Wives of doomed unbelieving husbands can vote, buy tobacco, lottery tickets, and Playboy mags if ordered by hubby to submit to his headship. She can also buy holiday gifts, decorate the house, and cook the holiday dinner if ordered. She can't do any of these things unless her husband orders her to, though.

by minimus ini now enjoy telling people about the things jehovah's witnesses can and cannot do.
for instance, witnesses can work in a store that sells lottery tickets and tobacco but they can't own the store themselves.....whole blood is forbidden to be transfused yet blood fractions are acceptable.
donating blood in any form is wrong but accepting blood fractions is a conscience matter.........can you think of other jw oddities????

Since we're talking turkey (ha, ha)...I have a good turkey-dub story.
I briefly worked for 2 dubs in their company, years after I had left the borg but was not DFd. They hired me knowing what my situation was.
So there was a sales contest with one of our vendors....whoever sold a certain large ticket item would receive a turkey. I sold a dozen, qualifying me to receive a dozen turkeys. I was scheduled to be laid off from my job within a week or 2 and was extremely poor, so I was terribly grateful to be receiving these turkeys.
I talked to the vendor and arranged for them to drop the turkeys off on the next Monday. (The business was closed on weekends.) Unbeknownst to me, the dub owner's daughter called the vendor and rescheduled the delivery for Sunday. She met them there and took all my turkeys, then had a giant dub party with them.
I confronted the dub owner (Elder, at the time), telling him I literally was going to have nothing to eat now. He said he was sorry but refused to do anything to rectify it. Not a damn thing. I asked what Jesus would have done, if one of his followers stole 12 turkeys from a poor person. Still nada.

I remember that book pretty well. It was being studied at the book study when I left. I credit that book with helping me to leave.
At the time, it was the kookiest book I had ever read. The dubs went around in service pointing to "worldly" people saying the birds are going to pick their eyes out. Anyone who said no at the door...eyes picked out. Any attractive young guy walking by...eyes picked out. Some of them were claiming the crows were getting bigger to get ready to eat more bodies! That sealed the deal for me. All that because of the Rev book...Proved to me they were not "The Truth" as they claim. I know of at least one other person that left because of that book.

Eduardo, thanks for that info. It clarifies your position. It seems then, that your non-objection is philosophical rather than legal.
Do I care if a charity accepts proceeds from tobacco industry investments? No, not really. The reason I am bothered by the WTS doing so is their constant proclamation that they are morally blameless, and their demand that their members be so as well....all the while doing things secretly that violate their own rules. What bothers me is the hypocrisy, not the source of funds. This situation provides yet another important opportunity to show current and prospective dubs how their "religion" is not what it claims to be. It demands full and unquestioning adherence to their strict rules, to the pain of disfellowshipping and death. Yet it does not apply that same standard to itself.
This double standard is a classic symptom of a cult.

OMG, they didn't even bother to mention that dubs should follow the law about giving tips/bribes/whatever you wanna call it. In the US it is illegal in many instances to give govt officials items/services of value. I guess following the law is just a conscience matter, too.
