No I'm not joking. Most of them really beleive that they are doing the right thing. Now I was never informed that I was forced to mantain a certain number of hours each month. But if you went ahead and felt forced than that is your own problem. You are merely citing the most extreme cases, and there were many. Many elders were strict but if you had an ounce of pride in yourself you would never allow someone to force you to do something you didn't want to. But hey that's just me, in your case you were just a puppet.

I stand corrected. You've said it better. There comes a point
in life when you realize that helping others is the thing to
center your existence around. It's like life's default setting-
you've done it all, seen it all - there's no other purpose to
be had!Isn't that what jw's try to do anyways. While they might be misguided that is what they beleive they are doing. And your purpose of life does not match my purpose of life. I don't want to spend the rest of my life helping people realize that my point of view is better than theirs. Everyone has their own purpose in life and if they are happy in doing whatever it is that they are doing than why change that?
Your post also makes some generalizations about certain things that I don't agree with. It mentions elders not been able to hold jobs, same with pioneers. I don't know which congregation you belonged too, but the ones I was at the elders had nice paying jobs, nice houses, cars, etc. Even the president overseers own son was the high school valedictorian and went on to college in a different state to get his degree. I myself went to college and graduated. Almost everyone I knew of about my same age went to college when I was attending the meetings.
Lastly you mention about IT jobs, a section where I do have experience and let me tell you its not as easy as you make it sound. In the past 10 years I haven't been able to find an IT job that will last longer than 2 years. Reason being is companies are outsourcing and downsizing. I got outsourced once out of a nice paying job and anther time the company was downsizing so they elimintated half their IT people.
The IT field is so saturated with people that its hard to get your foot in the door. When I was a system administrator in a big company in downtown Chicago we posted an opening for an IT position. I had to setup a different mail account just for that position because of the hundreds if not thousands of applications the HR department got in a couple of weeks. Funny thing is that after they got the position filled they decided to downsize and half the IT staff went out the door.
Now I actually work overseas as an IT contractor for the same reason, no jobs in my field that actually have decent pay. One thing I'll be doing as soon as I get done with my contract is trying to get into another field.

If you could make and distribute a bumper stick to open minds.......
by whyizit inif you could make and distribute bumper stickers to use as a tool to open the minds of jws or cult members, what would you put on them?.
keep in mind that you would like to open thier minds, yet not offend them.
something that any person could stick on their bumper and the jws would not be able to find reason to label them as opposers or apostates.

Hey there's a carpet place near here owned by JW's. They give a standard 10% or 15% discount to brothers. I've often tossed up whether I should say I'm a JW to get the discount?
I am not DA'ed or DF'ed, just faded.
Would that be lying???
Pope
I own a computer business and give my friends and family a discount. If you say you are my friend to get the discount would you be lying?

Not surprising many of you defending the original poster on what he did. Its common on this forum for someone to come with a stupid idea or something that they did to bring other jw's down and that poster is praised for this like some type of hero. In this case the original poster straight out lied, he even titled his post with "I'm so Naughty..." And saying that the jw's lie too is no excuse, these people beleive they have the truth and in their own view are not lying. Same with all of you when you were in it, you all tought you had the truth. Thinking back did you think you were lying? Only after most of us opened our eyes did we notice things were not right. Its amazing all the bitterness that comes off this forum.

Agree with undercover and pcecilia also. But at least it goes with the stereotype of car salesmen being liers and not trustworthy. Its very rare for someone to go out and buy a car and enjoy the part where they actually have to deal with the salesman. It should not come as anything out of the ordinary that a car salesman lied to sell a car, that's what they usually do all the time anyways.

Wow, you guys make a deal out of nothing. As far as going out preaching, I was never informed that it was required. I almost never went and new many others who didn't go preaching with them. Yes, you get labeled as spiritual weak by them, but who cares what they think. The people who didn't go preaching were the ones who didn't give a damn and were probably just fading away like I did. Damn, stop living your lives by their rules now that your out.

Society goes nuts--yet another "special" campaign for September!
by sir82 inin an earlier post here http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/114651/1.ashx i noted the society's "special campaign" for september, an "awake" magazine dedicated to the topic of evolution vs. creation.

Nothing new or nuts about this. The society have always been doing events like this all the time. And those who participated or the ones who gave up their homes and moved someplace else did it on their own free will. Nobody pointed a gun at them and forced them. Now as crazy as the society ideas sound, the fact is that every single one who gave money or something up in order to work for the society did it because they felt it was the right thing to do. If you really want to blame someone blame the persons who fell for this and gave up their lifes for a lost cause. Now that time is lost and for some of us who have gone thru this ourselves now is the time to keep living our lives the best way we can. A lot of comments here remind me of an old ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend. Now that we finally broken up with the ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend we are griping and moaning about all the wasted time and money we spent on them. When the case should be that we should be out free and looking for new opportunities instead of being miserable for the rest of our lives.
