I try not to, just like I try not to say "Brother " and "sister," but soemtimes when I am talking to my mom it just kind of slips out.

Do you still call it "the truth"?
by True North indo you find youself still calling it "the truth" even though you are an ex-jw?
for instance, in one posting i just read, the poster wrote "when i was in the truth..." .
not a big deal, perhaps, but really not such a good thing either as it's a habitual holdover from the program of mental conditioning we were subject to.

"I must have been mistaken"
Knew a pio sister who said "Awesome" could only be used in reference to Jehovah.

Does anything think wts could become dangerous when it falls?

I am also of the opinion that it will not fall. It will fade. So many witnesses are really wanting to be normal and to fit in with society in general. More and more witness kids go to college, play sports, etc. There are less pioneers. Meeting attendance is down. The organization may be as strict as ever but from what I see most rank and file witnesses just float along anymore, most generally because they were born into it..as one elder I knew used to say about ones we termed spiritually weak.. "they go to church at the kingdom hall"

My Kingdom Hall is near extinction!!
by RULES & REGULATIONS inour kingdom hall was started in 1973 with only 3 families totaling 13 people.it grew to 85 members in the early 90's and that's because many were related to these 3 families.with older members dying, the young leaving when they reach 18, 5 divorces and many disfellowshipped, the congregation is down to 26 members.talk about low morale.
where is jehovah's blessing now?

My home cong in SE Oklahoma is much the same. The cong was formed in the mid 80s with about 50 pubs. We never had more than about 60 pubs. A number have moved away ( in fairness the city has been shrinking in population also, down about 16% in the last census), some have quit, a few have died, etc. I heard recently that at one Sunday meeting they had 18 in attendance, but a lot were out sick...

Press charges. If anyone else, for any reason, vandalized your property, you would press charges. Vandalizing done by people thta were once your friends is even more reprehensible than that done by strangers.
It's really not even about getting back at the congregation or exposing JWs. It is about doing what is right. People should not be able to vandalize your property without consequences. Any repercussions these men or the congregation face is not your fault..it is theirs.

So sick and tired of the double standard
by ValiantBoy infor a group that constantly bitches about people needing to accomadate it's beliefs and practices, jw's sure are inflexible and intolerant.
i realize that we all already know that, but is of special irritation to me right now.
my oldest sister, who is faded and now regularly attends a worldly church, is getting married.

Rebel8..that is the point... If she would simply decline politely, none us would be overly upset. We recognize her beliefs and try to respect them. But the fact that she is being so unnecessarily rude and insisting that it be changed is what is making us so mad...and the fact that she is taking it so personally, like it is an intentional affront to her and a deliberate attemt to get her to break her integrity. oy.

It is truly frustrating. The expression "persecution complex" sums it up perfectly. No wonder so many witnesses are so depressed all the time...they always think everyone is out to get them.
My sister even tried to find a rental hall or garden to use, but in the small town where she lives they were all either too expensive or already booked. She even apologized to my mom. My mom said that the apology was insulting and insincere. I said sis was nicer about than I would've been because I don't feel the least bit apologetic.

For a group that constantly bitches about people needing to accomadate it's beliefs and practices, JW's sure are inflexible and intolerant. I realize that we all already know that, but is of special irritation to me right now. My oldest sister, who is faded and now regularly attends a worldly church, is getting married. My inactive mother is pissed because they are getting married in a church and refuses to attend. She's also just being really rude and ugly to those of us who will be attending. She says that my sister is selfish for making it to where my she cannot attend the wedding. SHe says my sister should get married in her apartment so that she can attend.
I was so mad. I have a lot of misgivings and concerns about the marriage, but this is my sister and I'm gonna be their for her no matter what. And I can't believe my mom is not willing to do the same. We are not going to be overly mad if she quietly chooses not to attend, but her raising such a ruckus and being so rude and expecting my sister to cater to her religion (when she won't be tolerant at all) is infuriating.
I finally told her that she may be a witnss, but we are not. We no longer live our lives for that religion. If she chooses to that is up to her, but it no longer dictates our lives to us. She is welcome at the wedding, we want her there. We want her to be a part of our lives. BUt if she feels she must choose her religion over us, that is her choice. We will love her and be here for her anyway, but we will not cater to a religious system that we are no longer part of. And if she chooses her religion over us, the resulting alienation is not our fault but the direct result of her decision.

Interesting Obituary
by ValiantBoy init is certainly no my intent to speak badly of htose who have passed, but this guy must have been very interesting to have in the cong, and, no doubt the congregation was proud of the columns he wrote.
but, so much for witnesses remaing neutral on political issues, showing love and tolerance, etc.. and i hope mr hatcher realized that the first president of the wts was ... gasp..a vegetarian.. e-mail this story printer-friendly version.

One certainly cannot assume that just because the funeral was not in the KH that he was in poor standing. My great uncle, who was an elder at the time of his death and who had been baptized for 50 years had his funeral in a funeral chapel rather than the KH
