Bible or any other holy book you have a "dangerous and inappropriate candidate".

I can understand why you think that way. I do think, however, that our country has a history of very religious men being in office. Some say that our nation has never been a Christian nation, but I think history shows that it has been, from the start. My point is, that although there were always men of faith and especially Christian men in office, our country has done pretty good over the years.

I personally would prefer, anytime, a Christian in office rather than a Godless man.

To be honest I do not know the man or his qualifications, but I do know something about the man who appointed him. I like George Bush, I trust his decisions and appointments. I remember a former President who appointed some of the most untrustworthy people you could imagine.

Hager's track record of using religious beliefs to guide his
medical decision-making makes him a dangerous and inappropriate candidate to serve as chair of this committee. Critical drug public policy and research must not be held hostage by antiabortion politics.

In today's America, a totally qualified man is labeled a "dangerous and inappropriate candidate" because he is opposed to murdering unborn babies. Disgraceful.

has anyone here had any personal spiritual experiences and is anyone here brave enough to describe/relate any personal spiritual experiences they've had, whether pre-borg, during being borganized or post-borg?

to be more specific, have you ever seen any angels or spirit creatures, been made aware of their presence in any way, interacted with or communicated with them, or had dream/visions...etc?

I may be wrong, and someone will correct me if I am, but, I think there were times in the bible when God did not deal with humans for hundreds of years including the Jews.

The fact that we do not see God dealing with humans for the past couple of thousand years does not seem that strange to me, given the above.

I think you may misunderstand some of my beliefs.

What I am saying is that it is ridiculous to say that Christianity is the sole reason why people behave in a righteous manner.

I do not believe Christianity is the sole reason people can behave righteously. I think however that God is the sole reason. I think He gave us a conscience. I do believe that in a totally Godless world people would act more like the Attila's and the Hun's.

I think there is a great danger to much of Christian belief. Or Jewish. Or Muslim, etc. Any religion taken to be literally and 100% without error is a dangerous belief system. I'm sorry you fail to see this.

I do see that. I do not agree with everything any religion has done in the past or is doing at present. I do think following the Christian scriptures (New Testament) is a good practice for everyone.

Modern science has time and time again shown the Bible to be at odds with the facts. Biology, geology, physics, and at times, psychology all have wounded Scripture to the point where it becomes laughable to hold to a fundamentalistic view of the Bible

That may be true. As I have stated before I have some problems with the Old Testament, I am reading material on that subject now.

I do not think that is so. I am a firm Christian believer and make no apologies for that. There are countless books and endless information on the subject of faith, the bible, Christianity, etc. No one has yet proven, without a doubt, that God does not exist or that Christianity is wrong.

I will apologize again for my posting habits, I am not deliberately trying to avoid anyone, my time is just limited.

It's not my thread, I am just commenting too.

But, ask yourself for a moment, does it really seem logial for an all powerful being to "lock" all universal laws together in a binding fashion so that any change alters the operation of everything?

No, it doesn't, but I think the laws we are speaking of are limited to human life, whether we will go on as a human race or become extinct. I have to believe though, that the Creator used the best way possible to arrive at the salvation of the human race. If that were not so, then He would not be Almighty.

We have the difficulty of discussing this subject from two totally opposing viewpoints, believers and non-believers. I am a believer so I will think in terms of how God will work things out, and, that I will not understand the mind of God no matter how hard I try, so I will accept some things as beyond my understanding.

A non-believer will, of course, demand answers to everything, and say it is ridiculous if it does not meet his/her understanding. I am not saying that is a bad thing, I would like to know all of the answers but again as a believer I will take some things on faith.

It is obvious that the Creator can, and has in the past, changed some of the basic laws as we know them, according to the bible. The bible story of the three Hebrews being thrown into the furnace and coming out without even having their hair singed is an example. Why God would change laws in one case and not others I do not know. I believe in that Creator, so I can only accept that He is doing the best for everyone, in the long run.
