New Witness

hey everyone i am new here and a new witness, i have a question about earrings....is it wrong or bad for a male to have one?

or is it just personal preference, because i have one, and i am not sure.

i dont where it to the meetings.

Do some WT phrases make you squirm?

for me it's "the doors of the ark are closing.

i can never forget as a child, being forced to see the graphic images in the publications showing families, mothers with little babies clinging to a rock and others drowning as the ark floats away.

fathers shaking their fists at god for destroying their families... it's like some of the little mind control still functioning in there somewhere causing a kneejerk reaction of uneasiness.... are there any others that bug you?.

I wanted to vomit every time I heard someone spew that phrase out in FS.

I've never heard any other group use the phrase so.... it's gotta be dubspeak

Is it appropriate for a women JW to wear..................

never was a jw but studied for years.

is it appropriate for a jw female to wear a nose ring or maybe have a visable tatoo that maybe she cant take off do to $$$$$.

Nose ring. Not acceptable unless you have just started to attend meetings. My son was a part of the congregation all his life......became inactive. He called me up and wanted to come to a meeting. He took out his nose ring, his eyebrow ring, his ear ring, and covered his tatoos. Even wore his suit. The "friends" came running up to him to welcome him back. When they noticed the holes from the rings they all moved away from him with open mouths. After the meeting everyone stayed away from him. He had tears in his eyes when we left the hall and never came back. I did notice a study at the assembly last month with a face full of metal...I mean big time. I didn't see anyone talking to him so Iwent up, shook his hand and said, "Finally someone with more piercings than my son!"
Ear rings. There was a sister that wanted to pioneer. At that time she had three or four piercings on each ear. Elders would not let her pioneer even if she only wore one ring in each ear. The reason.... pioneers were special and the extra holes made her look "worldly".
An older brother wanted to pioneer, but had arms full of tattos. The PO said no. The brother upset said to him, "Would you let me pioneer if I cut my arms off?" Another elder recommended Br. Tatto and he eventually was able to pioneer.

the reason why i say this is because we don't know where our conscious thoughts come from.

what i mean is,,that before a thought comes into our consciousness where was it and why did it come into the conscious?

For a Christian, dates don?t matter. The law of the Christ does.

I could not agree more. People get way too hung up on this crap, and are so busy arguing the different angles that they completely miss the message. Jesus did not give a date for the destruction of Jerusalem, only a sign to look for. We have the signs to look for now and getting hung up on dates will get us no where. When it happens, it'll happen.

Names given to children

what i've noticed, is that there seems to be a lot of recent jw parents who make sure to name their kids by some hebrew/biblical name.

so now you have kids running around w/names like ezekiel, reuben, isaiah, etc.

there were also a few strange names that i'm sure some of these kids would've been made fun of because of it.. have any of you noticed this?

My odlest son's name is James David but it wasn't choasen due to being a biblical name. I was a real heathen then, anyway. And my youngest son's name is Solomon Nathaniel; Solomon after his grandfather, the Anglicized form of Salaman and Nathaniel from the bible. I was worse than a heathen when he was born; a dub through and through.

Spirit

when i read jw writings about 'holy spirit' it's another one of those 'chalk across the blackboard' or 'knife on the dinner plate' sounding things, and i was just wondering...

if the holy spirit is like an 'it' to jws, how do they understand the term "god is spirit" ?

If the Holy Spirit is like an 'it' to jws, how do they understand the term "God is Spirit" ?

The current 'new light' from the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses is the only thing they understand. Therefore, it depends on what previous published position on the Holy Spirit they need to hide or revise and vomit out to their slaves is how it is understood at the present moment which is liable to change and/or flip flop at an unannouced time.
