Ananias And Sapphira, what's the deal? (Leo? Nark?)
by AlmostAtheist inwhat's the deal with the ananias and sapphira story from acts 5?
i understand that they were killed for lying, not for being greedy, but the lie was a fairly petty charge to lose their lives over.
i love that in the story they managed to prepare the husband for burial and bury him before the wife happens to show up.

One sister used to beat the hell out of her kids with this spatual she used to bring. It was so ridiculous that several of the sisters started hiding her spatula.
Another sister used to hit her little boy on top of the head really hard. with the binding side of her publications. Then she'd take him out and beat him. I remeber once the bookstudy conductor during the middle of the bookstudy sending another sister to tell her that was enough.

Are the magazines losing their appeal?
by truthseeker indo you think the mags are losing their appeal at the doors these days?.
i mean, if you have the internet and wanted to learn about a particular beetle, recipe or how to cook rice, you could look it up on the web right?.
if you wanted to learn about brightly colored birds and fish, you could go to google.com.

I enjoyed the magazine sometimes..but calling them "news magazines" always made me want to hurl.
Today I was watching the 700Club while waiting at the doctor's office. It reminded me so much of a televised form of the Awake! --Quasi -news for uneducated zealots who are looking for someone to form their opinions for them

Refusing magazines/books from JW relatives
by JustTickledPink inrecently my mother dropped in on us and in front of other people, very nicely handed me some trinkets aka dust collectors for my house and some wts magazines.
the way she handed everything to me at once i just held out my hands and took it all.. i threw the magazines away immediately, i consider them trash and don't even want them around... but then decided exactly what i was going to do.
i am going to buy a yard sale cross or virgin mary statue and give it to my mom.. i specifically told her i don't want any publications and she slipped them in anyways.... so, on that note, she hates any religious icons, i am going to give her something that she doesn't want.

True enough..and my mom and I have the sort of relationship where we can be blunt without hurt feelings. Not everyone is that lucky.

I always hated this story. Sure they shouldn't have lied...but killing them is a bit excessive. I mean, honestly, it sounds like the congegation was a bif ole commune anyway. No wonder they didn't want to share.

Wow, I am surprised that you guys criticize Tickled. We're not talking about this happening once, it's something that's been discussed. She's not being rude as much as she's trying to get her mom to see what it feels like.

I was a victim of a Baptism Fascist! (were you?)
by slimboyfat inwhen i was baptised it was in the kingdom hall pool; i was only a teenager.
i was baptised by an old elder from a nearby congregation, but next to the pool stood the baptism fascist .
people in the congregation said my baptism was not valid because of my little toe.

I refuse literature. I just tell them I don't want it and won't read it. If they press, I ask if she'd like pamphlets from the UCC or the latest edition of the Gaily Oklahoman. When she says no, I say alighty then. And the point is made.
Of course, I do occasionally ask for literature when I want to research something.
