My best friend and I did the exact same thing. She would put her finger right next to the doorbell and we would both say "ding dong" with our mouths. Once someone came to the door because they were on their way out. We startled her and she startled us. We told her that we were sorry that we caught her on the way out and here is this free tract and we will call again at a better time. Then we giggled all the way to the next door.

No one's home?
by imnottheonlyone! ini was just remembering back to when i was around 13 years old or so.
my friend, who was 15, and i were both pretty sick and tired of field service.
we tried to work together as much as possible and one summer we worked almost exclusively alone as door-to-door partners.

1975 and all that
by helios ini well recall the husband of my sister-law telling us the most earth shattering news.
this was around 1973 and 1975 fever was starting to take over many individuals.
with breathless excitement he told us the follow story.

I was rather young in 75, but my mom says that some JW sold their homes and bought mobile homes. Some bought big expensive homes thinking "A" would come soon and they wouldn't have to pay for it. Some people put off having children and are now old and childless.
I remember in 1986 when, I think it was President Bush Sr., shouted something about Peace and Security. Everyone was buzzing. I was in high school and I remember thinking that I was glad the new system would come before I got married and had children because I wanted the pain free childbirth that only the new system could provide. Welllllll, I've gone through childbirth 4 times now and I should have waited!!(OUCH!) -

A few months back when someone in our cong. was 'read off', it went like this: An elder was doing a part and at the end he said Bro. "SO and SO" has an annoucement, the next elder walked up on the stage and just said, "Joe Blow" has been disfellowshipped! Then he just walked back down to his seat. The previous elder then bounced back up on stage and said "I'd like to invite you friends to stand and sing song number 91." Why did a different elder have to read him off? It just seemed to serve as a way to get everyone's attention. Was that really necessary??

INCUBUS
by sistaintheback ini have been dealing with one for the past few years.
not constantly, but about once every three months.
for those that don't know, an incubus is a demonic presence that only bothers women when they sleep.

OK, so this happened to me again just last night. I tried to tell myself that it was not demonic and to just stop resisting and see what happens. But when I stopped resisting it seemed to really bear down on me even harder and I became so frightened that I just couldn't do it. So, I started fighting it and once I was able to move I screamed out loud. It may be a medical condition, but it feels so real. And it is so scary. You've got to realize that I have been thinking it was demonic for a few years. So, it's not going to be easy to change my thinking. Sometimes when my husband is in a "frisky" mood, I feel a little nervous as if someone might be watching......It kinda hinders my "performance". ((LOL)) Am I crazy or what??

The Old International assemblies
by pratt1 ini remember back in the lat 60's earlier 70's the international conventions.
i thought they were great and we always had dubs from around the world who would stay at our house for the assembly.. .
one of my best memories is about a group of young sisters from the mid wet who had never really known any black people who stayed at my house and stayed in our guest bedroom during the 7 day assembly .. .

I was remembering how much fun assemblies were years ago also. Remember buying food tickets and fruit bags? Some assemblies even served hot meals. Me and my freinds loved going very early to the convention so that we could "work" in the kitchen. Making sandwiches and sneaking food into our mouths when no one was looking. I also remember that they use to turn the lights out during the drama and when the lights came back on half the people were asleep. (sniggle) Oh yeah, and the intermissions use to be 3 hours long!! O JOY!!
Eyeslice, why'd you have to go and make me nostalgic? -

I remember going to one many years ago in Houston, Texas in 1972. It was in the Astro Dome and Astro World was right across the street. We stayed with some witnesses in the area and it was a blast. At intermission we actually walked across to Astro World and rode rides. We got back to the assembly late and the program had already resumed. My parents were with us. They were younger then and they rode the rides too. They were newly baptized and hadn't been in long enough to know that this was inappropriate. Can you imagine us in our dresses on a rollercoaster? It was the most fun I ever had at an assembly.

Pioneer Takes Baby Out In Zero Wind Chill
by rocketman inthough i haven't been in the mood to discuss jws lately, i had to post this one.
it's a keeper and shows how fanatical they can get:.
on my way to work in our city's downtown area i regularly see a pioneer walking up and down the street, holding up his magazines.

A couple of years ago an older pioneer sister approached me at a meeting and asked me if we could have a standing date every Wednsday to go out in service together. She needed the hours and I didn't get out much because I had 3 small children. I agreed even though I was dreading the whole thing. We did this for about a year. But one Wednsday it was very cold and one of my kids had a cold. So I called her and explained that I couldn't go out today. "Nonsense!" she yelled, "that's no reason for missing service, dress the child in warm clothes and I'll see you at the Hall!!" I wasn't about to drag my sick kid out in the cold to knock on doors! I had my husband to call her back and tell her we weren't going, I was too chicken to call her back myself. (giggle)

were you more 'materialistic' when you were a witness???
by chuckyy init was my experience when a jw that many focussed their lives around...having good holidays...having nice cars (some with private plates)...having perfect houses etc etc.
it all seemed very materialistic to me.
totally the opposite to what was being preached from the platform.

When we first got married we lived in the same apartment complex as an elder in our cong. The apartments were crappy. We didn't have children and neither did they. We only stayed there for 6 months, then we bought our first home. It was a small 1100 sq ft house, three bedrooms, bath and a half. It was an old fixer upper. Nothing special. The elder and his wife came by to see it after we moved in and they told us point blank to our faces that we were materialistic to buy this "big" house when we had no children and no need for two extra bedrooms! I was so offended. But being in the JW mindset, I also felt a little guilty. Several years later we built a new house which was a lot larger, and very 'flashy'--(JW word). And instead of enjoying it, I was embarassed to invite Witnesses over because I knew they would definitely call us materialistic with this house. Now I am older and wiser and I really don't care what they think. Many Witnesses have been in my home and some make negative comments and some don't. We also had a Mercedes and a Volvo wagon. So you know we were often said to not be out in service enough because we were busy working to pay for all of our material things. But I no longer care. We aren't materialistic, we were just made to feel like we were. JW's think the less you have the more spiritual you are because you are not distracted by material things. HOW STUPID!!!

Midget-Sasquatch, I read over that site you advised. That picture was creepy. But I'm beginning to consider other explanations besides the Incubus.
It certainly makes me feel better knowing that it has happened to several people. I would feel alot better if I didn't have the demon theory in my mind. I guess after hearing your responses, it could be sleep paralysis. I may consult with a physician. Has anyone ever been treated by a physician for this problem? Was medication involved? -

I've read this information before. But, I'm still not convinced that it's not something more sinister. Because it usually only happens when I'm alone. When my husband has to work an all night shift or something. It has happened before when he was home, but mostly when he is gone.
Also, I have felt things like: someone sitting on my bed, then opening my eyes and no one is there. Once my entire bed shook as if someone ran into the side of it.
My husband always told me I was dreaming, but then one night it happened to him and he freaked out. Now he believes me, but it has never happened to him again.
