  i had to highlight this part because i was dying laughing on the inside when it was given.. the talk first starts by the brother bringing out how clean gods people were in the past and how he gave specific direction to the israelites for disposing if waste.

  then he said that a sister stepped in gum outside on the pavement so we should not chew gum at the kh.eat mints instead!.

  then he brought out an important point about keeping the bathroom sanitized and he says: "and just recently we found blood in the sink in one of the bathrooms.

  I bled all the time at the kh. For hours, often during the whole meeting. Nosebleeds, etc.

  They said Satan caused it so I couldn't pay attention at the Hall. Dumbasses! They were the ones preventing me from getting normal medical care. Satan, my patootie.

  Anyway, my constant bleeding freaked them the hell out, lemme tell ya. Not much creeps dubbies out more than blood.

  They used to call me a vampire, demonized like Rasputin, etc.

  And then HIV was discovered, in my cohorts, in fact. Lemme tell ya again, wtf, they ostracized me even more. (I don't personally have HIV, and they knew it.)

  The purpose of this activity, on the part of the dubs, is to interact with non-jws for the purpose of recruiting them. Interacting them to discuss the topic they came to discuss, calmly and politely, seems ok to me.

  Kinda reminds me of those folks in the mall who step out in front of you in the hallways trying to give you a sample. It wouldn't be wrong of me to stop and chat with them about why I don't like their product. (Use of Illustrations, 2 points)

  Before anyone suggests Golden Age had it right way before science did, this man's exposure was not similar to cooking with aluminum pans.

  i also baked a chocolate cake and chocolate icing, and put little green spice mints on top.

  Seriously? I've made 9600 posts on this forum and many of them are humorous. If having a negative opinion about one holiday makes me Debbie Downer, then guilty I am.

  If you see people kill themselves and others from voluntary self-destructive behavior, and then see your culture being portrayed as that being its main feature, then perhaps you'll have a different POV.

  I don't know of any other cultural festival currently celebrated where pointing out one of its most horrific weaknesses is hilarious and acceptable. hmmm.

  I think Ireland is more than alcohol. It would be nice if most celebrations of this holiday centered around the many positive things about Irish culture. I wonder if anyone would partake then.

  I have issues with the cultural insensitivities (to put it nicely) of this holiday. Just to name one, binge drinking is not funny, respectful, or representative of an entire culture.

  The alcohol industry has co-opted this family holiday for its own purposes, just as it has for Cinco de Mayo.

  The fact that every time this holiday is discussed, binge drinking is a main topic, and it's taken lightly, makes me sick, to be honest. People die from this behavior. And I don't know why more Irish-Americans do not take issue with it. That, to me, is very sad.

  St. Patrick wore blue, and he wasn't Irish...etc. I just wonder if we're celebrating something the alcohol industry cooked up, or what we're doing.

  Interesting. I was forced into the borg as a kid, and I did this same thing on my own. I was forced, at the pain of corporal punishment, to fully participate. Moving my lips was a way to avoid punishment and avoid full participation.

  I think another good step would be to donate fake money in the contribution box.

  The point I would be making Is that even though there was clear evidence and PROOF god was using moses, he rebelled anyways. I would subtly be making the point that the GB today has no proof or evidence. I would make no application to our day.

  IMHO, unless you specifically emphasize that we today must have clear evidence and proof god was using someone we're following, then we shouldn't follow them--then you're making their point, in their way.

  Some of these quotes might be helpful to make this point, in their own words.

  Why not deal with family issues in a normal way, instead of involving a toxic, high control group that you no longer belong to? Just a thought. There's really no right or wrong answer.

  My approach has always been to act normal and let them be the aberration. To help the elders meddle in your personal affairs is to give them power they should not have. IMO.

  as jws we were often told what the theme of the bible is, we were taught that it was the promised seed.. i was recently asked the question.... what is the main "idea" of the bible?.

  for me the whole purpose of the bible is about control.

  it features a god that punishes and rewards.

  There is no theme or main idea:

  • geneology records [OT]
  • battle records [OT]
  • stories about royalty [OT]
  • sci-fi/fantasy [Revelation]
  • religious[gospels & subsequent books, which conflict with each other]
  • pop-science [Genesis]

  Claiming there's a pattern in these things would be like post-apocalyptic archaeologists studying our culture, putting the following works in a 3-ring binder, and claiming it's a cohesive holy book with a single theme:

  • ancestry - dot - com (Mormon scheme to get you to list your ancestors so they can baptize the dead as Mormons--but I digress)
  • military records
  • tabloids about royalty
  • Star Trek
  • 1 publication each--Pat Robertson, wts, Mormon, David Koresh, and Fred Phelps
