I remember being told that I was being punished in this was by being shunned because I knew better, I knew what was expected of me. Can't the same be said about the criminal? Doesn't he know better in our society, doesn't he know what's expected of him according to the worlds standards? But that's right, JW's don't have worldly stardards, they're much worse!

I just had an interesting experience today. I ran into an old ex-friend that had just been released from prison. He was sentenced for selling pot to the highschool girls he coached for soccer and for sleeping with underage girls. He's in his early 40's. Anyway, he saw me before I could escape and told me that he had been attending JW 'prayer meetings' for a month now and had just met my parents and of course told them that he knew me. He said he attended because the bible discussions were soooo deep. Anyway I was df'd 9 yrs ago, to keep the cong. clean, but now with open arms they welcome someone with a criminal and sexual record. Eveyone knows about it too, because it's been in the local paper. I'm feeling pretty upset because my own parent will talk with this man and accept him, but shun their own daughter. Does this seem right to you? I've been fine with my parents not talking to me, I've resolved it in my head and heart, but after today it brought it all right back in my face. hg

I remember the smurf one. My Mom threw all my smurf stuff away and I was banned from watching them on TV from then on. I watch them now with my kids, catching up on all the episodes I missed! The smurfs haven't jumped outta the TV at us yet! Ha

Do Jehovah's Witnesses Depend on Mental Illness?
by metatron inif you still go to meetings, take a good look around the kingdom hall next time you attend and think about what you are.
likely seeing.. many witnesses will sit in a half-awake mode - despite confronting a risk to life or limb in attending, because of bad weather or the sort.
of neighborhood the hall is located in.

I think it is a pre-requisite of JW's to have some sort of ailment or mental illness. I was always depresses until I left, and constantly sick. The rest of my family that are JW's are on all kinds of meds for depression, ADD, etc...
JW's should have a slogan " All hypochondriacs apply within" -

How did you brutally destroy your WT publications?
by Nosferatu inthe only wt publication i brutally destroyed was a brand new copy of the revalation book.
i was so frustrated with the religion that i ripped the goddam thing into a hundred pieces.
it was a great way to take my anger out on it.. years later when i was dating this one girl, she had a copy of that same stupid book.

Wish I would've kept mine too. could've sold four big boxes worth of stuff on e-bay. I did keep them for awhile, hauling the boxes everytime I moved. One move though, I got sick of taking them with, so I threw them all away in the dumpster out back. Maybe some local JW found them with my name in all of them!

Just got back from the 2004-2005 circuit assembly here are a few thoughts.
by PaNiCAtTaCk inupon arriving i ran into lots of old friends and really enjoyed seeing everyone and visiting.
they dont know that im currently struggling with doubts about the organization and they think that im the same old zealous brother.
i couldnt help but feel a sence of guilt visiting with them about our current number of publishers and how many we had pioneering ect.

The only good part of the assemblies was visiting with friends and catching up with people you haven't seen since the last assembly. Oh yeah, and the dramas, at least there was something to look at, plus the lights were dimmed and you could get away with sleeping better!

I feel so old, all our childhood entertainers are dying. Johnny Carson was a true comedian, he'll be greatly missed. Maybe they'll come out with a DVD set of his best shows or something. That'd be great to see and have a good laugh!

Beatles or Rolling Stones Fan, which were/are you?
by eyeslice inperhaps you have to be one of those who grew up in the 60's to really appreciate this thread, but then my kids love 60's music too.
who did you think were the best, the beatles or the rolling stones?
is there a bit of a psychological angle here too?

heatherg
Depends upon the mood I'm in. Sometimes Beatles, sometimes Stones, and of course Led Zepplin.

We were all bitchy because we were so sexually repressed. You hit the nail on the head!!! JW girls are so much meaner than worldly girls. It's all a game especially at conventions to see which girl could get the most attention from the most guys, and then find the prime catch to marry at 18! Cuz most of us started lookin at 13. If you weren't ultra spiritual and on your way up the ladder we didn't give you the time of day. God we were horrible! Sorry to any guy that I was mean to!
